Today is a World Savings Day

Wealth begins with the first coin in the piggy bank. What sounds like a banal commonplace is today as true as ever. Traditional forms of savings still are among the most popular in the world - partly due to the recent crisis - but the concept of saving has changed.

World Savings Day, or World Thrift Day as it was formerly called, was established by the WSBI in order to inform people all around the world about the idea of saving their money in a bank rather than keeping it under their mattress. Starting in 1925 it soon became an annual tradition in several countries going along with celebrations and campaigns to encourage savings.

Personal savings accounts to me are one of the most powerful things, not necessarily in saving, solvency, or bankruptcy of the program, but in guaranteeing, the words I used a few minutes ago, a safe and secure retirement for our seniors.

Bill Frist

There is not much impact of recession on Indian economy, mainly because of our strong banking system !
India will not slip in to recession because ...we the Indians ritualistically put some money every now and then in to our bank accounts for our future ! This habit of saving is inculcated in our [Indian] family system down the generations !
Every Indian by nature is a habitual money saver ...saves money for his/her future !
India is the only country, which saw five per cent economic growth even after global recession hit the world !
As the recession has taken toll of almost all economies across the world, India not only survived the meltdown, but also witnessed a growth of five per cent and above, whereas other economies grew by two to two and half per cent !
India survived economy slide down during global recession because of our conservative style of spending and forced savings--- encouraged by our governments' tax saving schemes unlike in the west !
