Sammie..its is not necessary for a coule to do the kanyadaan...any male member for the family can do it alone, regardless of whther he is married or not. Even a younger brother can do if he is of suitable age. But yeah, the mother cannot do it alone.
Really Neha, I get very bugged when she messes up rituals..& the she calls herself 'religious'
oh i didnt know abt the 'younger bro' bit. i thot only older bro ca n do it. see sammie, we all keep discovering more abt our religion everyday :)
earlier, the norm ws that mother cannot do it alone. but now ppl r challenging that. if father can do it alone, why not mother? in fact in ekta kapoor's kanyadaan(not HER kanyadaan-i mean her show of the same title on sony😆), the mother (kirron kher) is estranged from the father (vijeyendra ghatge). she does her daughter's kanyadaan alone. the father attends the wedding but doesnt participate in the ritual.
and yes, i too get irritated when ppl twist religious norms. i dont mind anurag taking over completely as sneha's father, as i hv never liked rish's over-kindness towards sneha. but why bring religion in that and spread false info! it may hurt girls whose mothers hv died..as they may think that in their marriage, their father too cannot do kanyadaan (where the truth is that he CAN do it!)and not everyone has an additional 'back-up' father, like sneha and prem hv. 😆
