With three back to back commercial disappointments behind him - Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, Teri MeriKahaani, Mausam - Shahid Kapoor is finally looking good for a major success under his belt with Prabhu Dheva's R... Rajkumar. While the theatrical promo as well as songs have managed to catch fancy, it is also pretty much certain that Shahid would enjoy his best opening film ever under the tutelage of Prabhu Dheva, who has a cent percent track record in Bollywood so far.
However, the filmmaker stays on to be grounded and doesn't look at the film where he had a responsibility to 'revive' Shahid's career.
"Reviving a career isn't something that anyone can do. It is my work to make a film. I direct and also choreograph. I know I can do it well. However, there are so many other factors that go into making a film which is well received by the audience and is a commercially successful venture too. You don't make a film thinking that it is going to revive someone's career," says PrabhuDheva.
Well, he is being modest here, considering the fact that he brought a turnaround in Salman Khan's career withWanted, delivered Akshay Kumar's biggest grosser till date in the form of Rowdy Rathore and also ensured that newcomer GirishTaurani had a successful start in Bollywood with Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
"Still, the responsibility factor is not due to your past work but the present when a producer and an actor believe in you," says Prabhu Dheva who is working with VikiRajani, Sunil Lulla and ShahidKapoor for the first time ever, "Trust me, if today Shahid wishes to work with someone, there would be ten producers waiting for him. People love him."
However, the fact remains that R... Rajkumar is generating lot of curiosity. Now this is indeed a high for Shahid considering the kind of lows he has suffered during last few years.
"It is common for every actor," defends Prabhu Dheva, "Ups and downs are usual in everyone's career. Some films work and some don't. It is a matter of that one correct film working for all involved."
Hopefully, R... Rajkumar turns out to be that one film for Shahid.
