Chapter 1
Sunrays streamed in through the large bedroom window. A couple was lying on the bed, they were a newly wedded bride and groom jodi. First morning of the girl geet, who was now mrs. geet maan singh khurana. This was quite similar to a dream for her. Everything had happened so quickly that poor geet had not got much time to analyse the situation.
As if everything had taken place just yesterday. She was the only daughter of mohinder and rano handa, the heiress of the huge multi-national handa empire. She was the favorite daughter of her parents and dearest poti of her boyfriend, Darji who was mohinder's father. She was aware that her family loved her a lot, but they had conducted her marriage so quickly, Maan and his father Ashwin Singh Khurana had approached the Handa Industries on the basis of an international 7 star hotel chain contract. Geet had attended the business meeting with her father and darji. Ashwin and Maan had been looking at the girl throughout the presentation, and with a sly smile on his lips, Darji had understood their intentions and during the lunch hour, all plans had spun out of their own accord. Even mohinder and rano were thrilled at the idea and geet was informed the same evening. But she was reluctant to marry a person whom she did not know well enough. But as rano and darji along with her papa had assured her about the khuranas being a perfect in-law family for her, geet was left with no option other than agreeing to the proposal. Then they had got married within the next one month.
Geet was lost in her thoughts when she happened to glance at the huge wall clock. It showed 5:30 a.m in the morning. She tried to get up, but inside the huge white sheet, her dainty waist was being grasped by her muscular husband, maan. She blushed a little at the thought of all that had happened the previous night, and wondered how she had given in to his demands so easily. He had descended upon her delicate little body like a hungry eagle, but his moves had been so tender and slow. He had even taken care that geet won't be least uncomfortable while he entered her with the smooth sliding move, because maan wanted his wife sorry, his 'newly wedded dulhan' to feel heaven in his arms. The night was really beautiful for maan as his passion for loving his blushy wife was fulfilled in the first step of their new relation. He sensed geet wriggling a little and slowly getting up, whispered in her ear in his husky voice "Shona, itna kyon chatpata rai ho? Jaana hi hai to pehle meri morning wish deti jana." Geet's eyes opened wide and hurriedly wrapping the gown, she went to the wardrobe. Taking out all her garments, she went inside the huge washroom. Maan smilingly shook his head, and got up to enter the other side of the washroom. His wife was at the other side beyond the large partition, and he was grinning from ear to ear thinking about her embarrasment when he had whispered in her ears.
Taking a quick bath, geet slipped inside the changing room by the second door and got dressed in a pink saree. She was looking really beautiful in the light rosy color. Geet went downstairs so that the rest of the rituals could be completed within time. She heard some servants saying it was six in the morning, and they had to hurry. Geet climbed down bit fast and reached the hallway, just then one of maan's uncle and aunt came forward. They smiled looking at her and she bent down to take their blessings, but the aunt held her midway and said, "Nai beta, hamare ghar mei betiya pair nai chhuti hai." Uncle seconded his wife's words and said, "Beta, ye lo tumhara shagun." He handed her a large purple velvet box. Geet faltered a little while accepting it and said slowly, "Lekin uncleji, abi tak to rasoi ki puja vi nai hui hai. Phir ye shagun mai kaise lu aap se?" Uncle aunt laughed and said, "Beta, ye saari rasmo mei hum log vishwas nai karte. Waise bi hum logo ki ek ghante mei flight hai. Humei new zealand wapis jana hai." Geet was about to open her mouth, just then the second uncle and aunt came from the garden. They were with her sasurji. Geet went forward and wished them good morning. But even they stopped her from touching their feet and handed her three large yellow and red velvet boxes as her shagun. Just then maan reached downstairs and all the elders fussed over him. After 10 minutes, Vinit uncle said, "Chalo ashwin, abi humei nikalna hoga. Nai to phir bacho ki start-of-term ke liye late ho jayenge." He went to the driveway with ashwin and maan, namita auntie beside the trio. Servants were piling the luggage inside cars. Both uncle-auntie drove away after the driver took the wheel. In the next 10 minutes, Viraj uncle and Mita auntie also followed suit. They had a flight for France. Geet was confused as the relatives had left so quickly, they had not even waited for the first rasoi ritual. Had papaji informed them to leave instantly, or did maan make instant flight arrangements, so that he could have some private moments with her? She decided to ask ashwin about that.
Just then, ashwin came inside. Geet got up from the couch and slowly walking ahead, asked him quietly, "Kya baat hai daddyji? Sare relatives itni jaldi chale gaye, koi problem ho gai?" Ashwin looked at her and smiling slightly, said, "Nai beta. Wo sab ke bacho ki school and college term start hone wali hai, aur unka seat allotment tha to unhe jana pad gaya. Par aap itne pareshan kyu ho? "Kuch nai daddyji, bas wo rasoi puja ke pehle hi chale gae sab log, to muje laga ki kya ho gaya." Geet said confusedly. Ashwin giggled and said, "Dekho beta, hum 18th century mei nai rehte ki family ko saath rakhne ke liye rasoi ki puja-wuja ke rituals ko itna seriously lena pade. Ye sab to over-traditional families mei hota hai. Ultra modern families mei nai. Ab aap in bato ke bare mei sochna band karo. You just make yourself comfortable. Waise aap ne jaldi jaag kar achha hi kiya. Else hum sab ko aap ko jaldi se shagun dene ka chance chala jata." Ashwin concluded and patting his bahu's little head lovingly, went in his study to get some work done.
Maan slyly came to geet and held her by the shoulders. She looked into his dark chocolatey eyes, and stared at him blankly. Leaning forward, maan said, "Jaan, waise tumei kuch time guzaarna hai mere sath to hum log snooker chamber mei jaa sakte hai. Is time par wahan koi bi nai hota. Breakfast ka time sharp 8:00 baje hai. Hamare paas pura dedh ghanta hai."
Geet came out of her trance with his words and said falteringly, "Woh,woh kya hai ki maine mera wardrobe nai lagaya hai, to mai apni dresses ko set karke aati hoon." Maan ran his fingers softly over her cute face and replied, "Mishty uske liye maine pehle hi maria aur suzy ko bataya hai. Humare kamre mei dono isi kaam par lagi hai. Tab tak hum log dusri wing mei chalte hai. He bent lower and geet felt herself up in the air. She saw maan with shock as he carried her in his arms, and tried to get down but maan just held her firmly and marched forward towards the billiard room. He wanted to imprint his love in his wife's heart and life, he wanted geet to drown in his love, to submerge herself in his care completely.
After all, marriage is the name of beautiful relationship that lasts for a lifetime. Does it not?
