Today's entire episode was a reflection of future things to come.
The first scene -tashan between an shahenshah and a future Maharana
Two great personalities one Akbar wanted to unite the Indian subcontinent under him as a single country and another wanted to free India from invaders. Both right in their own ways.
Maharana Pratap was lucky to have his father alive till he was in his 30s.
Compare that with Jalal who became emperor at age of 13. What tremendrous responsibility at a small age. No childhood, no reading-writing, playing with friends, no mischief, asassins waiting to kill you at every step, enemies wanting to kill you. You are the man of your family, you have to provide for them, take care of them, everyone runs to you for any suggestion.
Maharana Pratap mentioned Akbar is badnaam - why i did not understand?
Because he has an harem or married 4 wives till that day, because he was ruthless in his ambition to unite the Indian subcontinent. But also udai singh himself had 20 wives so Pratap should not raise finger at Jalal.
Whatever Akbar's faults he was a good administrator, provided relief to his kingdom's people from constant wars, safegaurded their lives for 49 years when he was king.
Anyways the interaction between them was great two equal contemproraies matching their wits. Loved the way both turned back and saw- as if trying to penetrate the minds depth.
But looks like this tashan between MP and Akbar had raised BP of Bharamal and Mynavati. And poor Jodha had to run and request Jalal not to start fight in marriage hall. Jalal dismissed the fight saying "Thank God you conside me a worthy warrior" but when Jodha became hyper he promised that if MP did not misbehave with his apne, humiliate his religion he will not fight with him. This tashan between both is a sign of future things to come- a lifelong struggle for superiority and freedom
Next is Jodha-Jalal. Jalal knows he is in his in-law place he may be emperor but sasural he is still an ordinary jamaisaa. He cannot let marriage ceremony spoil by showing his ego. So agrees to night fight with MP. But he decides he has to make his wife do a few things to her husband like pressing his hand and head. Though the way Jodha pressed his head i thought his neck will be sprained for life. And then the lep scene - i did not understand why jodha close eyes while she open eyes put lep. Anyways this trip will strengthen bond between Jodha-Jalal
But watching this scenes also gives insight into Jalal- how lonely he is, how hungry he is for some care, attention, how he has missed out on a real mothers love, a sisters care in childhood, how he searches for a mother, sister, grandmom in his milk mothers, wives? how he seraches for a father's protective hand in his minister atagah khan? How he searches for an caring elder brother in adham? But everyone is blind to his needs as an human. They just see him as an mature emperor not a young adult without a childhood. I think jodha fulfilled this need of his. She cares for him like a sister when he gets hurt, scolds him like a mother, gets angry with him like a daughter, protects him like an elder brother(tiger scene).
Adham is a big fool- sharifuddin admits it saying i cannot trust your brain but trust your junoon to become shahenshah. Javeeda is very innocent but gets irritating many times.
The next scene where Jodha, ammi jaan and her family girls are speaking was cute, but pray why jodha told i slept late and all happy that salim will land shortly. He landed but after 7-8 years. I wonder seeing hyper active maykaa of his mom what salim will say?
Dad jalad, Mom bhagin, granny rhondu, paternal granny jogin(hamida) and paternal badi dadi(maham) nagin - kya family hai, no wonder jehangir itna fickle minded nikla aisi family ho toh bichara aur kya kare.
Jalal walked in with his entire entourage of ministers(why has he got so many of them here is a mystery- does he work out of amer? like people work on laptop, mobile). It was great he greated his mom, sasu maa and dadi so nicely. Liked how he said dadisa or dadi jaan??? I wish to see a mother-son bonding scene after next attack. I get feeling that Maham is Jalal mom not Hamida the way they talk with each other.
Jodha was really angry did not want jalal to come to temple with her. An looter of the temple must not go to pray there. But her dadisaa was adamant and Jalal said "I have no problem to go to temple as Mughal when you can come as Hindu to Ajmer Sharif". So Jalal has already started writing thesis of his new relligion???
Finally all land up at the Klai mata temple. Jalal remembers no going inside temple with shoe and leaves them outside. But Jodha does not want him to take sword so he leaves sword and crown also outside. Wonder why his gaurds or ministers did not go inside with him?
Anyways once inside he tries and copies Jodha Begum at prayer. Jodha starts crying and his heart is tensed. She tells him reason "She had promised his head to be kept at feet of devi maa" but wisdh cannot be fulfilled. Jalal looks to be madly in love with her because in front of her 4 maids he walked over and bent his head and touched it in front of devi maa's feet. Wowww i wonder if jodha would have braveness to tell such things to real akbar or whether he would do such things.
But when he said " To keep head at feet of devi maa, you kneed not cut it but just bend it at her feet" i felt sad and awe for Jalal. Awe because Jalal gave up his ego and bend in front of God to fulfill his wifes wish but sad that he got such a wife. Till today Jodha had the moral upper hand but not now onwards.
It is no surprise real akbar loved ruqaiah and salima more and wrote in akbarnama " No man should marry more than once in life except if he has no children". Wonder what made him write such a thing and he even made it a law.
But i am wondering if Jalal has not ordered looting of the temple who else ordered?
Adham, Sharifuddin, Maham or someone else
That is the price an emperor or leader pays. Whoever of his team does error blame is always on his head and he is criticised. Hope Jalal finds out fast and returns the ornaments.
Missing mature Salima and cute Rahim on amer trip.

A compact, comprehensive and perceptive post.

Pratap says Jalal is badnaam because of the jallad image that has been propagated across Rajputana, not because of the wives, of whom Pratap himself seems to have had several. Moti once tells Jodha, very early on, that Jalal might not have known of many of the misdeeds done by his soldiers. She is far more sensible than Jodha, who of course does not believe her. Now that will turn out to be true and I am sure Jalal will have new jewels made for Kali Maa.

What I do not understand is why the Amer royals did not replace the jewels in all this while. Surely they could afford it!

Right u r Aanchal 😊

@myviewprem: Akbar never ever said/declared he loved This begum over that or anything of the sort...as for his preference for Monogamy, AKBAR ALSO DECREED THAT MARRIAGE BETWEEN FIRST COUSINS SHOULD BE BANNED(Ruqaiya and Salima both were his first Cousins )... And He BANNED Child marriage too...( He was married to Ruqaiya when he was 9 yrs old...)
So what do these actions Portray then??😃

He loved Ruqaiah and Salima more not as wives but because they were his cousin sisters see blood bond is always more stronger bond in this world. In this world as per law you can divorce a wife you cannot divorce siblings, children, cousins why? Because those are relations gifted to us by GOD almighty. No matter what differences etc you can never cut off those relations. And in jehangirnama and many historians have said Ruqaiah and Salima were his favourite wife.
Basically in my write up i have made the difference between truth and fiction. Truth was Akabr had no time for love etc majority of marriages were political including Salim's mother but he trusted his cousins Ruqaiah and Salima most. Jodha's importance was as Salim's mother nothing more. We must remember after Jodha Akbar married many times and he had many kids before Jodha's Salim from other wives/cocubbines. If he so loved Jodha pray why have other wives/cocubbines kids? That shows he really had no love of his life. Anyways that's truth point of view. But my majority analysis is with respect to the fiction serial. Only in end i wondered what real akbar would have done?
Yes he banned first cousin marriages because he has written "A normal husband-wife relation not possible between cousins". It shows he married them because he was forced to out of circumstances not out of will. Same for child marriage he may not have wanted to marry so young. I am just wondering why he said that " No man should marry more than once in life except if he has no children" in akbarnama and also made it a law for common man? Also Akbar was a progressive man he did not think like a 16th century person he banned sati, child marriage, allowed widow marriage, women only markets etc
He was encouraged the remarriage of the women which had lost their Husbands. At his time in Hindustan there was a custom of marriage in a small age. Child marriages were harmful for both Females and Males. It also affects their family lives. Therefore, he strongly discouraged the marriages of small children. The custom of sati was also strongly discouraged by Akbar and he encouraged sati's remarriage. He also persuaded Delhi vendors to setup special market place days to weeks for females, which normally had been quiet in house.

Jehangir's marriages majority were political. But his marraige to Manmati Bai was arranged by his mother Jodha not by Akbar as told in both Akbarnama and Jehangirnama and no where it mentions Jehangir was opposed to it. Yes he had wanted to marry Nur Jahan an persian immigrant daughter but had to marry his first cousin. In indian society alliances are arranged by mothers usually not fathers. Except political marriages of Salim like marrying Sahh of persia's daughter, i guess marriages to jodhpur princess jagat gosain and amer princess manmati was a family strenthening affair. Both were his cousin sisters and alliances arranged by his mother rather than father. To be noted again Jagat Gosain- alias Jodha Bai was jehangir's favourite wife and his mallika-e-khas till he married Nur Jahan

Laws made by kings/politicians/rich people is for common man not for themselves.
Jehangir's first law was to ban wine/opium drinking in his kingdom did he adher to it? He died because of excess wine/opium addiction
In mughals it was only auragnzeb who followed his rules majority times to the T like he banned poetry. His daughter Zeb-un-nisa wrote poetry and composed ghazals so he imprisoned her till death. Even Jehangir forgave Khusrau and treated him to get back his eye sight after rebellion but not Auragnzeb
