I may be wrong but somehow I feel it was the replacement which messed up Ganga's character progression. And this has nothing to do with the actresses so no comparisons here.
I feel to make the new Anandi more familiar with the viewers and also with the other characters in the show, CVs shifted focus more onto Sanchi as her being A's nanad will keep A also in focus plus highlighting the negatives of Sanchi would gain sympathy for A.
Also to establish the old ties with the Singhs and also to keep the new Anandi linked to them they introduced this long-drawn out Sanchi falling in love with Jagya and this engagement drama as well, so that both Singhs and Shekhars would be intertwined this way.
And in all this it was the character of Ganga who has suffered. When all the focus and effort has been invested in developing this whole Singhs - Shekhars track Ganga came across just as afterthought for the CVs. Which explains why everything was rushed when it came to her: her education, her training as a nurse, her realization of love for Jagya, the M'lore track, the rape case, the wedding, everything involving Ganga has been rushed. Only when her scenes combine with the Singhs it has been allowed to play out, which was why Sumi was allowed to rain all kinds of curses on her while everyone else just stands around silent 😡.
