No, Jalal doesn't love Jodha. Not as yet. But, he does care about her a lot, too much for his own good. 😛 And he has a definite soft spot for her. He spins circles around Ruqaiyya because however oblivious he might seem, Jalal knows her very well! He knows exactly what she's capable of but he doesn't say much to her because unhe "Ruqaiyya ka haq jamnaa accha lagta hain." Except that , that is changing. Now he begins to get annoyed with her when she talks against Jodha. See the scene where she comes to visit him after he regains consciousness. There is very smooth anger behind Jalal's lazy words. "Itni Badi Gustaakhi ki itni, Chotti sazaa?" . He disapproved of Ruqaiyya slapping Jodha.
Plus it seems like a protective move. He knows how innocent Jodha is which is why he often laughs at her, but also with her. When she taana maros & taunts him & humiliates him.😊 He understands that behind these painful & angry words lies a thoroughly distraught woman.
I agree! He does have a huge soft spot for Jodha and he is most definitely getting annoyed of Ruqaiya. He just puts up with her behavior now whereas he use to enjoy being around before. At the beginning of the show if Ruqaiya said anything to Jalal he would end up believing her words whereas now he just puts them in through one ear and takes them out the other. Had she provoked Jalal the way she did when she was saying "first she hurt you and then she tried to cure you! What was the point of that?" before he would have gotten mad at Jodha but he didn't care for the slightest this time around. I agree with you! He seemed to have said that you gave her a small punishment in a very sarcastic manner. To me he seemed a bit pissed she had done that to Jodha. Furthermore, did you notice how Ruqaiya was complimenting Salima for sending the fruit only to later discover that Jodha had sent them and how Jalal slyly asked how she though about Jodha for sending the fruit? Seemed as if he was trying to in a way provoke her. She liked the thought behind the gift when Salima had sent it, what does she think now that Jodha sent the gift? I cannot seem to put in words what I wanted to say but if I remember I will come back and edit.He covers everything he does for Jodha as a political move/gain or reason & it is, but it is the way he hides his face, looks away when he talks about Jodha & in the affection that sprinkles a little from his eyes, when he feels she isn't looking; that betray that however much he may say she means nothing to him, the truth is much opposite.
Amen! I agree more than 100%! I always thought this as well. He is just hiding behind a veil. We know he isn't doing what he's doing for Jodha because of political gains. He does what he does for Jodha and then if he gains a political advantage that's just an extra. I also feel he doesn't understand himself why he is doing what he is doing so it's just easier for him to make himself believe and to make others believe that whatever he is doing at the present moment is only because he is looking for a political advantage not to in any way help or make Jodha happy.Even now, after she had him standing at Death's Door, he smirkingly flirts with her, taunts her, and titles her as a "baaghin" 😆 That he needs to be aware of at all times. But he doesn't make any move to put her in her place for her huge "Gustaakhi". Interesting. And the only one who understands this & is thus, very scared, is MahamAnga. And isn't it also interesting that , out of all the genuine sazaas he can give her (because she did do a crime of sorts) the first thing that he does is tell her that he will make her make food for him every day at her Amer? Awww 😳.Anyone can see that that is, from no angle, a punishment. It is according to her customs, a saubhagya to make bhojan for her pati-Dev, and , from Jalal's side, a wish that subtly shows how much he wants his Rajputi Begum to care for him. Be around Him. So that is what he will do at Amer. constantly flirt with her, tease her to anger, make her do things for him- Things not meant to humiliate her in anyway, just in Jodha's mind. Why? Because if Jodha is not made to feel that it is a dand, she will never do any of it. This Jalal knows too well. So he cloaks his deep care, husbandly right, and his need for her to show tokens of affection/ care for him, in these inane sazaas. 😳 😆
I think he punishes her in such a way that benefits him and taking care of him is one of many of his tricks to get Jodha to be around him so that she can take care of him. I think he's going to milk this whole "I am hurt" thing to get as much attention as he can. Which he should! He just wants to be around her, talk to her and flirt with her and he gives her only those punishments that make his those wishes come true.
I agree, if he doesn't make it seem like a punishment then Jodha would never do those tasks. God, Jodha thinks everything is meant to humiliate her. I have never seen her say "oh maybe he did this because he cared."
I hope I have made any mistakes. I will come back edit later if I find some. Thanks for commenting.

Also- There is a markedly different way in which he behaves, interacts & best. Acts. With Jodha.
With the rest if his Begum's, he gives them perfunctory respect & usually, ignores them. He doesn't know them & neither does he wish to know them. They're there, to display the shaan of the Shahenshaah-E-Hind. It is an un-spoken agreement between all the haram ladies that they must aggressively compete for his attention. With Salima, he is very very respectful & dignified because she was his foster father's wife who he knows she loves madly, till today. And that Bairam Khan loved her "deewangee ki had tak." He tells her so himself. With Ruqaiyya, he is too used to her. And allows her to get away with most things. With her there is a bond of comfort, friendship & yes, affection. But have you noticed , that when she hugs him, he doesn't hug her back? When she moves towards him he generally doesn't respond to her the same way, or, is passive about it. Nowdays, he has begun to get irritated with her too. With JODHA, the whole scene changes! He can't get enough of her. Holding her hand, flirting with her, teasing her mercilessly, trying to get any sort of rise out of her so that she acknowledges his. Presence. Without a doubt, it angers his Imperial Ego. But he does things for her, that he I am sure, would do for no-one besides Jodha. Personally guarding her tent at night. Sleeping on the sofa for her. Declaring that he will go to Amer for her sister's marriage. Going crazy with helplessness & anger when she vanished from the palace & he had no clue where she was. The look of sadness & loss that would cross his face when Ruqaiyya would taunt him by saying Jodha doesn't want him at all & infact , hates him & asks him why does he bother about her when she is going to go back to Amer forever? Those looks were very telling. His eye on her most times when she is at the Diwaan-E-Khaas. His fond smiles when someone talks about Jodha. His Jodha Begum. There is so much more. That shows how different Jalal is, and treats Jodha from the rest of his wives & harem women.
Exactly feel the same way. The way he is around Jodha is much different than the way he is around everyone else. He seems to let his guard down when he is with her. He knows he is the emperor, but he also knows that she could care less about his position, therefore, he just acts like a husband who she hates and who hates her. He's a lot more lenient with her as well. He lets her get away with a lot of things. They way she talks to Jalal is a great example. If anyone else were to talk to him like that I am sure he would punish them, but because it's Jodha he doesn't say anything. He is always there to protect and save her whether that be by sleeping on the sofa or jumping into the water to save her, he will save her nevertheless. However, he would never sleep on a couch for another one of his wives.
Oh! I have seen the disappointment in his eyes when Ruq tells him that Jodha does not love him. That is what angers him the most. Anything else he is fine with, but when someone says Jodha does not want him, does not respect him and hates him he gets so hurt and mad and then goes straight to Jodha because "he does not care about her and wants to torture her." He only wants to hurt her at that point because she has hurt him so deeply for hating and not caring for him. When Jodha shows some concern for him he's on top of the world and his anger is out the window.
Again thanks for commenting. I really enjoyed reading your comments as well as replying to them! Hope to see you around! 😊
