From many DJ interactions, this will forever be my favorite one. Damon finds it too difficult to open or share his mind with people around him and Jeremy was one of the first person other than Alaric. He was the first person Damon felt sorry for and told him about Anna's death. Also Jeremy was first person who got help from Damon (compulsion of VIcki's death).
