Its almost the end of the year and most of the biggies in bollywood have already released...though ofcourse, the best of bollywood is generally reserved for the last 3-4 months of the year! But given the number of releases this year, I wanted to make a post on which film was your favorite and why.
Here is the list of movies, please feel free to add any that I might have missed!
Chennai Express
YJDH
BMB
Race2
Grand Masti
Aashiqui 2
Special 26
Raanjhnaa
OUATIMD
Satyagraha
Kai Po Che
Himmatwaala (well, you never know😆)
Besharam
Lootera
The Lunchbox
D-day
Madras Cafe
SDR
PPNH
Ghanchakkar
Fukrey
Only putting the names of the big hits / critically acclaimed films of the year! And also those films, which were most scathingly reviewed and trashed by the audience! Just for fun!😆
Forgot to add my favorite...very difficult! I saw a lot of films this year and liked most of them! But I think my favorite as to be Lootera...😳 absolutely breath-taking...the modern day classic! And it doesn't matter that it did not ring the appropriate box-office numbers...it was an excellent film and nothing can take away that fact. Sonakshi and Ranveer were simply outstanding...I really wonder how they are ever going to match up to their own performances in the future!
Also loved Raanjhnaa (for Dhanush❤️) and YJHD (forDeepika😃) and I just saw The Lunchbox last week and though I found it a bit over-rated...it was still a beautiful love story. Kai Po Che was also good...though I like Amit Sadh's peformance the best in the film!

I have not seen a lot of films this year. From the ones I saw:
1.) Kai Po che
2.) Ranjhana
3.) SDR
4.) YJHD-Lootera

I think I had a little too many expectations from Lootera and very few from SDR going by the response of the audience. So I ended up getting surprised by SDR and enjoying it and Lootera somewhere fell short of my expectations. Hence its in the end. Even though Lootera is a much better film than YJHD and SDR, I didn't really enjoy Lootera or get affected by it. Don't know how else to put it.

YJHD was a typical nach gana movie, seemed like a mish mash of a lot of films, core plot seemed to resemble DCH (story of friends and changes their life goes through) and LAK.

SDR had flaws, but it was a new concept, there was a new thought that they tried to put forward and that made the movie interesting for me and the one liners were all interesting and funny. Plus as I said my expectations from the movie were low. Plus I found Sushant so totally adorable that alone is enough to make me rank a little higher. 😳 So yeah SDR at 3rd position for that reason.

Kai Po che and Ranjhana totally lived up to the hype and expectations I had from the films. I cried in both the movies and both the films stayed in my mind for a long time even after I walked out of the theatre. That is I guess the impact of these films on me. I gave Ranjhana second spot only and only bcos I felt Abhay Deol's track could have been a little better handled.

Lootera hands down.
I loved everything about it - the direction, the performances, the cinematography, the plot, the music, the chemistry between Ranveer-Sonakshi..everything. It's actually one of the best bollywood films I've seen in a while.

Ranjhanaa and Aashiqui 2.

I love the songs of A2 and ARK to death. I think that movie came out when my life was going through a drastic change so it was more of a comfort movie.

And Ranjhanaa b/c it had Dhanush and Abhay. Also, the ending was so beautiful and the final sentence Dhanush says stuck with me for days. It was such a selfless thought and so beauitful written. I love how the story is a simple one but some of the best beauty is in simplicity. It just tugged at the heart strings.

Lootera - I thought it was a fantastic film. Sonakshi and Ranveer won me over completely with their spectacular performances.

Lootera. Hands down. Not since Udaan , Dev.D and English Vinglish, have I loved and enjoyed a Hindi film and all it's aspects so thoroughly. This film is beautiful. And I absolutely loved the placement of songs as well as the cinematography. Haven't quite seen such attention to detail in a commercial BW film, ever. Plus, I could relate to it on so many levels and honestly it touched me. Not many hindi films do, I barely watch any these days anyway. But I'll remember Lootera for years to come. Last year, it was English Vinglish for me, this year it's Lootera.

LOOTERA <3 all the freaking way no doubt about it

This movie literally made me into a SonaVeer fan (as a pair and as individuals). Everything about this movie is pure amazingness and the more I watch it (I've seen it 3 times already) the more I love it, the more I discover about Varun and Pakhi and even Motwane as a director and that quality in a bollywood film is very rare. Truly one of the best movies if not THE best romance movie I have seen in bollywood.

2nd fave of the year for me is YJHD just because I personally related to Bunny and Naina so much. I wish I was carefree as Bunny was but I'm more grounded and shy like Naina is. The whole journey of these two charcters individually is what I loved and on top of that my pyaar for my DP <3 and also the AMAZING cinematography and peppy music.

next is Kai Po Che- seeing my boy Sushant make it to the big screen after having been his fan of his TV work for the past 4 years and also the whole dynamic of the bromance and the friendship and also Trivedi's awesome music.

also have to mention BMB as well because Farhan and Divya were pure awesomeness

Tani, same here!
I used to detest Ranveer and never paid attention to Sonakshi prior to Lootera...that film made me fall head over heel in love with both of them!
Gosh...such a breathtaking love story...I saw it repeatedly 3 or 4 times on DVD...rewinding scenes that I loved so much and watching it again and again...
The scene where Pakhi gets an asthama attack in the car and Varun cradles her...
Or the one where he pretends to teach her painting and she guesses that he doens't know a single thing about it...
The one where Pakhi comes to meet Varun at the digging site and begs him to come for the painting class...
Their love making scene...(one of the classiest ever)
The entire second half...
Ranveer and Sonakshi put life into their fictional characters...and the romance in the film is simply on another level...
Dex...even I will remember this film for years to come...it has that sort of impact...this film will be the modern day Lamhe! People will appreciate it in the years to come!

To the above, I completely agree! I had seen Sonakshi and Ranveer in their previous films and while I liked Ranveer as Bittu, Sonakshi's performances never struck me as anything special in all those masala flicks she did.

I saw the trailer and it made me sit up and take notice, especially of Sonakshi. After watching the film, I have come to appreciate both Sonakshi and Ranveer as actors. Oh yeah, and their pairing was just awesome. I want to see them both in another amazing film together.

Also, the direction and cinematography was just flawless! I think for some people the movie felt slow, but I liked the pace of the film. The last part where Varun died was so heartbreaking. I especially loved the placement of the song "Zinda" just before his death when he was tying the leaf on the tree. In the end, when Pakhi looks up at the leaf and breaks out into a beautiful smile tearfully, I felt that was the perfect ending to the movie and it eased the pain of Varun's death for me.
