Producer Kavita Barjatyas detective film Samrat And Co* is all set to release on May 1, 2014.*

Rajshri Productions who are known for family dramas for the first time they are coming up with a different whodunit concept.. Directed by Kaushik Ghatak the film features Rajeev Khandelwal as the main lead.

The film is the first of its kind detective franchisee, wherein the very nuances of crime solving, human nature and the world of standalone private investigators will be presented on the big screen on a pure entertainment platform.

Whodunnit fever grips Bollywood

Looks like B-Town has had its fill of cops and spies, but not of thrillers. Filmmakers here are suddenly intent on exploring a genre that has rarely been explored on the big screen that of detective movies, where the lead protagonist is a private investigator. And with big production houses involved, the genre may finally get its due.

A new approach
Kaushik shares that he's been working on his detective film for the last four years. "My film is A serious detective thriller, not a caricature of a detective. Samrat (Rajeev) is a serious private investigator out to solve a crime and he bears no resemblance with either Sherlock Holmes or Byomkesh."

Talking about the rise in such films, he says, "Well, it's not even a genre here so far. But with so many filmmakers now delving into it, it's only a matter of time before Bollywood would get a new genre. There is great potential in the detective genre and the nature of the film is such that it can lend itself to sequels and so is commercially viable."

He adds, "Most producers are afraid to take risks. However, today there is a breed ready to try out new fare, like my producer Kavita Barjatya and that's why we as filmmakers are being able to bring on screen what so far has only been on paper."

Rajeev Khandelwal finally greets and tweets

After years of avoiding social media platforms, Rajeev Khandelwal has finally signed in to Twitter. He has been updating his whereabouts on the official handle @RK1610IsMe. Very soon he shall join Facebook too.

Rajeev said, "My fans have been consistently requesting that I interact with them on these platforms, however I had consciously stayed away all these years".

So what inspired him to mark his presence on social media, he said, "I have two reasons - in the first place, I wish to honour the request of all my fans and supporters who have been with me since the past 10 years. Secondly, I wish to do my bit for the country by encouraging youth to vote in the forthcoming 2014 Elections".
