She was scared, dead scared. She was scared that those monsters will jump upon her anytime form the darkness surrounding her. She was scared that she may not be able to see Asad again. Asad! She couldn't help but to notice why all of her thought process reaches Asad for the past few hours. Does he become soo important part in her life that she give up thinking about anything else? At that moment she wanted run back to him and be in the safety of his arms. But she was not selfish and never will be. So she decided to pursue what she has come for.
The medical shop was as she was expected, abandoned, destroyed to an extent. There was blood everywhere. Controlling herself she went to the shelves where the supplies are stocked. The sight in front of her was nothing she expected. She stumbled backwards. There was a dead body leaning in the shelf door with no head. She bit her hand hard to suppress the scream that threatened to escape her mouth. She felt puckish at the horrible sight in front of her. Her legs gave away as she slide down to the floor...
Asad was impatient. It's been a long time she had gone to fetch the medicines and there was no news of her.
"It was bad idea Asad... very bad idea..."
He chided himself. He felt the same unknown fear gripping him. And he decided he will go after her. But to his much relief he saw Zoya walking towards him with a bundle of medicines. He felt his heart at light seeing her. He presented her with a heart-warming smile. To his disappointment, she didn't return the smile; instead she was lost in some other world. He slowly took his steps near to her and put his hand on her shoulder.
She jerked at the sudden touch. She looked up only to find a pair of hazel eyes looking at her with concern.
"There... blood... dead body...without head..."
She managed to utter those words as her mind replayed the terrific scene. He understood what she was referring to. Wordlessly, he pulled her into a side hug. She clutched his outfit and kept her head on his chest. His hand found its way on her back as he started rubbing her back to soothe her. After a minute or so, they pulled away from each other. Taking their supplies, they walked back to their hide out.
As expected, Stephani and Luco were standing near the entrance. Asad and Zoya transferred the food and medicine to them. They were about to go inside, when suddenly out of nowhere they heard a whizzing sound. Perplexed they looked back and the next moment Asad was screaming. Everyone turned to look at Asad whose hand was bleeding and there was some sort of round metallic weapon pierced in his skin. Asad looked outside and found a monster. He realized that the monster have heard sounds and that made him to throw his weapon at them.
"Everybody let's move inside. Go fast"
With that everyone went inside without making further noise. Asad was biting his lips hard trying to control the pain.
Back in the room everyone panicked seeing Asad's condition. They were scared, but not as much as Zoya.
Zoya went and knelt in front Asad who was sitting in the floor and crying in pain. Her heart leaped seeing his condition. She extended her hand to take away the weapon which was still pierced in his hand. But Asad was quick as he stopped her attempt.
"Don't. Don't touch it. It is their weapon. It has the capacity to harm any other species who touch it. That's why even my friend can't take it. You will get injured..."
She looked at his hazel eyes which had concern for her even when he was in great pain. She let out a painful smile.
"I don't care about myself Asad. If I die or live, there is no difference. But you must live. You are the hope of all these people. I care about them, I care about you. I want you back...to their lives..."
She gazed into his eyes as she said this. She could see his eyes softening. She felt her heart overflowing with emotions. Gaining strength from her feelings, she held the weapon and with all her might started pulling it out, gentle enough so as to not hurt him further. Blood was flowing from her hand and the excruciating pain touched her cells. She bit her lips hard from screaming out loud and concentrated her full energy on the weapon. And at last it came out. She threw the weapon away and looked at him. He had his head bowed down in pain and blood flowing from his wound. He took bandages from medical supply and started cleaning in his wound. How she can treat a human, she treated him like that. She was relieved to know from Stephani that human medicines will work for them. As she finished bandaged his hand with utmost care, she got up and went to the end of room. Her hands had ugly cuts and they were bleeding. She slowly wiped away the blood. The pain was excruciating and she felt her hand goes numb.
She looked at others who were having the food brought by them. She smiled seeing that sight. Then her gaze fell on Stephani and Asad. Stephani was feeding Asad. It was a sight to behold for her, a sight which she always wanted in her life, a sight which told her of belongingness. How she wished to have a family like that... she was feeling really hungry as she also hadn't had anything in the past 18 hours. But the pain in both of her hands was soo much that she was not able to lift it up to even wipe her tears, forget about eating. She decided not to show her pain to anyone which will make them worried for her. She went and sat in the corner of the room. She felt her eyes drooping due to the tiredness.
She woke up with a jerk from her sleep as she felt someone touch her hand. As she opened her gaze locked with the pair of eyes which she became familiar with for the past 24 hours. She saw him examining her hand. But that's not what made her wonder. His hand was perfectly healed and there was no wound marks. Before she could ask him anything, he took the initiative and cleared her doubts.
"I am ok now. We will get cured fast. Did you forget that I have super natural powers?"
She laughed at her stupidity. But as her hand moved, she felt the same excruciating pain. She left out a moan. His forehead creased in worry.
"Zoya... Even though I have powers, I can't use it for my own purpose. That's why I was failed to take that weapon from my hand. And you, without having any power and by knowing the risk, helped me. You are really good... now, please let me help you..."
He slowly took her small hand in his. He cleaned her wound as instructed by Zoya. Each time she moaned in pain, he slowly blew to the wound making her calm. She felt the same over flowing emotions in her heart as he done that. Once he finished dressing her wound, he went back only to return with a plate of food. He insisted on feeding her while she disagreed with that. In the end she had to give up because of his stubbornness and her helplessness. She felt tears stung in her eyes as he fed her. He couldn't help but to ask,
"Is this tears are the symbols of happiness or sadness?"
She gave him a tired smile. And the next thing she knew was his lips on her cheeks.
He couldn't control himself in front of her. The feelings which were threatening the rules which he has believed in over surfaced for a moment as he felt himself drowning in her. The tears in her eyes stung his heart. As if in a trance, his lips moved in its own accord as he pressed his lips to her cheek. He could feel her tremble under his touch. Reluctantly, he withdrew himself from her and walked back to his friend without sparing a second glance at her while Zoya sat there, still in a daze reliving his lips on her cheeks...
