Is Bollywood Aping America or is it the People?

My nieces and her friends were watching a movie on Netflix and were laughing out real loud. I went into their room to see what's going on and they made me sit and watch the movie for about 15-20 minutes. They were laughing at the actors who were desperately trying to sound like Americans. I am told that the Indian accent from birth is very heavy and at times the actors spoke so fast that they sounded idiotic. Also their thick emphasis on the letter "D" when saying dude or "R" when saying bro was sounding funny.
