Nikhat's suicide attempt....why?

I saw a lot of posts today making fun of Nikhat cutting her wrist over a rejection. Perhaps look at it from another perspective?

Nikhat has faced rejection many times. She's seen many of her proposals turned down before they even turned into engagements. The biggest heartbreak she's gotten till date was of course her last and final engagement breaking with Imraan. Out of her control she fell in love with Imraan. Despite the fact that she has the right to grieve over that rishta breaking, Nikhat for the most part remained strong.

Now many of you may be thinking it's silly of Nikhat to be cutting her wrist; attempting suicide over her rishta with Farhan breaking; a guy who she barely knows yet, has only talked to once. Some are saying Nikhat is being weak for doing this... but perhaps maybe that's not the reason why Nikhat cut her wrist?

Perhaps maybe Nikhat is looking at the bigger picture. It's not just that another rishta has broken for her, this is like the 5th+ time her rishta has broken. In the society that Nikhat lives in, unfortunately with the number of breakups Nikhat has gone through, everyone (well at least the wealthier families) will automatically reject Nikhat marrying their son. If Nikhat wants to get married, she will have to settle for much less (you can use your imagination what I mean by this), that's the unfortunate reality in that society.

Perhaps Nikhat is tired of her family going through the trouble of finding a husband for her. Perhaps Nikhat can't stand her parents fighting over this matter anymore. Perhaps she's done feeling a like a burden for family (that's definitely how some of her family members make her feel like). Perhaps she feels like she's doing her family a favour by trying to kill herself?

What happens every time Haseena breaks off the rishta? Her mom goes running to Haseena ready to fall at her feet and beg. What child wants to see their mother doing that? It's quite obvious this is exactly what Shireen's going to do. Perhaps Nikhat is tired of seeing her family humiliated like this? Tired of seeing her family's wealth being exploited so her marriage happens?

I know everyone has their own opinion, but I feel like Nikhat didn't take this drastic step all because "one rishta broke". I don't see Nikhat as a weak girl. I see a girl who is drained of seeing the same old events repeated so often and has come to a point where she doesn't know what to do other than hurt herself.

Completely agree with you Mannie!

This poor girl has experienced so much emotional turmoil since DAY ONE of the show. Her marriage has been broken, fixed, broken again, fixed again with another and broken again since episode one. She has been taunted, verbally and emotionally been abused, ridiculed for thinking she'd get a 'good rishta' just because her skin color is not fair!

Suicide is never the answer. But I can totally see why she did what she did today, poor soul.

I don't blame Nikhat, nor do I consider her weak.

What I do have a problem with, however, is the romanticization of suicide that Qubool Hai has depicted thus far. Whether it's Nikhat or Humaira... It's over a guy. I understand that people have volatile emotions and a broken heart can really seem like the end of the world. People get depressed and feel like they have nothing to live for. I get it.

However, my issue is not the subject of suicide or depression itself. These ideations are very much real. My problem is with the presentation.

The self-destructive behavior rarely ever comes full circle to the realization that suicide is not the right option. If it does, it's always Now Ayaan loves me too or Now I have a proposal so no need to be depressed. So what exactly stabilizes the will to live? The suicidal problem is only resolved because the relationship/love is revived. Which is pathetic. No one decides that hey life is worth living for the sake of being alive.

So I guess you could say that my problem is not Nikhat, but the depiction of suicide itself.

thanks Tanvi for agreeing with me 🤗

Yes poor soul indeed has been through a lot. She's grown up expected to always remain quiet because that is considered "tehzeeb", it takes a lot of courage to voice your opinions in a society and family like that. For the times Nikhat was able to take a stand and be heard, hats off to her for that. I hope one day Nikhat gains even more courage to become independent and pursue all her dreams.

edit

yes totally agree suicide is never the answer... I hope Qubool Hai shows that message properly cuz there probably are many girls like Nikhat out there and sadly suicide probably crosses their mind too.

I totally agree with you. I dont like the way how Qubool Hai has touched this suicide topic either especially for Humaira. But for Nikhat this time I feel like it wasnt just over a guy but had bigger reasons for the suicide attempt... Like Tanvi said suicide isnt the answer and I hope 4Lions shows that message properly

That would be wonderful if they develop Nikhat's character to be independent like that... I would love to see Nikhat career-oriented before Qubool Hai ends!
