This was definitely the most disturbing part of the entire show to me. I do agree that it must be very painful for Nikhat to be constantly rejected by people and she's always tried to be strong but somehow her parents always end up begging for forgiveness at Haseena bi's feet. After Imraan, she was finally getting over things and trying to move on only to have this happen.

But I also agree with Jazz that QH has glorified suicide in some way. One minute, Nikhat was telling Humeira that she's being stupid for trying to commit suicide and the other we see her doing the same thing? Granted that she's suffered way more, but really? Why don't these women have identities of their own beyond the men they love? Why must their life only revolve around one guy and that's it?

I don't like how this show's supposed to be about a modern woman, who has traditional values instilled in her but still is independent and strong but in reality, we see very rare occasions of that strong, independent girl somewhere. Most of the times, it's a girl who completely depends on someone else. I wish they shown her venting out her frustration into something else, maybe getting work despite her family's wishes for her to get married? Maybe pursuing some other dream that doesn't involve getting married?

Nikhat has always been one of my favourite characters on the show. I hope they show her emerging out as a winner in this.

I don't blame Nikhat, nor do I consider her weak.

What I do have a problem with, however, is the romanticization of suicide that Qubool Hai has depicted thus far. Whether it's Nikhat or Humaira... It's over a guy. I understand that people have volatile emotions and a broken heart can really seem like the end of the world. People get depressed and feel like they have nothing to live for. I get it.

However, my issue is not the subject of suicide or depression itself. These ideations are very much real. My problem is with the presentation.

The self-destructive behavior rarely ever comes full circle to the realization that suicide is not the right option. If it does, it's always Now Ayaan loves me too or Now I have a proposal so no need to be depressed. So what exactly stabilizes the will to live? The suicidal problem is only resolved because the relationship/love is revived. Which is pathetic. No one decides that hey life is worth living for the sake of being alive.

So I guess you could say that my problem is not Nikhat, but the depiction of suicide itself.
