Has India Really attained Independence

Why is India still called as the developing country even after so many years of Independence.. What is it that is holding us back from being the super power? We have the second largest world's population, but still are we Independent? We may say we have total independence.. we have right to speech, right to choose our career, right to own the property etc.. But have we attained the Independence in real sense?

My point of view:

I would say - we have not yet attained the total independence.. Still there are girls in rural areas who are deprived of their education.. We all are aware of the reservation system in India and even after raising the voice, its been only heard by very few.. We have the rights to vote- accept, but do we have the rights to nominate the people who are contesting for the election?? We are not free of the superstitious belief.. Still there are many areas where sati, child marriage, infanticide are being practiced.. Richer are becoming more rich and poorer are moving still below the poverty line.. With all this, Has India attained the Independence in real sense?

Cult practices and superstitions have nothing to do with independence... they are just another perspective of some people..

Infact they are the ones who should scream about a lack of freedom to be superstitious or practice sati..etc....😊.. infanticide as a practice - if you talking about amniocentesis thats not wrong... if abortion is legal....Gender discrimination has nothing to do with freedom again.. I think you are mixing two things freedom is only from aggressors period.. other problems have to dealt with separately... We can use the word in several contexts.. Freedom from disease is death... there is no freedom from death...😊... So figuratively the word can be contorted to mean many things... and the debate can be never-ending...😊

I am sure if you rid you society of all the "evils" a you put it you will have to seek freedom from "drug addiction", adultery, immoral live-in's without marraige, gay culture, sexual perversions, group sex, organized crime, wife-swapping .... since society always wants evil to survive, its just that its form changes....and we as humans tend to be more negative about what got handed over compared whats happening alongside...us.So for eg.. we are likely to be more comfortable with a wife-swap or a live-in than a concept of dowry...

It works like friction and gives a sense of existence..😊

You want to say, since India is still a developing nation it is as good as a colonial nation 😕

We made one mistake, we abolished Zamindari but we got Mantris and Babus instead. But the similarity ends there.

The position of the existing Superpower. Pity it does not lower itself or we'll overtake it.😉 Seriously speaking, India has not utilised its full potential till date. We can become the superpower only when we start using our potential to the maximum.

You seem to be having some doubts about our state of independence. Let me illustrate the point with some facts.

1) During the whole period of British rule the Indian economy didn't grow by even 1%. Compare that to the present data.

2) Literacy rate was a pathetic 16.1% in 1941 and in 2001 it stands at a pathetic but better 65.38%. If you calculate the chances of your being literate if you were born a century earlier you'll understand. BTW in 1901 the literacy rate was a microscopic 5.3%.

3) Urban population in 1941 was only 13.8% which now stands at 27.8%.

4) The GDP is now trying to reach the USD 1 trillion mark.

5) Infant mortality rate has decreased though it is still quite high at 54/1000 live births.

On the contrary:

1) Sex ratio has declined from 945 famales/1000 males in 1941 to 933 females/1000 males in 2001.

2) Population growth rate has stopped growing and started galloping. It was 5.75% in 1901-1911 and 14.22% in 1931-1941 which has now become 21.3% in 1991-2001.

So, the point is only thing that India has to do is get rid of its useless poilitics and politicians who are slowing the process of growth. India doesn't need another independence from anyone becos we're not dependent on our Netas or anybody. If the present breed of useless politicians are not there India will start growing faster and all the basic requirements like health, literacy, etc. will also improve.

One more thing, you wrote:
