Double standard in sympathy toward Ovi vs. Soham

So Ovi and Soham have had quite similar experiences.

OVI:
Ovi was led to believe by Arjun that he wanted to marry her, sent her gifts, and GOT ENGAGED to her. When the truth about him and Purvi came out, Arjun was extremely insensitive to her and did not even sincerely apologize for two-timing her.

Archana and Sulochana rubbed Arjun/Purvi's marriage in Ovi's place by coming to Deshmukh house all the time and standing up for them.

Also, Ovi used to drink because of her sorrows.

SOHAM:
Soham also thinks Gauri loved him because she was so nice to him. After finding out the truth, Soham is so hurt (which I understand) and drinking because of his grief too.

Similar to Ovi, Archana is also rubbing salt in Soham's wounds by reminding him that he has to do everything for the wedding

Differences between the two:
- Arjun actually agreed to marry Ovi, gave her hope, got ENGAGED to her, and pulled out at the last minute without any sympathy, consideration, and RESPECT for the girl he called his "best friend"
- Gauri never expressed any romantic interest in Soham and did not say anything to him that would lead him to believe she loves him (at least till now)

- Archana KNOWINGLY poured salt over Ovi's wounds because she knew all about Ovi/Arjun and was there for their engagement
- However, with Soham, Archana doesn't know anything about his feelings for Gauri and is hurting him UNINTENTIONALLY

- Biggest difference: Ovi was called psychotic, obsessive, selfish and other horrible names for drinking and being upset over what she suffered. Very few here showed any empathy for her.
- The same people who wished the worst upon Ovi, including death, are sympathizing with Soham (who is behaving similar to Ovi) and going "Poor Soham" "Poor Soham".

I can tell you the difference ;)

Ovi and Soham are sure going through very similar circumstances. The only difference is that Ovi made Arjun her "obsession" and her "deal" with Purvi. She actually MADE a deal with Purvi to give her away Arjun who apparently never loved Ovi. Simple. Now in Soham's case, Gauri and Sachin do NOT love each other, but Soham loves gauri. But have you noticed? Neither had he made Gauri - his toy or obsession nor has he made a deal with his brother to give away gauri. Can't help but feel pity on Soham, but can't feel the same for Ovi. She made a living hell for Arjun and took away purvi's love of the life by crying and pleading. That is so not worth pitying.

So I guess you need to watch and understand the characters a little more closely, analyze and then conclude 😊

You're absolutely right about the deal. That was wrong for Ovi to propose. I have NEVER denied Ovi's role in the deal.

However, you missed my main point. My entire thread is about what happened BEFORE the deal.

Let me ask you this. And answer me honestly. Tell me you didn't dislike (hate is a strong word) Ovi before the marriage deal? Was everyone not calling Ovi those names BEFORE the deal? Was she not called names even when she was depressed and tried to commit suicide? And not many sympathized with her for what Arjun did to her all because Ovi didn't bend over backward for the amar premis and didn't bow down to their love?

Answer me honestly.

@ChemistryMajor : I never had any feelings for Ovi, to be extremely honest. And calling names? Really? At least I never did so because her character was shown to be such an arrogant bimbo that calling her names would be ridiculous. She already portrayed so many shades in her character. She came across to me as very outspoken, arrogant, a bit confident but she was an expert in hurting people's sentiments ESP her mother's 😆 and hey this is no name calling eh. Just giving my honest opinion 😛

Talking about double standard. Oh c'mon, every human being on this earth has a double standard. Intentionally or unintentionally, people have double standards. Now be it fictional characters or real life people 😊

Nope, those were your words so you speak about yourself and definitely not me (I can speak for myself just fine, thank you). 😃

Yep, I am glad to hear the double standard exists. Meaning Ovi hate has always been irrational, in my honest opinion of course. 😃

I can see where you are coming from. Both Soham and Ovi are experiencing one sided one.

At one point I did feel bad for Ovi because she was to be engaged to Arjun and it wasn't her fault. Likewise Soham cant help but fall in love with Gauri.

For both I didnt like how they handled. Im not proud of Soham for getting drunk and hurting Gauri like that. You cant force someone to love you.

I think Soham tends to get more sympathy as he came from a under priviledged back ground. He was taken away from his family without his consent, not given an education, and turned into a gunda.

I feel as if the parents took care of both situations wrong. I feel as if the D's feed on Ovi's one sided love they didnt help her move on properly thats why what happened happened. They never made her understand that Arjun didn't love her and that there was someone else in the world made for her.

For Soham like seriously how can you not notice something isnt right? When he heard that Arman were going to Gauri's with a proposal he was all excited then slowly he became more detached and all. Have no clue what happened today so cant comment on that.

Fabulous post Avni! :)

Exactly you can't force your love on anyone. And Soham did the most sensible thing by walking away rather than making such a big deal and forcing his love onto Gauri. He could have made a deal with Sachin, but he didn't. Coz not everyone is an obsessed lover 😆
