Hi Shyamala,
I just now saw the rerun of today's epi and was so irritated that felt writing to you all here...
THIS IS DISGUSTING !!!!😡😡 I really think that the episode writers need to get back to senses and have a control on the absurdity of the shown incidents...!! Becoz I think they have forgotten that they were supposed to write a LOVE story and not a horrible HATE saga...!!🤢🤢
I personally think that if any girl with intact selfesteem is faced with this kind of behavior of her husband towards her parents and siblings, it will take ages for her to forget that , let alone forgive!!
And our Jodha already is a person who Hates "Jalal".
It is not becoz I am upset with the sudden halt in the love story but it is the "Pathetic " behavior of Jalal towards his FIL Bharmal...!! I simply could not digest this as that somehow highlighted how illiterate and Jaahil he is...!!(I am sure in reality he was not like this).I could feel the incredible pain Jodha felt (Precap) hearing what the Jaahil was saying.😭
Worst is that , now becoz of this I am feeling extreme irritation towards this Jalal character and am not sure when that will subside.🤢
I have a feeling that they are preparing for a Jauhar decision of Jodha (as these things give ample reason for her to decide something like that)and then will try to turn the tables from that point...Or She will decide to leave Agra for her Maika even after being proven innocent as a tight slap on this Jalal's face!! Right now he is the most loathsome character among all the villainous ones..!!😕
Hope that the writers come back to their good senses and original track ...😒

BTW- This is Kamal here😊.

Dear Kamal,

I agree that the tenor and pitch of the narrative are both getting hysterical, and avoidably so.

It is not so much a question of what the real Akbar was like when he was Jalal's age.
Jalal should have been less OTT in his reactions, but he is shown from the beginning as prone to such rages, and here the blind fury is as much because he feels betrayed by the woman whom he had begun to respect, admire and care for, as because of his personal loss.

Whence his savage desire to hurt her as much as he can. In every meeting with the Amer sextet, Jalal looks only at Jodha; the rest are irrelevant. Have you read Emily Bronte's classic novel of love gone wrong, Wuthering Heights? Jalal right now is,, after allowing for the different circumstances, a good bit like Heathcliff in that book, which was and is a dream role for any actor.

But by now, Jalal's rage has turned into something perilously close to sadism . It was fascinating to watch him today - it was all so smooth and silken, and yet so much of an exercise in refined cruelty. It made for unpleasant watching, but I was impressed by Rajat, who delivered effortlessly.

But you know, Kamal, there is always a reason for a sudden and drastic change in any person's behaviour, both for the better and for the worse. Just before disaster struck, Jalal was unprecedentedly well disposed towards Jodha, though she had done nothing positive towards him personally, and always seemed to be averse to having him anywhere around her. That was a sudden, positive change, triggered by that poem. Now it is a sudden and drastic change for the worse, triggered by the death of his child.

Do take a look at a very interesting post on the thread It is Jalal, not Akbar, by one Couch_Potato at
https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/jodha-akbar/3725394/this-is-jalaal-not-akbar
You might not agree with all of it, but some of the points made are very relevant, like the one that goes as follows:

More over, him lashing out like that made complete sense. Of course when traumatised to his core, Jalaal would leave all rationality and reason and revert to his default setting. One Bairam Khan and Maham Anga have groomed and nurtured since childhood - that of a raging, bloodthirsty warrior that attacks first and asks questions later. To fall back on those principles now would give him a sense of direction and as he hopes some respite from the torment he feels inside.

Somehow, I also felt that somewhere and in some ways, Jalaal holds himself responsible too. He blames himself for not seeing it coming, for not being better prepared, for not protected his unborn baby and perhaps the worst sin of all - for softening up. Something Bairam Khan had always cautioned him against.

Nothing of what he does today is acceptable behaviour, but that is the way he is, and there is a reason why he is so. As for his studied and veiled hostility towards Bharmal as well, he must be assuming that he too was part of the saazish.

And it is even less a question of his being illiterate, which argument is really a non-starter. Let me take that up first and dispose of it.

One cannot equate illiteracy with the absence wisdom and a sense of balance and moderation, and by inference, education with the presence of these very qualities. Jalal may have said that as he feels bitter about what he has not learnt, but that does not make it correct.

It is a fallacy to assume that education automatically broadens the mind and makes one wise, tolerant and compassionate. Aurangzeb was very well educated, and so were Stalin, Hitler and Franco. Mao tse Tung wrote fairly decent poetry as well, and many of the worst Nazi mass murderers were great devotees of the German classics and of Wagner's wonderful operas. Did that make them any less of bloodthirsty, conscienceless killers en masse?

On the contrary, many poor, illiterate people in the rural areas are wise and compassionate and generous. I have personally known any number of them, both men and women.

I think the term jauhar is used very loosely in this serial. That is a very solemn and ritualistic mass immolation by all the women in a besieged fort when its fall is imminent, and not an individual attempt at suicide by setting fire to oneself, like Motibai. This said, while I cannot rule out any even greater stupidity on the part of the CVs, Jalal would take any such attempt by Jodha as an acceptance of her guilt. It would not change things in any way.

The only way the truth will emerge, it seems to me, would be for Jalal or Hamida or Ruqaiya to overhear a crucial conversation among the plotters. What are all those billowing curtains in every room for but to facilitate such an exercise?😉

I do not think Jodha will go back to Amer after she is proved innocent. That would bring further shame on her family, which would then be doubly ostracised by their community. She will, I think, remain in Agra, associate only with Hamida Banu, Salima Begum and Rahim, and try to avoid Jalal completely. Let us see.

Meanwhile, don't fret so much. Try and appreciate Rajat's very convincing takes on a vengeful Jalal, and tell yourself when it is particularly off putting This too shall pass!

Hi Shyamala,
thnx for the writeup again...Well, let me clear a few hings before I comment on the incident shown today...First of all, I am relieved to see that it was a 😛dream only ...hence not so irritated with Jalal now!! Secondly, by saying illiterate and jaahil, I meant the real sense of it and not the literal one...i.e. not someone without the literacy training but someone who has not been able to imbibe the essence of knowledge imparted to him/her, which is Modesty/Politeness ,Level-headedness and Forgiveness. For me, being educated in the truest sense is being able to imbibe the wisdom which comes NOT from the degrees one have , but from what practises of the knowledge the person has inculcated in thyself. I too have come across numerous examples of "educated jaahils" and "illiterate sages" in life till date..😉 Thirdly, yes, I have read WH but apart from the sadism on Heathcliff's part due to his early life influences, I do not see semblance with our Jalal here. But yes, I totally agree that somehow the vengeance Jalal is showing is also becoz of his impression that Jodha refuses him badly which hits his ego now and again as off-lately he had started liking her . This Rajat chap is creating a wonder with his "Oh-so-real " cruel expressions and declarations..!!👏
As for Jodha it seems that she has lost interest in everything (including hating Jalal😆) becoz of her helpless state and is trying to fumble out some way of halting the superfast train of her husband's rage.( And don't you agree that every time Jalal walks up to her is actually a way of seeing and feeling her nearby , even if it is by the context of touching her cheek to sample her teardrops and then showering her with his sadistic declarations !! This is not exactly the way one behaves with someone whom he claims to Hate!! 😉😉 becoz then u usually try to avoid even the glimpse of the person. Also, when he said that there's no ROK to his doings, it appeared he just invited Jodha to give it a try , I mean as if he meant to say "I could have happily given YOU a chance to bridle me,but you have let it go by foolishly...so now face the consequences"😛 )
U r right, let's see how the Cvs turn the tables after all these firebolts!!😊

Regards,
Kamal

P.S. I think the Cvs should try to make her more prudent after this is sorted and make her realise that she cannot only think of Amer's wellbeing while being at logger-heads with her Husband and spoil her own fate becoz of other conspirators. The fate of her homeland and herself are intertwined as of now.

Dear Kamal.

Do take a look at my latest, Wuthering depths, on last night's episode. I am sure I PMed you, and in any case, it is at https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/jodha-akbar/3727183/jodha-akbar-58-wuthering-depths

Yes, I did realise that the Heathcliff parallel had its problems, but I had fallen in love with that title, and so poor Heathcliff had to be fitted to Jalal's Procustean bed!

I agree with your take on the big Jalal-Jodha scene of tonight. About his relentless desire to be around her and hurt her personally, it is of course here a sign of a growing obsession pure and simple. But in other cases, this sort of behaviour is also a sign of festering hate, and it features in this fashion in so many films. The hater does not always want to avoid the very sight of the hated, often he/she wants to poke and prod and harass his bete noire for a sort of perverse satisfaction.

But to tell you the truth, I am beginning to find these sessions of theirs comic in the extreme. Jalal is like one of those old LPs stuck in the same place, and when he was snarling at her from 6 inches away and promising her a fate worse than death, what does she do? She says Yeh uchit nahin hai! I almost collapsed in giggles. It reminded me of her old mantra Aapko yeh karne ka adhikar nahin hai. And in the precap, I was laughing at the sole change in her mantra, that now the ghruna is for herself!

I agree with your take on Jalal's rok, and about your PS. Jodha has to grow up.

Hi Dear Shyamala,
😃 I so much agree with you about the "apparently Serious but in reality utmost Funny "exchange of dialogues...between our JA...😃Me too had a session of giggles while seeing the expressions and hearing the lines!!😆 It was out of control when Jodha said "Main sahan nahi karoongi..." while giving his menacingly smirking face an utterly frightened and helpless look..!😛
I surely am gonna read all the writeups of ur 'Wuthering Depths'...😊 I am sure they all are as beautiful as ur writeups here..!!
Seeing the posts on this topic, don't you think Balaji has actually bewitched all of us in a frenzied desire to see these two diametrically opposite characters longing for each other's affection??😉

Credit surely goes to the Czarina of Teleworld for this concept!! Don't know what is in store for us viewers in future but for now atleast HATS OFF!!👏

Regards,
Kamal

P.S.this is the 1stever EK serial which I started watching and got hooked on.
And strangely enough just now I read ur WD i.e. after typing this reply to u and I see an almost exact echo of my feelings written there😃. If u see my above post u will feel as if I had seen ur writeup there and then hv written that but it's really the other way round...!! I am amazed to see ur similar observations on Jalal's dual-meaning lines and hints...!! And the empathy with Jodha too!!
May be this shows that all us ladies here think alike about Love and the Person to be Loved!!😉
