Really?? I didn't know she had lent her voice in Nemo....

I love her show, she really does make you laugh. And you are right, I can't think of one lady from Bollywood who could be compared to her

Dharmendra (with his Jijjaji act) was really enjoyable.... and I have to say I never really enjoyed comedy of the likes of Jagdeep, Mehmood and Johnny Liver. Often times it looks forced.

Aamir Khan in Andaz Apna Apna is another performance I love and I have been loving Akshay Kumar recently....

But now I am all nostalgic, I need to go hunt for my Chupke Chupke and Golmaal DVDs.😃

Thanks😳 and its wonderful of you to revive the topic.

But where are your museful views?🤓

This morning, I typed my post and then when I hit the post button, the server was down! 😭 Lost i all. I am back, but with random points I remember.

1. As most of you suggested, very few Indian actresses get any role of substance. If the role has a soild character, then often it is a serious role (Shabana in Arth, Nandita Bose- Bhawander). I can still site examples of fun comedy in substantial role done by Juhi Chawla (Hum hai rahi pyar ke), Madhuri (Khel), Shridevi (Chaalbaaz), Dipti Naval (Chashm- e- baddoor) ,Madhubala (Chalti ka naam) to name a few.
Apparently, they are extremely rare, but I am glad we have some women who can handle comedy well. It is unfortunate, that in old times, Tuntun was used as a person to generate comedy based on her appearance and humour related to over-weight. I feel sad about that 🤢. There are few more comedians of that nature. There is also slapstick silly comedy and women (the chaos 😕usually surrounding Asha Parekh 😛, love-interest of Mahmood/ rajendranath) were involved in some of it.

2. There are some funny (yet not stupid) roles in serials, again rare. I don't see any scope for teh mega-pativrata Saloni, Bani.. yadayada to have any homour in life. That explains the c*** they are stuck in 😆😆

3. As Maya and others commented, stand-up comedy is yet not common in India. I look forward to women coming out to do that.
(i love ellen d too. her amex commercial is also funny😆)

4. Last but not the least, I am glad we (Indian women) have come a a long way and we can laugh and express ourselves freely without any inhibition. 👏👏👏 Some of us go out of the way to light up a party to cheer everyone with witty humor 😃. There were days, when only the branded cheap women could laugh out loud in public 😳.
Look at us today, 😃,
we not only LOL, but also ROTFL 😆 & 🤣 .

I hope we can see more and more roles with substance for Indian actresses. They can do them well.. If girls can make everyone cry so much😉, how can they not make everyone laugh 😆😆

Juhi Chawla and Karsihma Kapoor were good in comedy roles in the 90s.

these were the very names i was wondering abt as to y no one has mentioned them.in indian films actresses dont have much role in a film only so to expect for a good comic role is out of question.

and to talk abt today's(not talking abt kajol and others the recent once) actresses they dont knw how to act wel in simple scenes only so to perform a thing as tough as comedy is too much to hope.

and i think manini de and the gang of jassi also created good comedy.

Thanks mqt for your candid and befitting views. Its true that the concept of stand-up comedian is yet to start in India. Its picking up from the shows but the jokes are slapstick or deploring of women. The subtle and jokes abt everyday life are lacking. In Hindi movies I think the actresses excelling (done well) in comic roles were Madhubala, Asha Parekh, Nutan, Mehmood's co-star( forgetting her name), Dipti Naval, Swaroop Sampat ( Naram-Garam & Yeh joh hai Zindagi), Bindiya Goswami, Rekha, Karishma Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. TV lacks women comedian in a big way inspite of being ruled by women both stories and production.

I think to make someone laugh one needs to laugh at self first which women do not seem to do it. Women take themselves too seriously. Trying to excel at home, job, motherhood. THey just dont relax.
