SS: Unspoken part 22

Khushi opened her eyes and found Arnav's closed ones right in front of her. She gazed at the tense outlines of his face before very slowly lifting her hand and hovering it right over his cheek then dropping it back to her side. She got up with a heavy sigh and walked to the wardrobe to pick a saree to change in. But she frowned at all the pretty colors in front of her. She started wearing them as his wife but he wasn't treating her like one. Instead, she grabbed her orange and white salwar kameez and headed to the bathroom.

Eight days - it had been eight days that he was ignoring her. Eight days without any signs of love. Eight days without any forgiveness. Khushi's heart panged to think that these eight days could turn into never ending days of hate.

She quickly washed up and went back to her room to brush out her hair. As she sat at her vanity table, her eyes kept falling on his reflection in the mirror. She couldn't get her eyes off that face of his that was so handsome, it would make her blush every time he came so close to her. Her eyes moved to his arms lazily lying next to him. Those arms that created a warm cocoon for her every night and those hands that were always gently stroking her cheek and the rest of her body. And those lips! 'Hayee,' she thought.

She put her brush down and turned on her stool to look at his sleeping form before proceeding to the bed. She sat on her knees next to his body and began to stroke his shoulder, making his lids slowly open. Khushi was busy looking at his open eyes, that she didn't see his hand clamping down around her wrist and holding it away from him. "Don't," he said firmly.

She ignored him and instead wiggled out of his hold only to hold his hand. "Get up, please," she said and tugged on his hand. He sat up but looked away - like a stubborn child.

"Please look at me, Arnav," she said in a calm and collected tone. When she tried to touch his face, he pushed her hand away and began to get off the bed. Anything to get him to listen to her, she suddenly lifted herself a bit before plopping herself down on his lap. "Khushi!" Arnav exclaimed but his hand was lightly resting on her waist anyway.

Khushi smiled because she got him to look at her but it fell when his lips formed a straight line. She hooked her arm around his shoulder while the other one cupped his neck. When he tried to move it away, she only intertwined her fingers with his making him roll his eyes. She wasn't going to give up.

"Please just listen to what I have to say because my words are completely serious," she said and internally thanked God when all he did was look away from her. She looked down at their connected hands and although his was lifeless, she held on tight.

"I'm so sorry for not telling you the truth but I swear to God, I only did what I did because I was afraid of being sent back. I wanted to tell you - so many times - but terror took over. Just by the way you'd speak of the other side - it shook me. You know as much as I do that if I told you even before we got married, your reaction would have been the same." She let go of his hand and turned his face so he was looking right at her - with a sad expression. "I know I hurt you, but I'm also hurt that because of a problem you have with one man, you've suddenly stopped loving me. Do you even love me one little bit now?"

He looked down and her mangalsutra caught his eyes. He lifted his eyes back to her desperate ones and shrugged his shoulders in a helpless way. "You remind me too much of Surya and for that...I just don't know if I'll be able to look past that." He saw Khushi's lips part in shock and for the first time; she was the one to look away. He felt her arm slip away from his shoulders and her hand fall from his face. His heart deeply panged to feel her move away from him and swiftly leave the room. He wiped the corner of his eye where a tear dared to drop from. His attention snapped towards the door when he saw a little Adi come in. "Breakfast, abba." Arnav forced a smile and nodded his head as he followed after Adi.

*

Three days passed and Arnav packed his things the night before to leave first thing in the morning to Madurai. Khushi was going crazy with her silent self around him but nor did she try to pacify him anymore. If he was going to be so hell bent on hating her, then there was nothing she could do to fix that. She could sulk, but not much more than that.

"Have you told Adi?" She asked as she sat on the bed while he went back and forth between their wardrobe and his suitcase. "No," he replied.

"You better tell him."

"Don't tell me what to do," he said curtly without even looking at her. We'll see,' she thought. "Aditya!" She called aloud and Adi came running in. "Yeah?" He asked and his eyes fell on the suitcase.

Arnav gave a cold glare at Khushi before he motioned his brother to come close. "Again?" Adi asked with a frown.

"Adi, I've told you many times that this happens every month. It should not be a surprise anymore."

"Can't you stop going?" He asked with a pout and Arnav sighed before shaking his head. He picked him up and sat on the bed with Khushi inches away. "When you're old enough, I'll take you with me. Adi, this is what I have to do and even you will have to do it one day without me."

"Can I sleep here tonight?" He asked as he rested his head against Arnav's chest. Arnav moved his hair away to a plant a kiss on his forehead. "Sure."

While slowly rocking him back and forth, Arnav glanced at Khushi and saw her looking down; fiddling with the bracelet he'd gotten her from the last trip. He turned the other way and rocked for a few more minutes. He looked down and smiled at a sleeping Adi. He got up and walked around the bed to softly place his little brother down, right in the middle of the mattress.

He finished packing and went to turn off the lights. As he walked towards his bed, Khushi got up and stood in front of him. "How long will you be away for this time?"

"I don't know - but it shouldn't matter because we have nothing to say to each other anyway."

"I have a lot to say but you don't want to listen," she said quietly.

"It could just be another lie," he said bluntly. "Arnav," Khushi spoke seriously as she grabbed his forearm. "Don't do this to me, please."

"You did it to yourself, Khushi."

Khushi released a heavy sigh as he walked past. She got in bed as well and they lay face to face with the sleeping child in between them. As Adi shifted and turned on his stomach, Arnav quickly tapped his back to make sure he remained sleeping. When the tapping stopped, his hand stayed there and Khushi took her chance by placing hers on his. They couldn't see each other completely because of the darkness but they both knew their eyes were on each other.

Khushi so badly wanted to have him look at her with love instead of the old look of uncertainty - like he needed to figure out if he had feelings for her or not. She moved her hand to touch his cheek but when he moved his head away from her reach, her heart fell to the ground and her face flushed. She leaned over to kiss Adi on the head before turning her back to them to hide her broken heart from the one who broke it.

*

Arnav woke up early in the morning and quietly got out of bed as he made his way to the bathroom. He came back all dressed and picked up his luggage. He ran his hand over Adi's head then stared down at Khushi - her sleeping face towards him. His ego not allowing him to do much more, he stroked her soft and plump cheek with the back of his fingers - feeling her once before he left.

He closed the bedroom door behind him and went to the kitchen to grab a bite when he heard slow footsteps behind him. He smiled at his mother who looked very sleepy. "Why so early Arnav? It's only five in the morning."

Arnav froze for a moment before he continued. "I didn't want Adi to be awake when I leave."

"And Khushi?"

"Not a big concern to me at the moment," he retorted and his mother shook her head at him disapprovingly before pushing him aside as she stood by the gas stove to make fried eggs for him. Setting the plate in front of him, she sat down too. "This has been going on for too long - you need to get over it."

He didn't respond but instead filled his mouth with a morsel of food. He looked at her and shrugged. "Don't do that, Arnav!" she hissed at his behavior. "She has done nothing for you to hate her. Her lie is justified - it really is. But other than that, she hasn't done anything! She's not the one who killed your father - who knows if Surya is even the one!"

Arnav's head snapped up as he narrowed his eyes at his mother disbelievingly. "He is the one."

Avni shook her head and put up a hand to stop him from continuing. "Don't take this conversation to that; the point is, you need to get over this. You're killing her Arnav. You're killing yourself too."

His softened expression showed that he was considering her words. He looked up when she spoke quietly and in a loving way. "Please Arnav, take this trip as a break and come back as your old self - the one Khushi made you into that we all came to love so much."

He slowly nodded his head and quickly finished the rest of his food. He was in a haste to leave as soon as possible. His heart was starting to tighten and seeing her face would only make it worse. As he left his house, he felt a pain far greater than the last time. He looked back once and his stomach did a double flip when he saw her standing by the gate. She lifted her hand a bit to wave but he had to look away quickly. How he wished that everything could have been the same.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi dear friends! No worries. Arnav will return in the next part and something big will also happen. I have so much planned for the next part and I really hope I can get it all in but the moment you all are awaiting for is coming: Arnav's acceptance of Khushi. Trust me, it's gonna take a big turn which you would never expect. Gonna leave it there!!! 😉
My poor guy friend is having an emotional crisis and is ruining my train of thought. @Drkk, I will definitely do something along those lines. 😉 Next update my dear. Next update. lol
Bye! Love you all! I promise I read each and every single comment and I appreciate them all so so much! Thank you! 🤗
