Doc's cannot refer me to a expert or a specialist in field just 'coz my insurance does not cover me rather i would have to compromise and "try" someone else. Now this is no car body we are talking about....also, talking abot specail field "birthing" i have seen tons and tons of cases (atleast in midwest) abot dr's trying to push for natural birth....doesn't matter if it takes 24 hrs and that women special asian women 've smaller pelvic bone structure... 😡 I've tons of friends and family in west coast and Dr's who are friends in east coast and they say c-section in these two coast is very easy...compared to midwest they are so rigid 🤢 As a medical system and Dr's knowledge and confidence i would vote for India Dr's 👍🏼 and as for being polite and concerend about your privacy i vote for US dr's. 😊

You are right Soumya. That is another worrying factor. It's true that in India, many doctors try to go for C sec without much reason but there are an equal number of normal birth and good doctors don't really push for any unnecessary surgery anywhere. But here the things are much more complicated. One of my good friends went into labour two months back, and to cut a long story short, much of which would be inappropriate to describe, the doctors actually made her wait for 24 hrs in agony before going in for a very-obvious-from-the beginning C sec. The baby's heart rate dropped threateningly before the doctors swung into action and operated. To top it, they actually told her with a matter of fact manner that her baby might not survive and made her sign all sorts of forms.....seems her husband's sig alone wouldn't do....She still gets furious when she talks of it, and swears to go to India next time she has a baby, never mind about the citizenship bit. Though thankfully it did turn out good, though for over a week she seriouly contemplated suing them for almost killing her with pain...😆.Another lady recently is having a lot of issues with her kid having cold because the docs didn't clean out the fluid properly.......

In short, though the American health system might have the best tech and be very courteous, but when it comes to blunders, they are as prone to do it as their Indian counterparts, and be very very matter of fact and scary in the process 😆

I agree that doctors are prone to errors anywhere. But there is more legislature in place in the US. If a doctor makes a mistake, it's not easy to cover it up or escape from it. The doc has to face the consequences. But in India it's easier to escape the punishment. Isn't that scary? There are a lot of good points about Indian medical system, but this is not one of them.

I totally agree with you Minnie. I have exactly been in situation you described about your friends….and I was on verge of suing that Doc. Too.

TwistedDNA- Believe it or not it is not easy to sue someone even in US and it is also easy for Dr's here to escape from their blunders…compared to India it's less I agree, but they do it all the time. Dr's here 've strong network. No other Dr. wants to go against their co-doc. It is hard to make Dr's face their consequences. I was really looking into suing this Dr. after I had to go through lot of problems ..physical and emotional. But when you are suffering who have time to hire a lawyer, followup with him, find a Dr. who agree with you that Dr. you are suing was wrong and get his statement. When I had lot of complication after I had my baby one specialist told me to ask my obg why she cannot cure me after such long period and he hinted me that I need to get answers from her for my state right now. Then I discussed with other Dr. my PCP and you will not believe but she told me that it could be your "KARMA"….what the heck!!! I was shocked to hear such thing from Caucasian American Doc. Who was around 58 and had long experience in her field… I ofcourse, got rid of that PCP but to get a spiritual advise from medical representative is the last thing I want. That was the heights and bottom line is how much you think US has good legislative and justice department there are tons of loopholes too.

I really wanted to read through the entire thread before posting, but just had to jump in here before I forgot..😊

Another aspect of that is their own discomfort. Topics related to the human body, sex and sexuality are generally not discussed .. certainly not in an open and understanding manner. Therefore, there is a degree of discomfort on the nurse's part as well when she (typically) handles a patient in such a situation.

Another aspect is that the rudeness and the dismissive way in which she treats the patient is a defense mechanism for her own discomfort.

Not to say that these are excuses..

Training in sensitivity and proper handling of such situations is severely lacking due, in a large part, to the tabboo that such situations are regarded with.

Now back to page 2. 😊

Hi guys as you can see , am in a "post new topic mood"😃 . Now this topic is important to me as i have a decision to make !! So do help and debate !!

Know i have experienced Indian specialists as well as U.S Specialists . I have an opinion for both of them out of experince .

Indian Doctors -

Good points

1) They are very very well qualified and best in the field and with the knowledge and experience can give any U.S doctor a run for their money.

2) Medical facilities are almost as good as U.S in most fields.

3) You can see a Doctor , even Specialist on a short notice like "today" !!😊😊😊

4) They aren't as expensive as the U.S doctors !!😊

Negative points

1) Indian Doctors DONOT like too many questions asked by the patient , and dislike the patient challenging them . They have a tendency to get impatient !!!😡😡

2 ) Although you can see an Indian doctor at the drop of a hat . Most Doctors clinics are soooo busy on any given day that one often in many clinics does not get the privacy one wants ( with another patient over hearing your case History 😡)

3 ) Most assistant doctors and Nurses lack manners while giving you a physical . They aren't senstive to the patients feelings .😡😡

U.S Doctors

Postives

1) They are very well qualified ofcourse !!

2) They respect your privacy 100% more than Indian Doctors and most of them have very private consultation and exam rooms .What privacy.. they dont examine you on the streets do they...😆... if you expect to be asked everytime before being touched... thats impractical there a billion in the waiting room waiting to be treated...also its not fair to take your own sweet time to get dressed and undressed..😆

3 ) They are used to 1000 questions being asked by a Patient, them being challenged and infact prefer if you ask questions ( i suppose the poor chappies are afraid of being sued😆)

4) Docs and staff have excellent manners in the exam room and seem to show 100 % more senstivity towards the patient during this vulnerable time.

Negative

1) They are soooooooooo damn expensive . Even after having insurance the co- pay makes them so much more expensive than Indian Doctors.

2) You need to fix and appointment 3 months in advance before you can meet a specialist and even for a GP its a week sometimes. You could be dying of pain( not so much to rush to ER ....but die slow death 😆) u can always get a sick appt i dont think thats difficult

Well can't decide where is it better to get a treatment . Please tell me your experience and feel free to point out where you disagree .Its better to get certain common treatments in india and specialized here...Get angiplasty india, bypass here, root here, cap it in india,.......😆

Looking forward to the responses and wisdom .

Are you talking about indian doctors in US or in India...??? Indian doctors in India are reckless but good, here inactive and timid...and am not sure how good..

American doctors here are either good or bad.. Good ones are generally expensive and dont care about insurance, others are like puppets in the hands of the insurance companies and lawyers...😊.. so I would always prefer to go an Indian doctor in India and an american doctor here..unless I know the Indian doctor before hand or through other references...

Indian docs in india use human judgement.. American doctors are lost if the lab is destroyed...or closed....

Aparna, I understand perfectly what you mean!!

However, in the most recent times, it's not that way anymore. Both my kids were born in India, and then I went to several docs for variety of reasons, and invariably I found all of them having private check up chambers and especially the gynics that I visited gave my privacy a lot of importance (even my husband was not allowed unless I specifically asked). I had no fear of getting overheard by anyone sitting in the earshot, because no one was. There are some fabulous clinics out there now, and the cost is nothing compared to what it's here.Even the staff is trained to behave in a proper fashion(though they still have a long way to go before they catch up with their US counterparts in matters of courtesy). Tecnology in most such hospitals is at par with the best in the world.

Having had the reasonable experience of both American and Indian doctors, and I am much more comfortable with the Indian counterparts than the American ones. I feel the American docs are way toooo dependent on technology, and use it even to arrive at the diagnosis of smallest of ailments. One thing which definitely absent here is the moral and mental support, and a doctor never ever gives his/her opinion on any case,or even give suggestions. I have seen some terrible cases here where they refuse to admit a fully pregnant lady because she has not dilated enough and keep sending her back home with little or no concern, never mind what she would want. Where they are extremely careful in courtesy department, they make up for it by their gross shortcomings in the sensitivity department ( they actually inform a patient thrashing in pain about the options of treatment available, and actually not give any advise when the patient asks for guidance.........and of course the patient has no idea whether option A is good or option B,and even if she did,the pain is getting in the way of making any rational judgement...but that's not their concerend, they are simply making sure they don't get sued😆). Even if you are dying, short of some drastic visible development of your symptoms, you could be waiting for hrs in the emergency before you get treated. Sometimes delay could be even for a simple reason of them checking and getting (or not getting) a green signal from the insurance 😆.Sometimes you could go for an ailment, which is simple but bothersome, and the doctor actually has nothing new to offer you after you take pains to get an appointment and then pay the co fees, not to speak of the money they get from the insurance, and you come away feeling no better. In India, the doctor might actually kindly decline to take the visitation fee !!!😆.However, one very good thing about here is that they take your each and every complaint very seriously, even if they sound rediculous even to your own ears!!!

Ultimately, it depends upon your comfort level. But if privacy is the only issue, then I must assure you that now a days there are top notch nursing homes which give everything - starting from a hi tech instruments to a well mannered staff to a chic private check up facility where privacy is a given factor, complete with the typical Indian doctor who gives a high comfort level and treats you like a friend and that too at 1/10 th of the price. However, the problem of not encouraging too many questions and not specifying side effects still might exist.

Minnie ji!!

I could read your reply after somany days!! Wellsaid!!
