Friends, I get the feeling after watching yesterday's episode that these three things are important:
a. The name change issue and the title are linked:
I get the feeling that this title of Marium Uz Zamani is a clever idea of Ekta's to effect the "name change" for the serial and the character Jodha.
Historically also it was true that Jodha was called Marium Uz Zamani after she entered the Mughal Court. The twist in Ekta's tale seems to be that Ruqaiaya covets the title as it is supposed to be the most powerful title for any woman in the sultanate, even higher than the position occupied by Maham.
Ekta seems to have connected the title to the woman who is able to produce a waaris (which I suspect is Ekta's own twist) and eventually Ruqaiya after the miscarriage may not get the title and Jodha may.
By doing this Ekta would kill two birds with one stone. She would reduce the prominence of Ruqaiaya and elevate Jodha in the story and in Jalal's favours, and she would also pacify the protesting Rajputs by replacing the name Jodha with Marium. It would be historically correct as well as OK I suppose for the protesting Rajputs?
b. The Ruqaiaya-Maham combination may spell the end of Ruq's closeness with Jalal:
We saw that Ruq was clear on her priorities - she wants to be Marium Uz Zamani more than she even wants to be a mother. She said "Anyone can be a mother, but what about that fabulous title?". Now that is exactly what Maham does not want. Maham says "Any other begum wanting that title is OK, but in Ruqaiya's hands it spells doom for Adam because I have now only managed to tie Ruqaiya down from spilling the beans on the matter, I have not been able to stop her ability to spill the beans!"
Remember also how Maham told Jodha after Moti's release that when she spots an enemy she does not allow that enemy to repeatedly threaten her ... and she eliminates the enemy before it becomes a recurring threat!
Now it is my prediction here that Maham will engineer a miscarriage for Ruqaiya, because Adam is indeed in very grave danger of exposure, and a strong titled Ruqaiaya will be his death. But Maham being Maham, she will probably "engineer" the miscarriage in such a way that it looks like Ruqaiya has been careless. She may instigate Ruq to do something utterly foolish to get one over Jodha, and in the process Ruq may miscarry. I also feel Maham will have ensured that not only does Ruq miscarry but she will have done permanent damage to her ability to bear a child - thus Maham can eliminate that threat from Ruqaiaya for ever!
There are bound to be implications to the story as a result of this. For one, Jalal when he hears of Ruqaiya's negligence may be furious with her for misplacing her priorities and denying him that child he so wanted - especially for creating a situation of inability to bear a child ever ! There may be a physical and emotional split between Ruqaiaya and Jalal hereafter (good for Jodha!). On the other hand, Maham may also fan the distrust that Ruqaiya has towards Jodha (as seen in yesterday;'s precap) and thus Ruq may suspect Jodha's hand in the miscarriage (as she may think Jodha wants the waaris and the title).
Net, net, I think it is curtains for the Ruq-Jalal closeness era and the stage is set for the Jalal-Jodha closeness era. I think the devastated Jalal is going to be consoled by Jodha, who lends a shoulder for him to cry on. Maham as usual may go scot-free having been clever enough to get things done by remote control!
c. Did you all notice that jalal looked relieved when Jodha refused to lie to his mother about her pregnancy? He looked a mite frustrated but also relieved as he said "I knew you wouldn't agree!". Thank God she refused, and thank God he took it in the right spirit! He was just testing her I guess?
