So a 23 year old photojournalist got gang-raped in Mumbai today. What's going on with this country? Is it the lack of education/awareness - how a boy brought up at home, the morality (or lack of) that's cultivated since young? Is it the lack of fear - no fear of consequences or law? There is something severely disturbing in constant rape news every single day. Horny men? Are these men or animals... is it an ego/empowerment issue... what do you think is the root cause behind all these alarming gang rape cases?

It is simply the lack of respect for women. And it comes from way back. Women as mothers seldom demand to be treated with respect by their sons. They go soft on em. The sisters are taught to mind their ways while the brothers are free agents. So, most of these men never learn to respect women. And then there's the added advantage of knowing that they can walk away quite easily from any crime of this nature in our country. So, why the hell not? Right?

India is going through a process of transition from an agricultural feudal economy to an urban/modern society. I would say it's mainly because of patriarchial mindset and lack of respect and equality for women, of our society that causes these rapes and sexual assaults in our country. Lack of respect, environment and psychology from which they belonge mainly. 😳

It all seems like a big viscous circle that keeps on growing, which needs to be broken as soon as possible. And the base of it is the patriarchal society of ours which keeps getting inflated with lack of education and awareness. Also the fact that generation after generation keep following their elders blindly without questioning the rights and wrongs of it.

Why is it so frequent these days in India?

Our country is where women are the most respected in the world, nowhere else can you find that the very Creator is in the image of a woman. It my be in ancient times in Greek mythology, however currently even they are with a Male God. No where in the world can be a culture like Indian culture, then why are we plagued by this disease?

Might this be a conspiracy against the progress of India as a modern nation by our historic enemies? Have we ever thought of this possibility?

I fail to understand that our land can be in such news. I hear from my mother and people of her times that rape was unheard of during their times, and that only landlords would do it to the lower caste in those days. Now it seems that the people in cities and all over the country are effected by it.

Even if it is our product, then why so much now? What is the problem? How will ordinary people like us rest with our daughters outside?

There is only one reason for rapes - Men. You want to protect your daughters teach your sons to respect women first and that starts with not censoring your daughter on the clothes she wears, how late she stay out etc. while giving unlimited license to the sons.

And if you are the mother of a daughter do teach her to talk back, fight back, carry a peper spray in her purse and the Police COntrol Room phone number on her speed dial.

And no this is no foreign conspiracy the very idea is laughable. It is the Indian men born here and raised by mothers who use the excuse "Men will be men" to justify all animalistic acts of their children.

In a world where even dogs, goats, pigs, lions, sharks and whales can be taught to behave as per the trainer, MEN remain the only species who are unfortunately unable to rise above their instinctual response - women spend more time training households pets than they do on teaching their sons how to behave.

Copying what I posted elsewhere -

It is the fathers and brothers of these unfortunate girls who prevent the girls from reporting the crime who abet their daughter's rapists. So long as men continue to shield other men in the guise of "protecting family honor", girls will continue to be raped. How come family honor is not at stake when a son turns rapist or acid-attacker, but is immediately threatened when a girl speaks up against oppression.

It is the Indian men born here and raised by mothers who use the excuse "Men will be men" to justify all animalistic acts of their children.

Name calling and coloring all men in the same color will not solve anything but make things more complicated. We must remember that the daughters who are raped are some father's daughter and some man's love. Repeatedly we have seen helpless fathers and beaten up men. Father's running on the streets to the Police or the Hospital, helpless. The male lover or friend, blood soaked and beaten, in critical condition on a hospital bed.

While I agree that mother's must teach their son's and become more strict, enforce limitations on TV and not compromise on the basis of false sexist beliefs; it is also important to educate girls on moderation in their attitude, lifestyle and dress manners.

It cannot only be the responsibility of the family, but also the media and the community as a whole.

Why is it so funny that this decay of our society might be a foreign conspiracy?

Pls.cite instances of name-calling in my post.

Btw, aren't you the person who was spying on the son at night? Had I known that wouldn't have bothered replying to you at all. Anyway this is my last reply to you.
