HELLLO! I was supposed to update on Saturday and I meant to but I got sidetracked. I went on a crazy shopping spree and then my coworkers threw me a party! And then I was packing all of Sunday! So I typed most of this up while I sat in the car, so excuse any mistakesss! I just got home and thought I'd post this before my mom goes crazy with feeding me and I die of an Indian-food induced coma.
So the next chapter is going to be in a new thread! And its perfect, because it is going to start in NYC :) WOOT WOOT! So read this and leave me sexy comments, which you guys always do! I am still amazed as to how many of you actually like this story. I am glad you love reading it as much as I love writing it. And I loved how you guys loved that last line so much. Ahahaha. I was like "wow, a line that I mindlessly added stole the update". That was sort of amazing. SO THANKS :)
And I will try to update as soon as possible. If my mom doesn't kidnap me or overfeed me to death.
Chapter 24
Arnav ran through the airport at top speed, flashing his badge to get through the security until he reached the private waiting room where he knew Khushi was.
He came to a standstill when he reached the door. The room was completely empty with the exception of Khushi who looked like the spokesperson for dejection. Her arms were around her knees and her head rested on them as tears ran down her red face. Despite the situation on hand, Arnav couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked, even in that state.
She looked up when she heard the door open and let out a sob when she saw Arnav standing there. "Arnav!" She said breaking him out of his reverie. Arnav walked towards, automatically sitting beside her and pulling her into his lap sideways.
"Tum theek ho?" He asked as she buried her head in his chest. He felt her move her head signaling no. She did feel infinitely better than she did before though. She found it weird how she felt calmer as soon as she'd seen him, it was almost as if she subconsciously knew that he'd make everything better.
"What if something happens to her?" She whispered her voice scared.
"Asad won't let anything happen to her." Arnav reassured her, he'd seen a crazed look on Asad's face when he knocked on his door that he'd never seen before.
"This is all my fault. I shouldn't have let her go to the bathroom alone!" Khushi cried as Arnav rubbed soothing circles into her back.
"Shhh. Stop blaming yourself. There is nothing you could have done, if you went with her they would have taken you too and then how would you have informed us?" He said comforting her.
"I guess you are right." She said sniffling.
"Arnav Singh Raizada is always right." He teased.
"And there goes your ego again, it's weird to refer to yourself in third person Boss." She said a teary smile on her face.
"She'll be okay right?" Khushi asked again after a few moments of silence.
"I think we should worry more about the people that kidnapped Zoya. She'll probably drive them crazy and then they'll drop her back here." Arnav joked hoping to cheer Khushi up and placed a kiss on her forehead.
Despite reassuring her, he was worried sick too. And for the first time in years Arnav Singh Raizada prayed. He actually sent out a prayer, an awkward one at that.
Uh...Hi. I don't know how to do this...but uh, I guess if you are really up there God or whatever you like to go by... just make sure nothing happens to Zoya. Not because I am asking you to, but because she is a good person. Yeah, that's it...just, yeah.
"You know..." Khushi said after a few minutes of silence, "when we were little we used to play this game, I was always the princess, our friend Rehan was the dragon and Zoya was the prince. It made no sense, but Zoya always said Rehan was too nasty to be the prince so she'd have to pretend to be a boy. This one time we switched and Zoya was the princess, Rehan was supposed to hide with her somewhere and I was supposed to find them...he lasted all of two minutes before he came out crying. Apparently, Zoya took the situation a bit too seriously and really got into the story. She tried to beat him and free herself." Khushi giggled as Arnav laughed.
"She is something else."
"Yep! We got into all kinds of trouble while we grew up. I remember when we were sixteen we kidnapped our neighbour's dog and kept it hostage-"
"What the hell?" Arnav laughed.
"Listen!" Khushi said. "We had a reason. Our neighbor was really really fat and hairy...and he'd mow the lawn...shirtless. It was so disgusting. Zoya had one of those window beds and we'd always sit there but he was always in plain sight. So we were talking to Rehan one day and he told us to tell him to wear a shirt. But Zoya convinced me to kidnap the dog. Luckily, we didn't get in a lot of trouble because the neighbourhood agreed it was for a good cause." Khushi smiled reminiscing.
"Who is Rehan?" Arnav asked intrigued after hearing the name again
"Our childhood friend. His parents are Jiju's business partners so the three of us spent a lot of time together. Aapi was so sure that Zoya and him would grow up and get married since they argued all the time." Khushi said rolling her eyes.
"Oh...do they...?"
"Like each other?" Khushi asked and Arnav nodded. "No, they have always thought of each other as a sibling. Plus, they are so wrong for each other. He needs a quiet, homey type but strong, girl and Zoya is...well the opposite. I guess people thought that since the families were such good friends it would happen." Khushi explained.
"And you? Are there any childhood friends I need to watch out for?"
"Of course. I have a plethora of admirers, I hide them under my bed." Khushi said sarcastically.
"So the first thing I'll do when I get to New York is clean under your bed then." Arnav said.
"I think you'll find all of Zoya's magazines under it...Do you think Asad found her yet?" Khushi asked.
"Probably." Arnav said taking out his phone and locating the tracker application. "Oh yeah, they are both at the same place according to their cellphone trackers."
X-X-X
Meanwhile, in the middle of nowhere:
"I'm going to kill you, you f**king bas***d." Zoya screamed at him.
"Oh no, allow me." Asad's deep voice said from behind Akram.
Zoya watched shocked as Akram grew still and Asad grabbed him by the neck. Asad easily threw him across the room causing him to hit the wall. Zoya breathed a sigh of relief as her legs gave out making her slide against the wall and onto the floor. She thanked Allah for sending Asad right on time.
"How dare you f**king touch her?" Asad's voice, although not loud, sounded terrifying. The type that sent shivers down your spine. He had moved across the room and picked Akram up and had him against the wall.
"How the f**k did you get in here?" Akram wheezed.
"The door, your men aren't exactly...good." Asad said as Zoya watched amazed as he lifted Akram off the ground with one hand. "And you aren't exactly in a position to question me now are you? How dare you even look at her?" Asad seethed. Anwar made a choking sound, his hands tried to move Asad's hand from his neck. Asad loosened his hold a little not wanting to kill him even though he was itching to.
"Take my advice and get out of here, my men will be coming. Why are you putting your life at risk for some random bitch?" Akram said as soon as he could breathe.
This of course set Asad off again but this time he grabbed Akram's arm and twisted it causing him to yelp in pain.
"Do. Not. Call. Her. That. She is no random bitch. But I don't even know why I am telling you that, you don't even understand the worth of a woman. You like to hit women right?" Asad said punching him in the nose.
"f**k!" Akram yelled his hand going to his nose as the blood gushed out.
"If I recall correctly you slapped her two times." Asad said backhanding Anwar once causing him to fall to the ground. He picked him right back up and slapped his other cheek. "And you also pushed her." Asad said kicking him with enough force that he flew a meter before falling to the ground. Asad watched satisfied as blood flowed from his mouth.
He walked right up to him and picked him off the floor. "And you like to force yourself on them?" He asked and then kneed his groin as hard as he could causing Akram to fall down in pain. Asad kicked his ribcage hard and then his head, causing him to faint. He wanted to break every bone in his body but he had to make sure Zoya was okay. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes and then turned around. Zoya was sitting in the corner of the room, her eyes wide as she shivered. He felt his chest constrict as he noticed the bruises forming on her cheeks and a little bit of blood on the side of her lip.
"Zoya." Asad whispered running to her and pulling her into his arms. "Are you okay?" He asked pulling back and holding her face in his hands. This caused her to flinch, bruises already forming from the hits earlier. Asad felt his heart constrict as a tear rolled down her cheek. He wiped it away gently and then untied her hands. Her wrists had rope burns on them, deep ones. He brought her hands up to his face and placed a kiss on them before grabbing her face again, lightly this time.
"Zoya!" He tried again but got no response. "Zoya, TALK TO ME DAMNIT! Say something. Are you okay?"
"I-I am okay." Zoya whispered. "Just- uh, a bit shocked."
Asad sighed and pulled her into his chest, placing his head on top of hers. Zoya sighed in relief and curled into his chest, letting the tears flow as the events of the past few hours sunk in. He let her cry murmuring words of comfort and occasionally placing kisses on her forehead of her cheeks, wiping away tears.
They sat there for quite a while until Zoya remembered the earlier incident and pushed him away.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She screamed causing Asad's eyes to widen.
"Uh, saving you." He said shocked, which further angered Zoya.
"You f**king idiot. What was that this morning? You didn't even TRY to stop me, you didn't even say bye. What's the hell is your problem? You act like you don't care for me and then you come running and practically kill a guy when something happens to me!" She yelled.
Asad's temper was back from its temporary vacation all of a sudden.
"Well, aren't you the biggest hypocrite out there? Did you say anything? Did you ever tell me you wanted to stay?"
"Of course I did. On the night of the party."
"Well excuse me if I didn't take you seriously. You also said that Arnav was a fat woman, Aman was Thakur and Khushi was a buffalo!"
"I meant it, why would I say it? Why are you so dense sometimes? Of all the people in the world, I end up with the most emotionally challenged man in the history of men..." She yelled, her voice lowering near the end.
"Zoya." He said after a few minutes.
"Yeah?"
"You seriously have got to be the craziest, most stubborn''" he paused for a second "'sexiest and bravest woman I have ever had the pleasure of arguing with, you know that?"
She narrowed her eyes at him still mad about earlier "I just don't understand why you'"
Asad sighed moving his hand around her neck and pulling her towards him until their foreheads rested against each others and their noses touched. His other hand went up to gently hold her face as he rubbed soothing circles into her cheek.
"Why I what?" He asked.
"I don't know. Everything. Why don't you ever say anything? What is going on in that brain of yours? I...I just wish I knew what you were thinking." She sighed.
"And you think I don't wish the same. You are just as bad as me Zoya. You didn't say anything either."
"But why did you-"
"Why did I come running here? Why did I not say anything before?" He asked as Zoya nodded. "I was scared."
"Of?" Zoya prompted when he didn't response.
"Of losing you. God Zoya. I am not good at this. I've told you, this is my first relationship. I don't know what to do or what to say. I've been trying to talk to you since the night of the party but something always went wrong. I was going to talk to you this morning but then...and then your Aapi started talking about how she was going to get you married off to Rehan and how you were childhood friends, soulmates and I just didn't- I didn't know what to think anymore. You already seemed to be ignoring me...and I thought that maybe- maybe I was reading in to this too much...that you didn't feel what I did, and I ' I just couldn't do anything. And then Khushi called and I felt that my world just ended when she said that you were gone." He said not being able to stop once he started.
Zoya's eyes grew wide with every word.
"What?" She asked.
"What what?" Asad asked confused.
"What were you going to tell me?" She whispered.
"Zoya. It's pretty obvious no?"
"I want to, no I need to hear it." She whispered.
"Uh...woh."
"No uhs, and wohs. Just say it."
"I am in love with you Zoya." He whispered. A wide smile spread across Zoya's face as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
"I love you too." She whispered back. "We are both so stupid." She sighed.
"Yeah. Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.
"I thought you didn't - uh want me to stay...or love me."
"But why?"
"Your job..."
"Huh?"
"Arnav said that you aren't allowed to keep in touch with your "assignments" so he quit. But you didn't even say anything about it, about what was going to happen when that time came so I thought..."
"You thought I...I am so stupid. I was going to hand in my resignation right after we left the court."
"Oh..." Zoya said.
"Yeah, oh."
"Oh my god. We are both so stupid. What are we going to do with our lives? You don't say anything because you are emotionally challenged and I like to interpret everything and exaggerate it to the extreme and cause myself heartache. What would have happened if I had just left. Oh my god, I'd probably be a depressed woman with grey hair and fifty cats...and I don't even like cats. Their eyes are so scary, I like kittens though. They're cute...wait I would have been a old single dog lady though...actually, Aapi probably wouldn't let me stay single. And I can't beli-"
"Is there any point in time when you will stop talking and take a breath?" Asad interrupted.
"I'" she started, but Asad didn't give her a chance to say anything else. He closed the rest of the distance between them and placed his lips on hers as their eyes closed.
They didn't know if it was due to the situation they were in or due to the recent confession but they both felt their hearts warm up as they kissed. They couldn't think straight and they never wanted to break away. Asad felt a little light head and Zoya felt goosebumps appear all over her body as Asad traced her bottom lip with his tongue and invaded her mouth, wrestling with her tongue, tasting her.
Zoya's hands found their way to his hair and tugged causing a raspy groan to escape his throat as they pulled away, their foreheads resting against each other again.
"I love you." Zoya whispered.
"I love you too." He smiled moving away. They both sat there for a while before Asad realized where they actually were. "We should get going..."
"Oh shit! Everyone is probably worried sick!" Zoya realized.
They both looked at each other and burst into laughter. They admitted their love to each other in some random building where she was held hostage and he broke into. They had literally forgotten about the man lying unconscious a few feet from them.
"Let's go." Asad said pulling her into his arms and carrying her out the door.
"I can walk you know." Zoya said.
"Yeah, well I don't feel like letting you go just yet." He said as he walked over the other two men.
Zoya blushed and placed head head against his shoulder. Her smile was back on her face, for the first time all week.
"You know, this is quite the interesting story to tell the kids when they ask how we admitted our love." She pondered.
"Kids?" Asad said.
"Uh- well...you know. I mean since you love me and I love you...we may get married...and we might have kids and they might you know...ask." Zoya blushed having already planned their whole life out in their head.
"Not might. Will." He smiled putting her in the passenger seat of the car. "We will get married, we will have kids and since they share your DNA they will be nosy and they will ask." Asad laughed as Zoya smiled.
