Part 3

Kria woke up with a splitting head ache as she had a very disturbed night .. she had hardly slept the whole night .. her mind had been just thinking about the past .. the past when she had met Rey .. the first and the only time ..

She sat in her dark room looking blankly at the ceiling .. she could feel her tears already withered on her dry cheeks ..

Yes , she had never believed that Rey would ever call her or meet her after knowing about her the following morning .. she had hidden the fact that she was the model for Rey's Dad's cosmetic brand and it was no child's guess that she slept with him to return the favor and to gain maybe more in future , just like how her Dad wanted ..

But somewhere in her innocent heart .. she had this tiny hope that he might call to ask why she did what she did ..

But , no call came , no Rey came .. and as time passed by, her hope died slowly in her heart .. the memory of the name and the face of Rey faded .. but what remained fresh was how she had felt with him .. his touch was something she could feel even today ..how he had made her feel special .. like no other man had ever made her feel .. maybe Aryan had done that to some extent during their courtship period .. but what followed after that , had completely shattered her ..

She hugged herself as fresh tears again made their way out of her eyes ..

She had heard about RS Financial Services from Aryan a number of times .. but she had never known that the CEO was called Reyaansh Singhannia .. and when she had received the invitation thru her PA from the company , she had made the biggest blunder of her life by not checking about it ..

She had not thought in her wildest dreams also that this Rey Singhannia would be the same she had met 9 years back ..

How could she have been so stupid..

Now her movie would have to pay for this imprudent mistake of hers .. She was sure , Rey was capable enough to influence people not to distribute her movie .. and her movie might see its death without being seen by the public ..

She hid her face in her palms .. shutting her eyes tightly ,trying to stop the tears .. she can't give it up so easily .. she had to fight .. she had never got anything easily in her life .. she knew how much she had struggled for everything .. and here the matter was something really close to her heart .. and she really wanted to do full justice to it ..

She won't give it up before a fighting till the end .. she took a deep breath and pulled the curtains aside to see the beautiful sun rising giving her the hope and determination ..

"Mr. Kapoor .. I am so grateful to you that you took out time for me .. and agreed for this meeting " Kria spoke softly ..

"Kria , I don't have time for all this crap .. lets just get on the main discussion .. " he said indifferently ..

Kria knew she had to make a good impression on Mr. Kapoor .. he was a very decent and highly professional person .. he gave truthful reviews and would back a movie if he genuinely found the subject interesting .. he would never hesitate to give a chance to any new comer .. he was more concerned with the work ..

Kria had remembered that he was not present at the previous night's party .. so she was hopeful that he had not heard about her humiliation ..

She spoke politely "Yes .. I understand .. actually we don't know each other personally .. and I am a model cum actress now coming up with my first directorial venture .. I .."

He interrupted her ..

"To put it bluntly .. I care a damn who you are .. and what you do .. if you really want to know .. I have almost no opinions for actresses .. " he said dryly ..

"I really don't want your opinion about me .. I want it for my movie .. "

He was a bit surprised at her come back .. Ok so what he had heard about her was true to some extent , there was some character beneath that beautiful face .. No actor had ever said this to him before ..

"Well .. I must say you have the courage to say that .. but let me be frank with you .. I had worked with Geeta who was initially directly the movie and she was highly impressed by you .. that was the sole reason I agreed to meet you .. "

"Thanks once again .. I know its my first time directing a movie .. but I really want you to see it once .. "

He saw the sincerity in her eyes .. "Yes .. I will definitely see it .. " he smiled .. "Don't be nervous about being first timer .. I really don't care about whether the movie is directed by a novice or an experienced director .. it must be appealing .."

"Yes .. it is heart touching "

"Well then , if I like it .. I can go to all the extent to distribute it and will see to it that its seen by maximum number of people "

She gave a weak smile .. " I have scheduled the viewing 2 days later .. "

"Ok "

"Can you get some other financiers also to see the movie .. I mean ..it would be a good publicity for the movie .. "

"Well I can try .. but I can't promise .. " he nodded with a tight smile ..

"Thank you so much for all this .. you don't know how indebted I feel .. I can do anything for this movie .. " her face reflecting the honesty of her heart ..

Before Mr. Kapoor could say something .. a voice was heard by them .. " Yes .. her anything could be even being a blanket for you , Mr. Kapoor .. how would you like that .. "

The both turned to the face whose voice had just spoken .. Kria almost felt dizzy .. She couldn't believe that Rey was here .. is he stalking her ? .. how did he know that she was having a private meeting with Mr. Kapoor ..

"What do you mean .. Mr. ?" asked Mr. Kapoor angrily .. he was never a man who would do anything below his dignity and even though he was in the film industry for last 10 years .. he had maintained his own reputation .. he was a man with high principles ..

"Its Reyaansh .. Reyaansh Singhannia " Rey forwarded his hand .. "I was just saying from personal experience " an evil smirk adorned his face ..

"Is this some kind of a joke .. ?" Mr. Kapoor looked at Kria ..

"No .. Mr. Kapoor .. "

But , Rey didn't let her complete her side .. " Mr. Kapoor .. I don't think I need to explain that an actress who has just divorced one of the top cricketers of the country , is just trying to bait her next cash cow .. "

Then he turned to Kria .. "Isn't that true ?" raising a brow ..

"No .. it's not true .. Mr. Kapoor .. please I have no ulterior intention other than promoting this movie .. " she tried her best to convince Mr. Kapoor .. but she could see the doubt filling his eyes ..

"Aren't you in need of money , Ms. Ghai ?" Rey asked

"Yes .. but I have come here purely for the movie .. " she just couldn't bear to see that all her hopes were being crushed .. She could see Mr. Kapoor re-considering his thoughts about her ..

"And if I may state my own experience , you can really do anything for money and I guess scamming others is just as easy for her as sleeping.. " Rey remarked with a cool air ..

Kria almost lost her balance .. she couldn't believe Rey would get that one incident and hit her below the belt .. it was not fair ..

Mr. Kapoor stood up .. "I think the meeting is ended .. " and walked away ..

Kria felt outrageous standing in front of the man for whom she had a special corner in her heart .. he had a right to question her about what happened between them .. but he had no right to shred her dignity to pieces which he had just done ..

She was shivering with every emotion which could just lead to slapping the man in front of her .. . her eyes blazing with fury .. but she was not a woman who would ever create a scene .. she had never been like that .. maybe some consider it her weakness .. but that was their problem ..

She rubbed her bare arms where she could feel the goose bumps .. calming herself a bit .. as she could see a few heads turning towards their table to pick up what little gossip they could .. "I don't scam people , Mr. Singhannia .. " she said clearly without any trace of guilt or remorse in her eyes or face , meeting his constant and strong gaze with confidence , surprising Rey a bit with her expression ..

He actually had this thought running in his mind .. whenever he had seen her catwalk the numerous ramp shows , she had this dead , stony , blank almost empty expression on her face .. he had almost believed that she was the same inside too ..

"Aryan went bankrupt .. where did the money go then ?"

Oh , so he was accusing her .. " I didn't touch his money , it could have been drugs probably , and so he had a stroke .. " she said honestly ..

"So you left him ?"

Impatience creeping on her nerves .. " It was mutual "

"That's not what he said .. "

She took a deep breath .. why was she having this conversation when he doesn't believe a word she was saying ..

"Maybe he didn't tell you the whole truth "

"He is my best friend .. and I know him very well .. " snide evident in his voice ..

She knew she would be sick after this .. She literally cried with pain , a pain which you feel when you are being blamed for situation where you were the victim and not the culprit ..

"If you hate me so much , why take the trouble to invite me for this festival .. ?" she asked ..

"Curiosity ... " he replied , his eyes boring into her as if seeing thru her ..

"I am representing a movie .. "

He whistled softly .. "Model .. then actress .. then director .. I didn't know you had so many hidden talents " he looked at her from head to toe ..

His unwavering gaze making her feel vulnerable.. she could almost feel if he could see each and every inch of her skin beneath her gown ..

She hated how he was making her feel .. so low about herself .. but she had worked hard .. and she knew it ..

"I want a buyer for it .. and if I don't get it then I will have to distribute it myself and that would need money "

"Aahaa .. that's the catch then " he smiled triumphantly .. "So you in need of money . ? "

She simply kept quiet .. she had enough of him .. she stood to leave ..

"Kria .. you need money .. I can give you .. " he said holding her wrist boldly ..

She shivered at his touch .. Rey didn't respect her. In his eyes she was no better than s**-for-hire ... And now he'd just offered her money

"What do you exactly want ?"

His lips curved. His eyes narrowed as he smiled. "I want you."

She looked at him for a moment, unable to find the words for his audaciousness. "Me?"

He simply nodded .. His gaze held hers. "How much do you need?"

She lifted her chin. "How much do you have?"

He suddenly laughed. "So tell me about your film then. Do you play the starring role? And is there any nude scenes of you ? "

Kria was not surprised at all for what he said .. almost everyone would have thought the same when imagining a movie with Kria Ghai ..

All her anger left … and she felt a similar ache which she felt when her fans or media or industry folks misunderstood her or misquoted her ..

She didn't know why .. but she still had some faith that Rey would understand her .. that disappeared too now ..

He was no different as she had considered him .. he was one of them .. he was just like them .. he was one of the species called Male .. whom she hated ..

She would get the money .. she would go to any extent to make her movie be seen by maximum number of people .. but on her own grounds .. without losing her self-respect .. she had enough of his insults , his demeaning words ..

She knew she didn't want to continue this conversation another moment.. "No"

She met his surprised gaze and then mustered a small, painful smile. "Goodbye, Mr. Singhannia .. " and she walked out without glancing back ..

It was pouring outside when Kria walked out of the restaurant .. she was so lost in her own thoughts that she just decided to walk to her hotel which was just 2 blocks away ..

She walked a couple steps in the rain before realizing she should have called the hotel taxi ... She was completely soaked and freezing and she still had 1 more block to walk ..

As she walked on the lonely street , she saw a quick movement from the corner of her eye .. she almost felt her hair rise due to fear .. her sixth sense warned her about danger around her .. As if her mind had instructed her , she turned around and realized that she was not alone anymore .. two men were behind her ..

She knew she had made a terrible mistake walking alone to her hotel ..

She glanced right and left .. looking for another pedestrian or car .. but finding none at the late hour in the night , her heart sank ..

She turned on her heels and started walking briskly , very well aware of the footsteps behind her ..

Suddenly a dark Mercedes pulled up next to the curb .. the tinted window on the passenger side went down .. Rey leaned across the empty passenger seat "Get in " and then opened the car door ..

A sigh of relief ran down her spine ..

The moment she was seated, he accelerated, pulling away from the curb. "You're at the Taj, aren't you?"

"Yes." She was trembling so much it took her a couple tries to get the seat belt buckled. "Thank you."

He shot her a quick side-glance. "We should call the police."

"And tell them what? That two men approached me on a street corner?"

"You could have been hurt."

"I know." She lifted her head and her gaze briefly met his. "Thank you."

Rey's stomach tightened .. Her eyes were beautiful .. There was so much emotion there, so much intelligence and intensity .. he was almost transported back to the time when he had seen her for the first time ..

He had been sitting in the restaurant for some time thinking after she left .. he was just beginning to realize that she may be different from what he had imagined her to be .. or thought her to be ..

He had seen her eyes at the party previous night .. then at the restaurant today and now .. he couldn't come to convince himself that those eyes could belie or deceive someone ..

His thoughts about her had been based on his one night experience with her .. Aryan's conversations about her and what was written about her in the tabloids ..

Maybe it was now time to find the real Kria Ghai ..

As Rey escorted Kria thru the crowded and the elegant lobby of the Taj hotel , all eyes were on them .. as she was still a bundle of nerves, but even jittery and wet, with her long hair slicked back from her face and his coat around her shoulders ..

Rey felt the stares and heard the whispers as they passed through the lobby, and he was sure Kria did, too, but she said nothing, her shoulders back, head high, walking as if she hadn't a care in the world.

They entered the elevator , she slid his tuxedo jacket off her shoulders and handed it back to him .. "I don't know what to say .. should I be thankful to you or not .. you destroyed my image here and then saved me now .. " she paused and looked again into his eyes "Why ?"

Good question, he thought, he just answered with a shrug "I don't know "

A group entered the elevator .. it was some kind of a band group .. they crowded the whole elevator .. the lead looked at Kria .. "Hey Babes .. " eyeing her and trying to shift next to her ..

She gave a weak smile…

Rey moved towards Kria blocking her from the rest of the group .. she was almost caged in his arms ..

As he stepped toward her he caught a whiff of her perfume, a very light floral scent that somehow suited her perfectly .. and reminded him of the past ..

He looked into those deep eyes again .. then looked at the shivering lips and simply lowered his head and kissed her ..

His kiss was so gentle .. his action , his confidence was so perfect .. nothing surprised her at all ..

His hand had slid from the back of her head to her back .. the slow travel of the hand had sent shivers down her spine ..

It was exactly how he had kissed her 9 years back ..

She felt dizzy with her own response to his touch ..

He slowly lifted his head when elevator stopped at the top floor .. he held her gently by her waist and led her to her suite ..

He took the key from her and opened the door for her .. then ran his thumb across her warm flushed cheek " See you tomorrow , Kria .. "

Their eyes met and held and she saw a flicker in his eyes, as if he was trying to read her ..she was not sure what it meant ..

And then he turned around and walked away.
