Asad lowered his head and furrowed his eyebrows as he watched Zoya slowly inch towards him, seeming a little flustered. What was this girl up to this time? A loud roar of thunder stopped Asad from finding out though. Zoya recoiled so badly from the shock of the sound that she fell backwards onto her bed, leaving Asad flailing his arms in thin air as he made a futile attempt to grab Zoya before she fell.

"Miss Farooqui! Can you please try to be a little careful?" Asad reprimanded a sheepish Zoya, who just smiled weakly at him in response. He shook his head slowly and frowned at the fact that now Zoya couldn't be bothered to get up after falling clumsily like that. Seriously, what was going on in that head of hers?

Tanveer stood at the foot of Zoya's room door, deciding on whether she should open the door and quench her curiosity. She scowled as she recalled the events of a few minutes ago. She had greeted Asad cheerily when he walked through the front door after returning from work, just to be ignored completely. Asad had then walked straight to Zoya's room and entered it, closing the door behind him and making Tanveer curious as hell.

Unable to wait patiently outside anymore, Tanveer pushed the door slightly ajar and peeped in. She stared confusedly at Zoya, who lay sprawled across her bed in an unsightly manner, with Asad looking over her disappointedly. Tanveer grit her teeth at the sight. She just didn't get what Asad saw in this clumsy, messy, unladylike girl. Weren't all of Zoya's mannerisms the complete opposite of what Asad wanted in his life partner? Why then is he always so enthralled by her? Tanveer clenched his fists and craned her neck to lean further into the room and eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Miss Farooqui, please tell me aap yeh kya karne ni koshish kar rahi thi?" Asad asked calmly, as Zoya finally found enough common sense to sit up and face him properly. He watched Zoya's expressions change from worry to resolve before she finally answered him.

"Pehle aap bataye, ke aap mere kamre mein kya kar rahe ho? Woh bhi knock kiye bina?" Zoya retorted, turning the tables on him with great ease. She watched Asad growl in exasperation and make a weak attempt reach for her with his hand, before pulling it back and crossing his arms over his chest.

"I came here to ask you if you made any progress with regards to your father. There isn't much time left before Friday you know," Asad replied, his jaw clenched in a bid to control his temper. Hadn't he asked her this repeatedly ever since he walked into her room? Was she secretly hard of hearing? He noticed realization dawn upon Zoya's face and thanked his lucky stars.

"And you think I don't know that? I'm trying my hardest, but baarish ke wajeh se kuch pata nahi chala. Don't worry Mr Khan, agar Friday tak mujhe koi clue na mile, toh main khud apna bags pack karke chali jaaongi. We won't need to go through with this nakli nikaah," Zoya replied, albeit a little spitefully. She watched Asad's hard features soften on his face as she completed her sentence, and looked away immediately. She didn't need his pity.

Tanveer reeled from the revelation she had just made. So that's the story behind this whole nikaah thing! Asad was just trying to buy Zoya time to find her father. Tanveer dropped her tensed shoulders in relief and smiled to herself. There was nothing to worry about after all. If Zoya did find her father by Friday, then there's absolutely no need for her to stay here anyway. And if she didn't succeed, the nikaah will still be cancelled and Zoya would have to go back to New York. Whichever way this went, Zoya would still leave that too by Friday! Tanveer closed the door quietly and skipped happily away from Zoya's room. She didn't need to do a thing now.

Asad found himself at a loss for words as he watched Zoya fight her emotions and put on a brave face. She was really fighting with inner turmoil, and here he was, being as insensitive as ever. He leaned onto her bed and rested his hand on her shoulder, tentatively, just to be brushed off by Zoya immediately.

"There's no need to feel bad Mr Khan! Isme aap ki koi galati nahi hai. It's just circumstances that have brought us to this point. Agar mere kismet mein likha hoga, toh main mere abbu se zaroor miloongi. And if it isn't, then that's too bad. I'll accept my fate. My life isn't too bad as it is; I have my aapi and my jeeju. I'll be okay, don't you worry," Zoya chirped after a while, smiling through her tears. She grabbed Asad's hand and laced her fingers through Asad's, using his hand to stand up from the bed. Asad smiled at her, and she just smiled politely back, before tugging at his arm and guiding him out of the room, closing the door once he was out.

Asad stared at Zoya's closed room door, a small smile still playing at his lips. This girl was truly the biggest puzzle of his life. At one point he felt like strangling her, at another he wanted to pull her into a tight hug and never let go. It was amazing though, for someone who's been through so much, to still be so happy and optimistic. He really ought to learn a thing or two from her.

Zoya too stared at her closed room door from the inside, her hand resting on her chest in a bid to calm her racing heart. She couldn't believe she had even tried to kiss him. What was wrong with her? She scanned the ground to find her magazine and picked it up, flipping to that article yet again. She really wanted to get her answer though, and the article clearly stated that her answer was only a kiss away. But if she tried to kiss him, he'd definitely flip and start giving her a lecture about her lack of tameez and tehzeeb.

Zoya sighed sadly and flopped down on her messy bed yet again, her burning need to find out what a kiss with Asad would be like consuming her from the inside. A flash of lightning struck across the sky outside her window, at the very same time an idea struck Zoya. He'd be mad if she tried to kiss him, but what if he kissed her first? Zoya smiled impishly. All she needed to do now was to put Asad in such a situation that he wouldn't be able to resist kissing her. The question now was how was she going to go about doing this?
