The above sentence says it all. I will give an example from my experience. In Class VII our English Ma'am divided the entire class into groups and gave us situations of a Shakespearean drama and asked us to write about it. I used dictionary and used the toughest words possible and also wrote everything as much in Queen's English. In my opinion we did really good compared to other groups. When the grading came the other group got higher grade than ours and I was surprised at a mediocre work getting more grade. This is what the teacher told me 'Write simple and interesting. Don't thesaurize your composition. Don't try to impress your reader with big words.'
As I said before mediocrity is relative.
👏👏
Jus a note:
With no offence Maya...
I would not see thesaurizing a writing or a composition as losing its essence. Its all about conveying the point across , be it using better words or in lay man terms. Its all about being able to express.
A simple write up can fail to convey the point and so can a thesaurized write up...
Language at the end of the day is just a means of expression and it is up to the author to use it at his will to express emotions!
I am sorry , but I fail to see how the writing has been compared to mediocrity, it seems to have completely differed from the point of discussion.
I understand the purpose of this debate was to discuss mediocrity as a general perception and not jus for writing...
Mr Velu, correct me if I am wrong, was this the intention of the debate?
