Alka: One shrewd cookie
Alka like Kumud is papa's girl. Both are fiercely concerned of their father's izzat and image in society. Both help their parents selflessly - so much so that their fathers depend on them.
Now, given that she could not stop the Padh Phera ceremony - Alka is determined to protect her father and ensure that his political standing is not diminished by her wastrel brother Pramad's abusive behavior towards Kumud.
So what does Alka do to achieve her goal?
Get Kumud to be 100% committed into shielding Pramad in front of her parents the Desai's, and get them to believe that everything is lovey-dovey between her and Pramad.
How did Alka manage that?
In short, she used emotional blackmail! By insinuating that Kumud was a tainted girl who was rejected at the wedding mandap. That this shortcoming of Kumud and Kumud's parents need for conducting a shotgun wedding was not only overlooked but also not considered significant by her and her parents.
