Chapter-10

Ashutosh was infuriated at the knowledge of Nidhi being slipped off the staircase, by a trick of Mallika...

A: Jhoot! ye kis liye aayi thi, mere samajh mein aa raha hai... Infact mujhe doubt ho bhi raha tha, ke kab tum mujhe apna ye rang dikhati ho...

M: Ashutosh, ye tum kya keh rahe ho... mujhe toh kuch samajh nahi aa raha... Main... Main kaun sa rang dikha rahi hoon... (Trying to be innocent)

N: Dr. Mallika, jis din se aap aayi hain, main bhi dekh rahi thi, ya toh aapkii nazrein Dr.Ashutosh par aake tikti thi, ya meri pregnant state par... Don't tell me, ke main kuch bhi soch rahi hoon... I too can see it very well... And I second Dr. Ashutosh...

M: Arrey par, main aisa kyu karungi... (The outrightly ignoring Nidhi she started talking to Ashutosh) Aur agar maine Nidhi ko dekh bhi liya, toh whats wrong in that... Kya ghar mein sab ki nazar nahi padti hogi uspe... Ya, sirf meri aankho se wo pregnant dikhti hai... (Giving a fake laugh) Kuch bhi keh rahe ho tum...

But, Nidhi again said on their behalf...

N: I Know, This is pretty obvious for every eye to see, but, what matters is, the way they see... And Dr. Mallika, I can see, you don't look at me that way...

And leave my pregnancy, you have very great interest peeking in our privacy, you want to hear, every conversation we have, you have to be somewhere around Dr. Ashutosh... Coming in his study, when you knew, the entire family was busy in the get together... Dr. Mallika, do you think, I'm a fool... Can't I see it...

M: (Bringing tears of innocence& again talking straight to Ashu, n not Nidhi) Ashutosh, I very well know, you don't like me, and, you, not by any means are going to accept mine and Rohan's relation... Fine... Thats quite acceptable too, this is a very unusual type of a relation, just like yours and Nidhi's... But, when You and Nidhi can run your relation on a smooth track, why cant I and Rohan? And just because, you don't want to accept me as the Daughter-in-law of the house, you'll accuse me of these things??? Thats pretty unfair.. (And she completely breaks-down infront of the whole family... sitting in her knees on the floor, hiding her wicked smile, with her palms on her face, she started crying bitterly...)

Finally Rohan taking pity on Mallika, comes in front, and Holds Mallika by her shoulders, looked at Ashutosh with Pleading eyes... But, seeing her crying so much, he feels bound to say his word to his brother...

R: Bhaiya, aap har baar Mallikaji ko kyu rula dete hain... Har baar unka kasoor kaise ho sakta hai... And Bhabhi aap ye kya keh rahi hain, Mallika ji par aap aise ghatiya ilzaam laga rahi hain... Bhaiya-Bhabhi, kuch toh sochke boliye...

The very first time, Ashutosh didn't want to explain anything to his brother... Lot of things have been said and done... Rohan by no means in going to learn any lessons taught by him...

So he angrily averts his eyes from Rohan... This time, Rohan is also exasperated with the situation he is stuck in... Where to go... This is going to last all his life... How long, is he going to face this similar situations... This is really irritating and annoying... And in his exasperation, he blurted out...

R: Huh! Main toh tang aa gaya hoon, iss roz-roz ke jhagde se... Pata nahi kyu Bhaiya, aap baat samajhte hi nahi hain... Subah-subah mood kharaab kar diya... (Then goes and picks Mallika by her shoulders to make her stand on her feet) Chaliye Mallika ji... Hum kahin baahar chalte hain... Kuch mood theek ho jaayega...

(Giving neither him or anybody a backward glance, Rohan leaves the house holding Mallika by her shoulders out of the house)

When Rohan and Mallika were out of sight, and the Family heard the car going out with a screech, Alok Mathur and Anu Mathur looked at Ashutosh and Nidhi... Ashutosh was still flaring with anger, but went to hold a still dazed and shocked Nidhi... Indeed, that almost fall,and the fear of losing her baby, gave her a big shock...

They quickly ran towards Nidhi, when Alok Mathur shouted for Hiraman Kaka to bring some water for her... After making Nidhi drink a glass full, they just lovingly patted her head and shoulder... But she still seamed scared, only for her baby... She just looked with uncertain eyes towards her Mother-in-law, as in asking, if the baby is ok...

Anu: Kuch nahi hua Nidhi... See, you are absolutely fine... Ashutosh caught you in time, and see (Putting Nidhi's hand on her tummy) its still here... And I'll check you up... I'm really sure, kuch nahi hua hai... Come... Come in my room, I'll check you up...

Bringing her in the room, while Ashutosh and Baba, restlessly paced out of the room, in anticipation... After sometime, Anu Mathur opened the door, on cue, both the men entered in, waiting for Anu to announce the health bulletin...

Anu: Dekha... Maine kaha tha na, kuch nahi hua hai Nidhi... You and my grand child both are absolutely fine... its doing good... We'll do one scan too at the clinic, to make it absolutely sure... Ok Nidhi?

Nidhi nodded with a faint smile... But, although, Ashutosh had heaved a sigh of relief about the welfare of Nidhi and his baby, still, the lines of tension were evident on his face... Running a hand at the back of his hair, he finally said-

A: Maa-baba... Aise-kaise chalega...? Kab tak hum aise hi Meri izzat, Nidhi aur bachhe ki zindagi ko daav pe laga sakte hain... Mujhe khud ki parwaah na bhi ho, lekin, mujhe iss ghar ki, khaas taur par Nidhi ki bohot chinta sataa rahi hai... Maa-baba... maine ab tak koi faisla nahi liya tha... jab tak baat mujh tak thi, it was ok! But, main, Nidhi ya baby ko kuch nahi hone doonga... Chaahe uske liye mujhe kuch bhi karna pade... And I have decided...

MAIN AUR NIDHI YE GHAR, YE SHEHER CHODKE JAA RAHE HAIN...

Both Alok and Anu Mathur were perplexed with this announcement...

Alok: Kya? Ashu, ye tu kya bol raha hai beta... Tu Rohan ki naadaani aur Mallika ke in chochlon se, iss ghar ko chod ke chala jaayega? Iss ghar ke tukde kar dega? (Then holding Ashu by his shoulders) Ashu, tu iss ghar ki neev hai, mera ghuroor hai, mera abhimaan hai... Agar teri maa aur main jad (Roots) hain iss ped ki, toh tu iss ped ka trunk hai mere bachhe, tere bhai toh phir iski shaakhein (Branches) hain... Beta, tu agar unse alag ho gaya, toh wo sookh jaayenge... Aur hum jad, wo bhi ek din, sookh ke marr gayenge beta...

Ashu: Baba... Agar main iss ghar mein aur raha, ho na ho, iss ghar mei kuch hi din mein lakeerein khich jaayengi... Saari Zindagi, main aur Rohan, ek dusre ke liye ajnabee ho jayenge baba... Wo, abhi samjh nahi raha hai... Lekin, jiss taraf ye sab chal raha hai, kal ko, ye hona tayy hai... In sab mein Ranga piss jaayega baba... Main iss ghar ke batwaare hote nahi dekh sakta... Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye... Jaisa chal raha hai, waisa chalega... Humare Lucknow ke Kotnis mein aur Cardiologists hain... Wo sab mere hisse ka sambhal hi lenge, rahi baat Nidhi ki, usko replace bhi koi kar hi lega... Toh phir main hum dono ki packing kar leta hoon... (And her turns to go)

A stern voice, stops him in his tracks... It was his Mother speaking...

Anu: Koi, kahin nahi jaayega Ashu...

Ashu( Turning towards his mother): Maa, aap samajh rahi hain ye sab phir bhi...?

An: Maine kaha Ashu, tum dono kahin nahi jaaoge... Is that clear?

As: Maa, I cannot stake Nidhi's as well as all of you'rs welfare... Hum jaa rahe hain...

An: Ashu, why don't u realise, Nidhi is pregnant... She's carrying a baby in her... Kaise adjust karegi iss naye maahaul mei... Tabiyat kharaab hogi, aur bhi bohot cheezein hongi, kaise akele handle karegi sab? Yahan toh mai thi, sab care kar leti thi... Wahan kaise karegu beta... Aur phir, Delivery, bachhe ko initially paalna, aasaan nahi hai beta...

As: I know Maa, aap kya keh rahi hain... Lekin, main hoon na maa... Main uska poora-poora khayaal rakhunga... usko koi takleef nahi hone doonga... And Hum Rampur hi toh jaa rahe hain... Apna Kotnis ki chain wahan par bhi hai... Sab ho jaayega maa... Aur aap apni tasalli ke liye beech-beech mei aake usko check bhi kar lijiyega... Theek hai... (Holding his mother's hand and squeezing a bit to make her look at him...) Theek hai na maa??? (On her nod)

LEKIN!!! Koi Rohan aur Mallika ko nahi batayega, ke hum dono kahan hain... Maa, jab unko kuch pata nahi hoga, tab niklenge Mallika ke asli rang iss ghar mein... Aur agar wo wakai sachhi nikli, toh baat apne aap sambhal jaayegi... Theek hai na maa?

An: Lekin waada karo Ashu... ke agar Mallika ghalat nikli, aur wo iss ghar se chali gayi, toh tum aur Nidhi wapas aa jaaoge iss ghar mein... Waada karo...

As: Maa, tab ki tab dekhenge... Sirf Mallika ka jaana hi kaafi nahi hai... Aur bhi kayi cheezein hain, jo sahi hona baaki honge tab bhi... Main koshish karoonga... Lekin, koi waada nahi...

Ashutosh turned to go to pack, and soon Nidhi too came along helping him do all the work... Seeing her wordlessly do her work, Ashu turned towards her, but thought not to say anything... On finishing all, he took her hands in his...

A: Nidhi, darr lag raha hai?

N: Unhuh! Bilkul nahi Ashuji... Aap jab hain mere saath, toh mujhe kis baat ka darr...?

A: Dekho Nidhi, Rampur mein Zindagi, Lucknow jitni aasaan nahi hogi... Aise aish-o-aaraam jo hum dono ne saari zindagi dekhe hain, wo utne nahi honge... Simple sa humara ek cottage hai wahan par... But still its not all accomplished with all the facilities of the city... Haalaki, I'll try and fulfil all your needs and requirements, lekin, agar chook jaaoon toh...

N(Keeping her palm on his lips): Jitna hoga, hum usmein adjust kar lenge Ashuji... Mujhe, kisi Mehel mei rehne ki zarurat nahi hai, aapka dil hi kaafi hai( Putting her head just above his heart)... Aur koi facility mile na mile, electricity ki full time supply ho na ho, aapke pyaar ki supply rehni chahiye... Khaane mei bhale hi chappan bhog na ho, but, aapke pyaar ki chatni-roti bhi chalegi... Mujhe aur kuch nahi chahiye... Aur main koshish karoongi, ke mai aapko zyada tang na karoon... ok?

A: (Puffing a Laugh) Nahi-nahi... Wo tum continue rakhna, warna aisa lagega, ke mai kisi ajnabee ladki ke saath rehne laga hoon... And mujhe paraayi aurton mein koi interest nahi hai...

N: Achha ji... Aur wo kyu?

A: Ab jiske paas aap jaisi biwi ho, usko kisi aur ki kya zarurat? Dikhaoon kya? (Tries closing in..)

N: (Pushing him aside) Kya kar rahe hain Ashuji... Phir shuru ho gaye aap...? (Then laughingly) Chalein?

Both get down the staircase, where his parents were right there in the hall... Both Ashni bent down to touch their feet...

A: Achha baba, maa... Chalte hain hum...

Alok: (Running his palm over Ashutosh's shoulder, lovingly) Jaa rahe ho beta... Jaao... Lekin jaate-jaate, ek baat zaroor kehna chaahoonga, Tu wakayi mein mera bada beta hai... Mere aur teri maa ke baad, iss ghar ko yadi kisi ne sambhaala, toh wo tuney aur Nidhi ne... Beta, jis tarah ka aadarshwadi beta mujhe mila, Main Bhagwaan se roz duaa karoonga, ke wo tujhe aur Nidhi ko bhi itni hi achhi aulaad de... Humesha sukhi rehna mere bachhon... Aur ek doosre ka dhyaan rakhna... Hum dono beech-beech mei aate rahenge... theek hai beta? (Ashu nodded... Then Alok Mathur turned towards Nidhi)

Ab tumko kya kahoon Nidhi beta... Sach kahoon, toh, mujhe bada mann karta tha, ke main apni bahu ko bahu kehke puraakoon... Aur kehta bhi hoon tumko... Lekin, Nidhi, tum humari beti ho... Aur humesha meri beti rahogi... (Then looks for a moment towards HK, who stood aside) Kitni dhoom0-dhaam se byaah ke laaye they na Hiraman isey... Aur aaj, Rukhsat dene ka waqt aa gaya... Lekin beta, mujhe aur ghar ke har sadasya ko, tum dono ke lautne ka intezaar rahega...

Bidding a teary bye, Ashni went into a cab, where their luggage was loaded too...

Ashni, went on their way to Rampur, and the elder Mathur couple inside, with shattered hearts, yet, contended, that, Both their children, Ashu n Nidhi have each other, so they will face, whatever comes their way...

Anu immediately took her cell phone, and browsed through her contact list, and called on the number...

An: Hello Dr. Vidya...

Ashutosh kept looking at Nidhi, who was simply keeping her head in his shoulders, and sleeping peacefully, with her one hand protectively kept on her abby bump... Ashutosh could not help remembering, an old number, that completely conveyed his feeling towards her, for the love and unconditional support she gave him...

Chand si mehbooba ho meri,

Kab, aisa maine soch tha,

Haan tum bilkul waisi ho,

Ashni, after their 3-4 hour Journey to Rampur, finally reached their home... The care taker of the house, Maalti and her husband, handed over their keys to them... Opening up the doors, Ashni found a neat and Tidy 4 BHK Home... Simple with decors, was a traditional UP-Rajasthani interiors, found it very fascinating...

N: Ashuji, aap bhi ajeeb hain... Aap toh keh rahe they ke aisa hai waisa hai... Kitna pyaara toh ghar hai ye... I so loved it...

A: Nidhi, actually I too found it now... Maine jab tak dekha tha, tab tak ye bilkul simple sa tha... Haan, iska interior wagairah aisa hi tha, lekin achaanak se isko itna humare hisaab se, friendly kisne aur kab karwaaya, ye mujhe nahi samajh aaya...

"Main samjhaati hoon..." Came a sweet girlish voice, that made both Ashni turn to look at... There stood a petite lady coming in from the gates... "Hi! I'm Dr. Vidya Sabde..." Ashutosh and Nidhi both shook hands with her... She continued- "Main Dr. Anu ki student rahi hoon... I'm also an OBG... And working here in Rampur for sometime in KGH... When Anu ma'am told me, about you both coming here, and your condition Dr. Nidhi, I asked the helpers here to clean and make it more friendly for you to be here... I'm your neighbour next door, You can call me, when ever you need, or I'm there at KGH...

Nidhi: Oh! Thanx a lot Dr. Vidya... I'm so glad to have you here... So you live here alone or what?

Vidya: (Smilingly) No-no... I live here with My Hubby and Two children...

Nidhi's eyes popped out with amazement... "What??? You have 2 kids already... You don't seem like, I mean, you've maintained yourself quite well... (And then sulks) And look at me... I'm growing more and more..."

Dr. Vidya puffs a laugh at her and then said- Don't worry Nidhi, you are pregnant after all, and after your delivery I may help you, if u gain any weight... is that ok?

N: Oh! Thanks a lot... But, seriously, I mean how do you maintain so well...

V: Oh! I and my husband are real fitness freaks... And so...

Ashutosh rolled his eyes at his wife's excitement, and her obsession for staying fit...

Finally, both the ladies bade bye to each other, as Dr. Vidya had her opd for the evening...

And Nidhi, lay to take some rest, while Ashutosh went in to have a look in at KGH...

At the Mathur Mansion, The elder Mathur couple, were still being tense, when, they relieved at Ashni's call, about their welfare... Relaxed hearing, that Nidhi is ok, they went on with their works...

At night, when Rohan and Mallika came, they seemed ok... Neithet cared to ask, where Ashutosh and Nidhi were... They went straight to their respective rooms stating, they had their dinner already... Although Rohan came back, to sit with his parents for a while, but, did not start the morning topic again... The mathur couple ate their dinner, while, Rohan sat with them... But, still, could not ask, where Ashni are...

In the morning, when Rohan and Mallika came out for breakfast, his parents seemed aloof... His mother without a word kept the breakfast infront of him saying not even a Good morning... Rohan found the house, unusually very quiet and morose, and could see Nidhi no where... Last night, he thought, may be they have retired to their rooms early or are out somewhere, but, they cant be out right in the morning... Finally shedding his hesitation, he asked-

R: Maa, Ashu Bhaiya aur Nidhi Bhabhi kahin dikhaayi nahi de rahe hain... Kahin gaye hue hain?

Anu Mathur, who had a dish in her hand, kept it on the table with a thud...

An: Ghar chod ke chale gaye tere Ashu bhaiya aur Nidhi bhabhi... Sirf isliye, ki tumko shaanti rahe... He left the house because of you Rohan...

Rohan who was sitting till now, stood up, his feet seemed to be shaking... His bhaiya left...

An: Aur kar apni manmaani... Karo aur badtameezi usse... Ek, kuch maheeno ki ladki ke liye, you've been misbehaving with the brother, who loved you, all your life... Iss this the way... huh!!!

"KYA!!! ASHU BHAIYA GHAR CHODKE CHALE GAYE???"- Came a yell from the door... All looked up to see, Ranga standing on the door, with a seemingly pale looking Anji... Anu ran to the door holding Anji who seems to drop any moment...

Anu: Tum dono, itni jaldi wapas aa gaye... Par kyu???

Ranga: Maa, Anji ki achaanak wahan bohot tabiyat kharaab hone lagi... N she could not enjoy anything, and was adamant on coming back home...

Khair ye baat chodiye, Ashu bhaiya kahan chale gaye? Aur kyu?

Anu: Ranga... pehle please Anji ko andar le chalo, uski tabiyat bohot kharaab lag rahi hai... Baad mei baat karte hain...

After stabalising Anji and making her comfortably sleep in her bed, Ranga came out, and heard all the story from the past few days, since he was not here... And was shocked to the core hearing, what all, Rohan said and ,Mallika did... Ranga looked for once at Rohan with Anger-filled eyes... and then at his parents... Rohan and Mallika went out, as Mallika needed some of her works to be done...

Ranga, after hearing all the behind the curtain story, of what Ashutosh thought and said... He gave a determined look to his parents...

R: Maa-baba... Bhaiya ne jo kaha-kiya, wo sahi hai, lekin, mai iss ghar ko tootne hargiz nahi doonga... I'll go and talk to him there at Rampur...

MAIN MANAAOONGA APNE BHAIYA-BHABHI KO... MAIN UNHE WAPAS LEKE AAOONGA...
