The Rajputs' origins seem to date from a great breakup of Indian society in northern and northwestern India under the impact of the Hepthalites (White Huns) and associated tribes from the mid-5th centuryce onward. Following the breakup of the Gupta empire (late 6th century), invading groups were probably integrated within the existing society, with the present pattern of northwestern Indian society being the result. Tribal leaders and nobles were accepted as Kshatriyas, the second order of the Hindus, while their followers entered the fourth (Sudra, or cultivating) order to form the basis of tribal castes, such as the Jats, the Gujars, and the Ahirs. Some of the invaders' priests became Brahmins(the highest-ranking caste). Some indigenous tribes also attained Rajput status, such as the Rathors of Rajasthan and theChandelas, Paramaras, and Bundelas of central India. Rajput ancestry can be divided between Suryavanshi ("House of the Sun," or Solar people), or those descended from Ram, the hero of the epicRamayana; and Chandravanshi ("House of the Moon," or Lunar people), or those descended fromKrishna, the hero of the epic Mhabhrat. A third group, Agnikula ("Family of the Fire God"), is the group from which the Rajputs derive their claim to be Kshatriyas. Rajput habits of eating meat (except beef) and other traits suggest both foreign and aboriginal origins.

Rajputs are essentially high "class" warrior who were the rulers of Rajputana & most royal households in R'thaan today are Rajput. Maarwaaris & other Raajisthaanis are mainly involved in trade & commerce & are generally, rich- very rich people.

Lol, who said all kshatriyas are vegetarians? I am a descendant of this warrior class, and my family have aristocrat background. Kshatriyas are like the biggest mutton lover though I hate it. My family is proof. I could never live with out my chicken and sea food.

Well Rajputs are essentially a meat eating warrior caste. I know, because I am Rajput. I found it very strange in the movie when they showed Jodha to be vegetarian but I reckon that was a bit of creative license they took in alignment to Jodha's love for animals & non violence & dislike for Akbar's love of hunting. I don't know about the Jodha in the serial. She must be or someone in her family must be otherwise she couldn't have picked that oily tandoori chicken with such ease. Maybe she isn't a non vegetarian personally?

TFS the info.😊
