Chennai Express or OUATIMD; who stole the thunder?

Mumbai Mirror | Aug 7, 2013, 12.00 AM IST

'Chennai Express' or 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobara'; whose promotional blitzkrieg steals the thunder? We give you the stats:

The trailer launch
The trailer of Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobara was unveiled on May 29 and the venue harked back to the Mumbai of the 1970s withImran Khan and Akshay Kumar making dramatic entries in vintage vehicles.

Chennai Express' first promo was premeired on June 13 and for the occasion a Wadala multiplex was revamped with a custom-made bogey and the film's lead pair Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan entertained the media with their antics.

Playing musical chairs
In July, the SRK-starrer chose to go for a mega music launch which involved an energeticperformance by the leading duo; while the makers of OUATIMD tied up with a leading multiplex chain to ensure that their new property was launched by Akshay Kumar, with posters of the film, and a "special message" by the leading man precluding all movie screenings.

The TV appearances
Then began the routine of dropping by on the idiot box. Soon after the music launch of their film SRK and Dippy became reality TV regulars, with Shah Rukh kissing Madhuri on Jhalak Dikhla Ja, making contestants blush on DID Supermoms, and getting ribbed on Comedy Nights with Kapil. OUATIMD went a step ahead, and instead of making sporadic appearances, producer Ekta Kapoor booked a slot on a leading channel (at a reported cost of Rs 2 crore) where a special episode relating to the film is expected to air.

Special stunts
Close to the latter half of July, SRK launched a Chennai Express game whereas Ekta Kapoor planted eunuchs in Mumbai locals to croon Tayyab Ali--a song launched in Dongri slums. While SRK's troupe was busy on a UK tour, the OUATIMD trio capitalised on Ramzan and distributed sweets at Mohammed Ali Road.

Never thought I would say this.. but I hope CE disappoints even the fans of SRK! Because of this shitty film I won't be able to watch the film I've been waiting for since about 1.5 yrs, OUATIMD, in the cinema

Well the only cinema that plays Bollywood films here was supposed to play OUATIMD.. until they changed the release date because of CE. Now they're gonna keep running CE for two weeks and no OUATIMD :(
