Doctor's opinion- It's OK to get chickenpox as a child- it builds up more immunity as compared to the vaccine(proven by case studies). Chickenpox intensifies as you get older, ie an adult contracting the disease will have more complications than a child. So ideally, adults who have never had chickenpox before (like you were) , should get immunized. But it's perfectly OK for a child to have it, they'll develop life long immunity that way. That's not to say you shouldn't take your kids to a doctor or that it's God's wrath (They call it choti mayi or something like that in North India). But all you can do is give them tablets or an ointment to prevent itching, prescribe nutritious food (non-veg is allowed, unlike what our grandparents believe), and yes, you MUST isolate the kids/patient - it spreads to all other people whether they touch them or not within 2 weeks, if not previously immunized. The problem with vaccination is that it's very expensive- it' s 5000 rs for the course of 3 vaccines, while most of us may be able to afford it, a lot of people can't.
