Part 30
Arjun was about to get back in the SUV and wait out the night when he felt Priya's gaze on him. He looked up at her window and sure enough she was standing there watching him. He couldn't read her expression from afar but he sensed her pain.
Her words echoed in his mind. "I don't have anything left to give to anyone. I would only end up being a burden in any relationship."
What are you hiding from me Priya? He asked with his eyes as he turned and leaned against the SUV.
Ek Din ..Ek Din Teri Raahon
Baahoon Mein Panaahon Mein
Aungaa Khojaunga
Ek Din Tera Ho Jaunga
Yeh Dil To Na Keh Yeh Baatein
Dil To Na Keh Saka
Dil To Na Keh Saka
Arjun knew she wouldn't be able to read his expression from far away yet he couldn't help but cross his legs at the ankles and relax against the SUV to show her that he was not going anywhere. He let everything go and let his feelings show on his face and in his eyes.
Tu Jaane Na Tu
Chaahat Meri Kitni Betaab Hai
Ho Jo Barso Meri Palkon Mein Tha
Tu Wohi Khwaab Hai
Har Ghadi Har Ghadi Yaadoon Mein
Vaadon Mein Iradon Mein
Aungaa Khojaunga
Ek Din Tera Ho Jaunga
Yeh Dil To Na Keh Yeh Baatein
Dil To Na Keh Saka
Dil To Na Keh Saka
Priya had no control over her heart or her emotions anymore. She couldn't help but go back to her room to get another glimpse of him. She had meant to only catch one glimpse then move back but one look and she froze in the spot. Before she could move he looked up at her window and saw her watching him.
Try as she might she couldn't pull away from the power of his dark eyes even from a great distance between them. It was as if he was trying to communicate something important with those potent eyes. She had never been able to resist him anything when he used those eyes to talk her into things.
She remembered Sam joking about Arjun making criminals sing like a bird with just one fierce look with those eyes and at the time she remembered thinking not just the criminal but any girl he wanted also. God knows she had never been able to resist him when he had used that intense look on her.
Another memory flashed in her mind, which immediately made her lower her lashes and break away from his gaze. She turned away from him and leaned against her bedroom wall so that she is not tempted to look back at him.
Yeh Jhukti Nazar
Jaane Jigar Hosh Lejati Hai
Mein Kaise Kahon
Ek Ajnabi Dard Dejati Hai
Chupke Se Chupke Se Teri Neeedon Mein
Khwaabon Mein Khayalon Mein
Chaaunga Khojunga
Ek Din Tera Ho Jaunga..
Arjun saw Priya break their eye contact then turn away form him. This further made him realize that he was still missing some pieces of the puzzle. Something or someone had hurt her badly and he needed to figure out what that was before she erects stronger walls between them.
He saw the light in her room go off and finally moved to sit in the SUV. He reclined the seat and leaned his head against the headrest as he continued to look up at her window.
Ek Din ..Ek Din Teri Raahon
Baahoon Mein Panaahon Mein
Aungaa Khojaunga
Ek Din Tera Ho Jaunga
Yeh Dil To Na Keh Yeh Baatein
Dil To Na Keh Saka
Priya waited few minutes after she shut the light off then peeped out the window to make sure he wasn't standing there anymore before going to bed to lie down. She tried her best to relax but the fear of the nightmares and the ongoing tug of war in her heart kept her from closing her eyes to get badly needed sleep.
Next morning Priya woke up with gritty eyes and a slight headache. She had dosed off to sleep at intervals but kept waking up before she went into deep sleep. She freshened up then picked up her phone and walked towards the window.
Arjun sat up suddenly when his phone started ringing loudly; he looked around then picked up his phone when he saw Priya's name flash in the caller ID. "Good morning!" he said then stretched a bit to relax his stiff limbs.
He sighed when he heard the silence at the other hand and noted her hesitance. "What's wrong Priya?" He asked.
Priya strengthened her resolve and spoke with the confidence that she was far from feeling at the moment. "Nothing, I just wanted to see if you wanted to come up and freshen up and have breakfast before we head off to ETF."
"I will be right up," Arjun said as he grabbed his bag from the back seat and got out of the SUV.
Priya just shook her head then hung up the phone before heading to kitchen to start breakfast. She put the teakettle on the stove then went to open the front door for Arjun.
Arjun hadn't wasted any time in case she changed her mind about inviting him again so he arrived at the door just as she opened the door. He frowned when he saw the dark circles under her eyes and realized even knowing he was not too far she hadn't slept well. He hoped that this trip would help her relax and catch up on much needed rest.
Priya was not at all surprised to see the bag and his hand. He had always believed in being prepared for anything. She opened the door wider to let him then headed towards the kitchen. "You already know where the bathroom is so make yourself at home, come to the kitchen when you finish." She said to him as she walked away.
Thirty minutes later Arjun came into the kitchen just as Priya put his tea and breakfast on the table. Arjun smiled his appreciation and grabbed the tea. "Thanks so much for this, I really needed it." He said as he took a sip of the hot tea.
Priya gestured for him to sit. "You should have gone home last night." She said as she started eating.
Arjun ignored her and spooned the delicious smelling food. He sighed as soon as he tasted the food. "Your cooking always reminds me of my mom." He said without thinking.
Priya gave him a skeptical look, "I doubt I am that good of a cook."
"You will see when we go there." He said without looking up.
Priya's fingers tightened around the spoon when he mentioned going to his home. She needed to tell him her plans now before it's too late.
"Actually I was thinking about staying at my parent's house." She said quietly and kept looking down at her food.
Arjun's head snapped up and he looked at her with pain in his eyes but she wasn't looking at him. "Your parent's home?" He asked slowly.
Priya avoided looking at him. "Yeah, my parent's home. It's been in a trust since their death, I am thinking about putting it in another trust for orphanage. It's no use to me."
Arjun couldn't help but think that the house is just an excuse to avoid staying at his parent's home but nor could he call her on it since she doesn't know that he knows what had happened during the investigation.
Arjun pushed his plate away, "I see, and what will you tell Swati and Sam?" He asked as she stood up to clear the table.
Priya paused then shrugged. "Swati is a big girl Arjun and she understands that I need to do this. Besides Sam will be right beside her and this is her time to get to know your family and for your family to get to know her, after all this is the only in laws she will have."
"In other words you think you will be in the way of all those getting to know sessions?" Arjun asked as he picked up some dishes from the table to help her clean up.
Priya made a face at him. "I just think I don't need to be there to complicate things." She realized what she said and immediately corrected herself. "I mean it's best if she does this on her own."
"It isn't just about Sam and Swati's engagement Priya, there is a matter of you safety also." Arjun said getting annoyed by yet another wall she was trying to build between the two of them. "Sikandar could take advantage this."
"And that is another good reason for me to stay away from your family. At least I wouldn't have to worry about him hurting innocent lives." Priya said and thanked him silently for giving her another reason to stay away from his home.
Arjun's jaw's clenched in frustration at her selflessness. He wanted to put his fist thru the wall in defeat but he held back because he knew his anger wouldn't help the situation at all. If he pushed her more she will only push back much more. He hoped that Swati and Sam manages to knock some sense into Priya's hard head or else he will be spending lot nights in his car outside of her Delhi home.
At the ETF office Swati hopped on one foot to the next impatiently as she looked out the window and waited for Priya to arrive so she could share the news about her and Sam's marriage.
Sameer saw her fidget yet again and smiled in amusement at her excitement. "Relax Swati, Priya will be arriving soon."
Swati glared at him. "I wouldn't be so impatient if you had let me call her last night to tell her. I bet she will come in dressed in her work clothes too." She said as she perched herself on the armrest of Sameer's chair.
Sameer closed the file he was reading and pulled Swati on to his lap. "It wouldn't have been fun sharing the news with her over the phone." He nuzzled her neck to distract her.
Swati wrapped her arms around Sameer's neck and closed her eyes when she felt him kiss her pulse point lightly. She jumped from his lap when she realized he was distracting her and his office door was wide open.
She placed her hands on her hips and glared at him mockingly. "Sameer Rathore, shame on you. What if someone had come in unannounced?" Her lips twitched at his wink but she didn't give in and moved back to the window.
Arjun and Priya had just pulled in and soon as she saw Arjun's resigned and Priya's blank expression Swati knew something had happened between them.
"Uh..oh" she muttered under her breath. Sameer joined her at the window. "What happened?" He asked as he placed an arm around her.
"Looks like something has happened between the two of them, judging by the expressions on their faces." Swati said with sadness.
Sameer pecked her lightly on the forehead then turned her towards the door to wait for Arjun and Priya. "You know things won't be easy so why feel sad?"
Swati nodded but didn't give a reply to his question. As soon as Priya and Arjun arrived in Sameer's office Swati dragged Priya away from there.
Once in Priya's office, Swati came straight to the point. "Okay spill it, tell me what is going on between you and Arjun."
Priya rolled her eyes at Swati and headed towards her desk. "There is nothing going on between me and Arjun."
Swati placed her hands on her hips and glared at her best friend. "This is me you are talking to Priya, you can't hide anything from me. Now are you going to tell me or should I go ask him?" She waited for Priya to relent.
Priya bypassed her desk and headed for the lone window in her office. She sensed Swati's presence beside her so she started talking and told her best friend everything that had happened in the past few days.

Sorry I am stopping here, but I need to work on Priya and Swati's conversation. I will try to give a longer update next time.
Please forgive any errors, I didn't get another chance to proof read this.
