Dressed in a white shirt and blue pants with a blue blazer, Viren laughed while chasing a boy of his age. It was the first day of their school after vacations which thrilled him to no end and after morning assembly, he had a rather loud reunion with his friends with all the yelling and hugs and curses they hurled at each other.

He was still chasing his friend while running after him in the school corridors when he bumped into someone suddenly and immediately felt a sharp pain at the back of his head as a rather big, hard book hit him.

He fell on the floor on his back as more books came in his direction hitting him again and again making him yelp in pain again and again. Soon as the books stopped falling on him, he opened his eyes and looked up to see a girl in school dress, looking down at the mess of books that was scatted all over around them on the floor.

Her long hairs were tied in two cute pigtails; she was still looking down, covering her open mouth with her palms in shock while sitting opposite to him on the floor.

"Are you blind?" Viren growled at her, messaging the back of his head with his hand.

He blinked in wonder as the girl looked up at him with her big wide chocolate brown eyes which were brimming with tears. He saw her opening her mouth and closing it without saying anything. She shook her head and started gathering the books in her hands.

Feeling very furious, Viren stood up and yelled again "Didn't you heard what I said? Are you deaf too?"

Her body shook a bit at his rather loud and rude tone making him aware that he was scaring her. In fact, it was his fault at first place as he was running without actually watching his way ahead. Kicking himself mentally for being such a jerk, he kneeled down and started gathering books for her. As they both raised their hand to grab the same book, their hands lightly brushed against each other making them feel a bit strange.

Viren looked up at her and their eyes met for a mere second before she looked away withdrawing her hand away from the book. Handing her all the books, he mumbled not really looking at her "Sorry for yelling at you earlier."

He would have missed her giving him a bright smile if he wouldn't have glanced at her. Instinctively, a small smile touched his lips as he stared at her.

"Oye Viren, kahan reh gaya yaar?" He heard his friend calling out for him and stood up immediately. He ran away from there and looked back at her over his shoulder as he turned to other corridor. His heart raced as his eyes met hers again before he entered inside his class.

Next day as Viren went to the hall for morning assembly, he again saw that girl standing alone. Feeling curious, he joined her and said "Hi!!"

The girl looked up at him startled but when she saw him, she relaxed down a bit and smiled at him. Feeling really curious, he said "can't you really speak at all?"

Before she could answer, the bell rang off signaling the start of morning assembly and she ran away towards the stage. Viren kept looking at her for the first time really concentrating on what happens during morning assembly. His friends kept poking at his back but he didn't looked back. Soon the music started playing and as usual, a melodious voice rang in the air singing the prayer. Viren saw the same girl singing the prayer and smiled before closing his eyes.

"So you can speak." Viren said, walking beside the girl after the morning assembly. The girl smiled and spoke "Yeah I can."

"Your voice is really very sweet." Viren complemented her as they walked towards their respective classes.

"Thank you." She replied smiling up at him.

"So why didn't you spoke earlier when I was talking to you?"

"I was scared."

"Scared?? As in, scared of me?" Raising his eyebrow, Viren questioned.

"Of course, who cannot be scared of you? Viren Sood, the head boy and topper of your batch always surrounded by girls who drool on your handsome face but you never look back at them and always stay with your friends."

"Uh-huh not bad. You know almost everything about me. Don't tell me you are one of those girls?" Viren's eyes twinkled in mischief as he spoke.

"Unluckily, I am not one of them. I belong to the group who like you for your performance in exams." She chuckled.

"And I am so impressed to hear that. So friends?" Viren brought his hand forward, smiling down at her genuinely.

Shaking her hand with his, she smiled and walked towards her classroom. Feeling happy, Viren too started going towards his classroom when he remembered something and turned back. He yelled "Oh hello?"

She looked back at him with her wide eyes questioning him silently.

"What's your name?"

"Nivedita." She chuckled shaking her head at his craziness and entered inside, making him scratch his head absent-mindedly while grinning.

And that's how they became friends. Whenever they saw each other, they smiled and waved at each other. One day or another, they talked to each other gradually becoming close to each other. What Viren didn't understood was he never wanted her friendship, he wanted her love.

He loved her for her shy glances at him.

He loved her for her innocence.

He loved her for her heart-killing smile.

He was in love with Nivedita.
