I did not want to comment on the salary issue. But I'd now say this is not an issue of gender equality here. Mohit Raina is more experienced than Sonarika in the entertainment industry in general and has been in the show for longer than her plus he plays the title role. So he's bound to get more money.

Experience does influence how actors are paid. For eg., Pran saab was paid three times more than Amitabh Bachchan for Don even though he did not have a big role and Amitabh was playng a double role, was main lead and had also become superstar by then. Even Vinod Khanna was paid more than Amitabh for Hera Pheri because VK was senior to him in industry.

It is not always about gender. Neither is this issue about equality between Mahadev and Adishakti. Actors get paid for what they do and what they represent in terms of experience and stature.

Sonarika had every right to demand an increment in her salary but needed to be careful and reasonable in her demands since she is still new in the industry and had just completed a year in DKDM. Equal pay on par with other lead does not happen like this so soon (I am saying this on basis of rumours and arguments flowing here. I don't know if she actually demanded pay equal to MR's!).

Issue of gender is not the concern here.

She has stated that she wanted to quit and when discussed it was decided they will give her a raise or fooled her to think like that when they where searching for a new face to replace her.
PH is saying she asked for an unheard of raise. I would like to give Sonarika some credit I don't think for a newcomer and a 20 year old she will demand a 200% hike which was stated by some article.
I just think the whole matter would have been settled in a more amicable fashion because she was looking to leave the show and the makers could have just settled for that and not told her to stick on and lie about replacement till the very last minute.

So many discussions and debates going on but everybody has the right to move on I they feel they don't have growth in the current situation they are in.

If the role is getting stagnant than the motivation will be pay but if neither is getting u enthusiastic than better to move on.
I would not like to believe like some people she was only keen on pay she must have also had concerns over her role which was not going anywhere.

If u look at Mohit he has no reason to leave the show everything revolves around him he is getting full opportunity to explore his acting in this show.
If he leaves it will be ridiculous because he will never get such an opportunity in films. So it was good of him to decline the movie offer.
But same is not the case of Sonarika as a viewer when I used to see her role I used to feel at times that she is getting wasted in the role and had nothing great to do apart from stand and smile recently.

If the show gave her fame I am sure she is not ungrateful but it is a job for them if it is not giving u creative satisfaction it is time to move on.
