PART 58
Every event was only making her drowning in a heart aching pool reality. She didn't know what he eats, what he wears, what does she know? She questioned herself.
She set the table not realizing Dev had already laid it waiting for them.
Dev ' mama yeh aap kya kar rahen ho?
Geet ' table.. she stopped looking at the table all set.
She smiled weakly.
Maan came down discussing an important issue on the call.
Yes Joe, I will be there in 45mins.
the reports r all ready,
yes even the analysis is completed
he finsihed the call just before settling on the table.
He took his bowl & began to pour the cereal
geet ' aap parata lijiyein
she spoke immediately placing the plate infront of him. Accidentally hitting the jar of milk that was in his hand, pouring the whole milk from the jar on his shirt. She panicked & chewed her pallu almost in tears. Main tho sirf aap ko paraten
He glared at her standing up away from the mess
Her lashes fluttered innocently ' main saaf kardeti hoon
reaching his shirt trying to wipe it
he held her hand away ' geet geet
she was so tensed & nervous millions of thoughts were playing in her mind. It was not this isolated incident that was making her guilty it was her remorse, her own unexplainable actions in past added to this was a blunder for her.
Maan was already running late for the meeting & now he had to change his shirt, he was irritated
he squeezed her wrist to make her not over react. He held her away that hurt her even more
now u don't even like me touching u she spoke out in outburst of tears
Maan left her wrist instantly & went up to change not registering her anguish.
For him it was just an isolated incident. It was nothing to be mad at or get upset about. He had to step away not to lose his head & say something to her in his stressed state of mind. He had that office thing going in his mind.
He just checked the file again after changing his shirt & rushed out.
Geet couldn't stop her cry but tried to muffle it infront of Dev who was watching his mom being so different today. She yet again gave a weak smile
dev rolled his eyes ' mama relax its just a milk
tears again began to flow, like she wanted to complain, wanted to cry like a baby, tell him see its just a milk still Maan is so mad at her. When even deep down she knew Maan would have reacted like this anyway. But for her right now seeing Maan slightest of angry was felt deep like ten times deeper may be more.
& just then Maan rushed back in & placed a peck on her cheek
I think this shirt is looking better
she looked at him in awe. As he said good bye to Dev with a wink.
She was blushing.. really blushing all pink red.. all the shades possible.
Her heart was jumping in joy feeling so light suddenly.
Dev laughed loud seeing her grin like that, with all tears set to drip.
Geet felt conscious with that teasey look in his eyes ' chup chaap kana khavoo she commanded
dev muffled his laughter nibbling down the yummy paratas.
The day was full of masti as they had planned. Mother & son spend a quality time together in a beach near by. They went out for lunch to exotic place in the mall. While having the lunch geet very reluctantly asked dev
geet ' u think dad & me r lacking
dev ' no mom, not at all? U guys make a wonderful couple
Geet felt really happy. For her Dev's words meant a lot.
Geet was still not convinced with his answer though his prompt defensive tone was so promising.
Geet ' then why did u say all that yesterday
dev rolled his eyes ' wo tho aisen hi mama
geet was taken back ' wat do u mean?
She spoke little irritated
dev whipped his mouth with the napkin & looked at his mom who looked really hassled.
He sighed ' mama I was just saying ki I don't want an arrange marriage like urs & dads. I am not saying ur wrong or anything. U both r so beautiful perfect. Dad really takes care of u so much
geet snapped back ' I too care for him
Dev came around her & sat next to her ' u do. But dad loves u more. Because u love me more he spoke with a winning smile.
Geet felt at lost ' tumhe sach main lagta hain I don't take care of Maan
dev ' I didn't mean that mom. Wat I meant was u guys superbly balance it out.
From Devs point of view his parents r wonderful couple. They sweetly compliment each other. Geet takes complete care of Dev & Maan takes complete care of Geet. Kind of a complete circle. Just that his dad seems very strong & independent man. Manages his things by himself.
Dev looks up at the him & can't live with out his mama who showers him with all the love & attention.
After the lunch they came back home. Dev went into his room & Geet went to her room. She took the picture albums out, she didn't know why. She couldn't understand nor remember, yet there was an unsettling intuition of a discovery to be made. And so she took those pictures out, all by herself in the room..and she looked at the first one she found and her heart tripped.. and a small fear settled deep inside her which she tried to deny.. she looked at another one, and another, until she looked at them all spread around her.. desperately, and quickly, and slowly and lovingly, all at once, but hungrily. yes, hungrily. tears refused to abate... she had only ever seen half of each picture. whimpers escaped her, as she looked at them all anew.
The ache inside was incapacitating ,as she looked at how her husband lived through the years.. so many years. She couldn't keep the pictures aside. none of them. She frantically caressed them all, she pressed them to her heart, and kissed them.. she wanted to run back , back in time to him.. she wanted to see and live with this man .. she wanted to have him and know and treasure his entirety.. she wanted to claim him all for herself ,like she never did. she wanted.. oh she so wanted ..to do all that, and more. so much more. her heart twisted and turned from the urge, from her love , from his love.
she cried and cried.. as she waited for him.
and suddenly his face appeared in front of her.. she opened her eyes abruptly and took a shuddering breath, as she soaked in the only thing she remembered of him through all these years.
Late afternoon light streaming in from the windows, and she hurrying to get Dev to eat a light snack before he went out for his evening soccer, and there she would turn and he'd be sitting by the island ,just back from the office, his hair slightly tousled, the top buttons of his shirt open, with a mug of coffee and the day's mail in his hands, as he would lean on the island with a smile on his face, warmly looking at her.. ' a sob wrung from her body died in her throat..' looking at her, waiting.'
'always , waiting.'
That was all she could scrape from her memory, from those years and years with him when she had laughed and cried , and danced and complained..
That face , those eyes , from countless afternoons, when she may have simply turned back from him , back to her own world, with the warmth of his love , unacknowledged ..ignored.
she looked down at what she had been holding tightly glued to her lips.. a picture, it was wet from her tears, and creased , and almost broken from how hard she held it in both her hands.
It was one she had blindly picked , one , of him alone. as he seemed to be looking away at something fondly. She looked at him , she wanted to reach in there and stroke his hair, .. her palms itched to take his face in them .. she wanted to turn him slowly to look into her own eyes.. not at the shadow of a woman far off, playing with her son.
she looked jealously .. and brokenly, .. almost crippled from his loneliness, and from the force of something in her that belonged only to him. She wanted him , fiercely and tenderly .. those eyes, his hands, his skin, her body cried out in anguish. Lust as she had never imagined seized her , lust to possess all of him .. she shivered , just as she heard his car return.
