The night sky outside lit with thunder light,and the house shook with thunder sound cracking the sky apart,as Prithvi thought about the letter..He felt like a tragic hero from a movie,whose destiny had bound him into doing something that he was most reluctant to do..The more he tried to delay facing his fate,the more his fate pulled him back to force his duty upon him..

The legal notice today was a good enough example of Madam Fate,interfering in his life..Prithvi frowned in irritation,and closed his eyes,leaning back and letting out a long sigh..The legal notice..

Why did it have to come so early?!Prithvi thought with frustration.

The content of the notice was just a warning that,his duties had to be fulfilled within the 15^th of next month,or legally he would lose all his properties and also Khanna industries to the charity..

The loss would not have mattered to Prithvi,but for the promise he had made to his father..Money had never been his priority now or any other time..As Prithvi knew he had his own personal nest egg which was ample for him to start from the scratch,and rebuild his business empire..But Prithvi Khana the unrelenting and famous business tycoon had been forced to give in to a legal blackmail by his cunning grandfather,just because of the promise he had made to his dying father..

Prithvi's father Rajeev Khanna,though had been out of touch with his father,had built up his business empire making Rajveer owner of 80% of the company's share..And the old man had made a will,in which he had declared Prithvi the legal heir of all his properties and company's share,only on the condition,that Prithvi fulfilled his family duty,within 1 month of his 27^th birthday..

The cunning old man had planned it well,Prithvi thought grimly,but Prithvi would not have been trapped in this if he had not made that promise..To his dying father..Prithvi thought for the upteempth time...

Prithvi groaned aloud in frustration...

15^th of June..That meant he had less than 3 weeks to fulfill the promise..Or else he would lose everything..Even his mental peace of making his father's departed soul happy..He had to make his move fast..

Quickly he got up and took out his suitcase..Opening it,he took out the file containing the documents that were all a proof of his grandfather's blackmail,and then he took out the wretched envelop containing his grandfather's last letter to him..

Prithvi sat on his bed and flicked on his bedside lamp..And with careful hand he reopened the paper,that was a clue to this mystery..The mystery of his ancestral duty..Like the first letter,this letter was also vague and said very little..The words were also brisk matching his grandfather's temperament..

Letting out a long sigh,Prithvi smoothed the letter fully open,and started re-reading it,with a vague hope,that he had missed out some clue earlier..Missed out a word..?A sign..?A hidden meaning..?Calming his nerves,Prithvi started reading..

My grandson,Prithvi Khanna,

By now you must have received the legal notice and documents and must be hating me for trapping you into this..But this step was necessary,to make you fulfill your duty fast.. Prithvi folded back the letter and sighed out in frustration and irritation again..The willy old man,had not said anything else..The only clue Prithvi had found was,Panditji..GOD'S MOST DEVOTED FOLLOWER must surely be Panditji he had concluded,the old Pandit had known his grandfather well too.

What is this curse about?!Prithvi thought,lying down on his bed,after he safely put away the letter and the files back in his suitcase,safely locked.I hate thinking that my life has been trapped by a willy superstitious old man,who first tried to blackmail my dad,and now has blackmailed me into breaking a Goddamn curse..In which I don't even believe!Thought Prithvi,cursing loudly in his frustration..

Witchcrafts and curse were things of fairytales and stories!!!WHO believed in them in this time and age?!Apparently these villagers still do!Prithvi recalled the angry villagers with irritation..

So much to do..And so little time...Thought Prithvi as he drifted off to sleep...

Meera sat impatiently looking around,in the mandir with her mother,as the Panditji read from Bhagavad Gita,and explained its significance to the avid listening mass of village women..She had not wanted to come here,but her mother had forcefully brought her over,scolding her some more for growing up now.

The kids will be waiting for me!Meera thought impatiently..Why did it have to be this morning,when I had promised to be somewhere else?!She thought in frustration..As she looked around impatiently...

As the Panditji went on with his recitation,Meera finally decided to escape unseen by her mother..

Sorry Bhagwanji!You know how much I love you?!But please forgive my sin today?You know the kids must be waiting for me..And didn't You say,Bhagwanji,that children are Your reflection?!So please forgive me?!Saying this silent prayer,Meera peeped a look at her mother and her Kalki kaki,who were sitting at the front,completely engrossed in the recitation..

Stealthily she crawled backwards,and finally she was on the top steps of the mandir..

Thank you Bhagwanji!I got out without a hitch!I promise I'll make it up to You!She prayed closing her eyes again..And with this prayer she ran down the long staircase of the mandir,frequently looking up to ensure,she was not being noticed by anyone..And on the last step,her foot slipped,and with a small yelp she fell down,right into the embrace of a pair of strong arms that held her safely,with her face resting on a broad and wide chest...

Does this mean Prithvi is supposed to stay single all his life? That is the impression I got. and then I read Meera's (humri forum wali Meera 😊) comment and got confused.
