History repeats itself?
Dugbaa, the daughter of the house had to bear the brunt of VC and LN's decisions for no fault of hers and her marriage was called off at the last minute on the mandap. Then, she had an unhappy marriage. Now, similar situation is cut-out for Kumud again. In the novel or the movie which closely followed the original, this scenario was not there. Will things be different for Kumud in the long run? It has to, isn't it? I guess the character of Dugbaa was created to show this contrast and bring a difference to the story of Kumud.
I liked the movie very much where Saras was completely idealistic and had utopian ideals. This Saras is very likeable too. He is more realistic, has flaws, takes responsibilities like its so easy and is humane.
That said, I didn't read the original novel. In the movie he writes to Kumud about not being able to be there for her. Here, they have committed to each other verbally and otherwise. There is much more at stake in their relationship. There is a lot of commitment socially too with the engagement and all. So, Kumud's heart-break in this show is much more huge than what Kumud of the movie went through. Social stigma too is huge.
The turnaround in their lives after the heartbreaks and misfortunes is what can be the USP of the show. Rather than being regressive(The novel and movie were very much in tune with the times), I hope they show the challenge that VidyaChatur referred to(yeh dono har riwaz tod ke rakhenge).
This Saras and Kumud are truly soul-mates and this phase is too sad but interesting.

well said.. I have written something similar in my post today.. I haven't read the novel or watched the movie either.. I might find it difficult to connect to the novel, specially Saras' characterisation, more because of the ideologies on which it was based than the time.. It seems to me that the novel was more about Saras' journey than the love story, which is why the novel was named Saraswatichandra.. Movies have a time restriction, so I don't know how much of the script was dedicated to the build up of the whole love relationship.. here, its different.. the characters have been modified.. Saras is more flawed and humane..Kumud is stronger yet vulnerable.. VC's dialogue in the beginning of the show where he said ''ye dono milke saare niyam badal denge'' had struck me too.. The emphasis given on Dukhba's character in the show ..hailing her as a strong woman who fights all odds to protect her loved ones..is an inspiration.. Not only the strength of the character but also the ability to sustain and not succumb to circumstances, are things that stand out in her.. Kumud, in the show is very similar to her..the vulnerability that is evident in her now days is perhaps to keep the character in line with the upcoming heartbreak.. I agree, Dukhba's character has a huge significance in the show..

You are right.. in the show, unlike the movie ( can't comment on the novel, since I haven't read it ) the emphasis on the build up of the love story has been significantly huge.. they have been shown to commit to each other plenty of times after the confession.. almost like unknowingly and subconsciously preparing each other for the troubled times ahead.. I heard that in the novel too they were engaged to be married before the break up.. here they have had a virtual marriage too, exchanging garlands, haldi, mehendi and then the consummation.. so yes, stakes are huge here.. which is gonna make this phase all the more interesting.

I really like the way u write nd express ur thoughts it's simply amazing! I myself haven't read the novel either never knew it was even based on a novel...I agree that they have been really close which each other after their confessions nd the directors will have to unite samud because if they don't they are going to loose a lot of its popularity! I have made a post about Saras please if u have time do check it out!

Very nice and thoughtful discussion.

Hope, neither the novel nor the movie will be followed.

I have not watched the movie but so far I have heard,

it more or less follows the novel and is a tragedy.

Yes, the commitment here is quite high(vs the movie). Lets wait and see.
In the movie, there was a lot lack of communication. Saras's whereabouts are not known for a while. Then he ends up in Kumud's FIL's office as an employee.
Here, Danny and Kumari are in the loop. So, lack of communication is out of question. Also, in this era of SMSes, Skypes and mobiles, its not easy to lose track.
I feel they have to show turnaround in Kumud's fortunes somehow -to contrast with Dugbaa's life. Anth meetha tho sab kuchh meetha.
