CHAPTER 7
Geet winced and fought hard to maintain her composure. The man she wanted to avoid like hell, was here, standing in front of her, asking questions in his ever-demanding voice.
She could easily remember the last time they had been together, it was as the those things had happened seconds ago and not like they had taken place years back. She knew, whatever Maan did and the game he wanted to play with her emotions, the way he wanted to break her image in front of the entire world had all gone in vain in past and was sure he would try to do the same again. But no, she would not let him play with her yet again. She knew, he was madly absorbed in his revenge, but had never thought in her wildest dreams that the Maan, she had once loved could stoop so low to make her repay for her misdeed.
Thinking about all this, Geet composed herself, not giving any chance to Maan to put her down. 'That's none of your business Mr. Khurana.' Fire flashed in her eyes as she spoke.
Maan folded his arms across his chest. 'What's my business and what's not, should not be on your concern-list, Ms. Handa. But what you're doing here is my top-most priority.' He arched a brow and his face tighten. ' As you can see, the party has been organized for the rare rich class of the country, and I don't think you're a part of us.' He spoke bitterly, eyeing her attire.
Yet again the girl was not dressed in her own clothes, he could guess by the ill-fit clothing and shoes, but still managed to look beautiful and sexy. The other woman in the hall, were nothing compared this magnificence.
Was she here, yet again, to try her old methods, to get hold-off some rich brat, with her innocent look, who could look after her expenses?
Maan's fists tighten at the thought.
Geet felt sick. This was so much worse than she's feared. Firstly she'd never imagined another encounter with Maan Singh Khurana, and if somehow, their paths would have crossed, she'd naively imagined it to be so bad.
Suddenly Maan cast a quick glance around them and took Geet's arm in one big hand and dragged her to the other side of the room before she knew and could respond to his act. His face was lean and stark with displeasure and anger.
Geet yanked herself free and rubbed her arm, where the pressure by his fingers was clearly visible as red patches. 'How dare you misbehave with me?'
'I've asked you once already- what are you doing here, Geet? You're not welcome.' The mere thought of her with somebody else, even after the game she'd played with him, was enough to drive Maan mad.
Geet felt her anger surge up at his sheer arrogance and remembered why she was there and what was at stake- somebody's livelihood. She took a step forward to answer Maan's question. But before she could open her mouth, her ears caught the familiar sound, which pushed her anger to some remote place.
'Is there a problem here?'
Geet and Maan heard a deep masculine voice. Before Maan could even turn and wrath that person for interrupting them, Geet spoke, 'No. Nothing Kabeer.' She stepped towards Kabeer and took hold of his hand, which didn't go unnoticed by Maan. 'I was about to slip and this gentleman here just helped me out.' She spoke smilingly. The last thing she wanted was Kabeer to fight with the rich- brat Khurana and spoiling his image in front of the people they were here to meet.
Kabeer smiled at her and was assured by her response. He forwarded his hand to Maan in order to greet and thank him for his act.
'Thankyou so much Sir, for your help. You see, the ladyt standing beside me, has a very important place in my life and it would be disheartening to see her in any kind of pain.' He spoke politely and shook his hands with Maan. 'By the way I'm Kabeer Rathode.' He smiled introducing himself. 'And you have already met Geet.'
Maan's jaw clenched at the scene in front of him. So this was her new toy. By now, Maan knew very well that what kind of a person Geet had turned into. She was a shameless-bi*** and he hated her. Hated her for playing with his emotions and now she was doing the same with someone else.
But seeing her with Kabeer, had some other effect on him too, other than pure hatred. He was jealous. Yes, he envied Kabeer for being so close to her. His anger started boiling and he badly wanted to punch that Rathode.
But who the hell was this Kabeer Rathode? It was not a name he'd heard before, but it sounded familiar. Maan was sure that Kabeer was no rich business man, or else he would have remembered him. Then what were the two doing here?
Ignoring the turmoil of thoughts in his head, Abhay bit out savagely. 'I'm Maan Singh Khurana. I think I've heard your name before, but sorry can't place you. Have we met before?' He asked Kabeer and noticed the color from his face fading.
Maan's sheer arrogance during the time of his introduction didn't go unnoticed by Kabeer, and upon hearing his name, Kabeer felt a red tide of rage rise within him. He had never thought that the person whom he'd been thanking a minute ago could ever be the person he loathed with his entire heart. He gave a quick look to Geet, then turned back to Maan and spoke in a bitter tone. ' No, we have never met before Mr. Khurana.' He said with lot of emphasis on Khurana. 'But we definitely know eachother.' He eyed Maan with anger, who just stood there wondering the sudden change in Kabeer's behavior.
Kabeer turned to Geet, who was shocked to hell upon learning that Kabeer and Maan knew each other. Why on the Earth had things suddenly turned so devastating for her?
"Geet, you know Mr Khurana.sorry the great Mr. Khurana, biggest businessman in the entire country, is the one who's been sending those messages.' Kabeer spoke chillingly.
Geet shook her head in disbelief and tried hard to swallow down what she had learned. Had Maan really lost his humanity and turned into a heartless monster? She looked upto to meet Maan's eyes, which were anything but revealing about the truth.
'He's not coming today Geet. It's time for us to leave' Kabeer growled and pulled Geet with him.
Maan saw the two departing and he's not missed Geet stumble slightly in her shoes, it made her look vulnerable at a moment. He just wanted to grab her in his arms and protect her from the entire world. But that was just for a moment.
Maan's anger had reached to its peak due to Kabeer's behavior and accusation on him regarding some messages, about which Maan had no clue. He was also furious about the was Kabeer had handled Geet.
He took out his mobile and after dialing a number spoke in a demanding voice. ' I want to know the in and out of Kabeer Rathode by tomorrow.' He smiled mockingly, cutting down the call.
Her mind was debating on only one topic- Maan Singh Khurana. She had seen that confused look on his face, when Kabeer had mentioned those messages. Could it be that he's not responsible for those?
Her head was spinning with all these questions, and there was no one with whom she could share this dilemma. Kabeer had left the entire responsibility on her shoulders to meet Jeh Khurana, the man who could probably help them in this situation. Kabeer had gone back to his native place, Pune, to be there for his wife Misha, who was due to deliver their child. She was happy for the two. During this hard period, it was good that they were expecting happiness soon.
Geet knew she had to do all in her power to get Jeh Khurana agree to the deal. After all she had promised to help Kabeer and Misha during their hardship, as they had helped her.
The hotel phone rang, breaking Geet's thought process. "Hello?" she spoke into the receiver, wondering who could call her.
"Geet Handa." The voice from the other side spoke.
"How the hell did you get this number?" Geet tried not to let the sensation of sheer panic overwhelm her. But she was shocked to hear Maan's voice.
"Do you think finding a mere phone number to contact to you would be difficult for me?" he spoke. Geet could clearly visualize the smirk and wicked smile on Maan's face.
"What do you want?"
" I want to meet you. Today. ALONE." Maan spoke tautly.
"And what makes you think that i will listen to you and come?" she challenged him. Though she was eager to know the reason for this sudden meeting, she also wanted to play hard with Maan, for a reason unknown to her.
She heard his laugh. " Geet, either we do this easily, like friends." he paused at the word- friend. " Or i don't mind playing the enemy, and making it done the harder way. The choice is yours. No matter what, I'm meeting you today." The depth of his voice scared her and she knew she had no other option than to do his way.
"Where?"
He laughed again, this time, it was the victory laugh." My place. At eight. Let's have dinner together. I'll send somebody to pick you up." Speaking the last words he cut the call making Geet wonder, in what trap was he pulling her into?
******************
Maan was tense as he stood in the open lawns, outside his mansion. He was thinking deep...Why had he asked her to meet him, really?
Maan told himself, it was only because he wanted some answers. His belly clenched. It was much deeper than that, and he knew it. He wanted to see her humiliated as he had felt that night. He wanted to see her emotions exposed, as he had his. He wanted to see her in pain, the same pain he had felt when he got to know that she was married to that Kabeer Rathode and was caring his child in her womb.
He couldn't forget the shock he'd received, when he got to know about Kabeer Rathode and his wife. The two were looking for somebody who could invest in their business, which was soring low.
Kabeer Rathode, owned textile business in Pune, and the land where he had set up his industry, was the land Maan wanted badly, it being in a resourceful area. He had left this work on Sasha, who was still trying to convince the Rathodes.
But at present, the Rathode business was drowing. And they badly needed investors and hence were here to find somebody who could help them in this matter. Kabeer Rathode got married two years back and his wife was expecting their first child. Maan knew, the wife was no other than Geet. Otherwise how could she know him and why would she accompany him?
This knowledge about Geet being married to somebody else, had pinched him badly. He was broken and now all he wanted was to see her break.
