CHAPTER-4.

Prithvi stood dumb struck as the girl ran away.Her beautiful voice still ringing in his head...
If she looks so beautiful when she is angry,then how will she look when she smiles...Thought Prithvi to himself.
Suddenly he remembered what she had just said before parting,and the numbness disappeared from his brain.
"Dayan?!Did she say Dayan?!"He thought aloud,and as the hilarity registered in his brain,he whooped out with laughter.The empty orchard rang with the sound of his laughter.
Finally when he could stop himself,while wiping the tears of mirth from his eyes he realised that it was after a very long time that he had laughed so freely and aloud.With this realisation Prithvi felt very free and light.As if a burden had just been removed from his shoulder.
He knew his destiny will hold him prisoner in the end,but,for now,he could live his life in his way and daydream about his Dayan...
No..He quickly corrected himself with a naughty smile.
Not Dayan..My Mango Tree Fairy..That's what she is..Thought prithvi to himself.
Fairy or Dayan,whatever she was-she had just cast a spell on him..And Prithvi was sure he would be haunted by her memory throughout the rest of his life.
Memories..That is all he could have,as his destiny will not let him have anything else..

Prithvi knelt down to pick up the water bottle that had fallen on the ground amidst the chaos,when he noticed the mango pulp sticking on his shirt sleeve.
So...The Mango Tree Fairy was actually having mango sitting on that tree branch..He correctly assumed,smiling to himself.
He slowly removed the pulp with his finger,and absently placed it in his mouth to taste it..as he thought aloud,
"Lucky mango..."

Meera ran as fast as she could.The stranger and the strange meeting had shaken her to the core.She had to get him out of her system.With these wild thoughts in her head,Meera entered the Thakur Haweli-her home,and bumped directly into Thakur Ramdhari Singh,her father.
"What's wrong Miu?!Where's the fire?!"asked her astonished and concerned father,holding her in place with both hands.
Meera was breathing heavily and felt embarrassed at her dishevelled cloth and appearance.
"I was-"
"Why bhaiya,your Laadli must have returned home by destroying someone else's property today..Right Meera?So tell me,whose mango tree have you destroyed today?"interrupted Lakhan,Meera's youngest uncle,with a sneer.
At the mention of the mango tree,Meera's temper ignited,and to add she also disliked her youngest uncle from childhood,the hatred being mutual.
"You mind your own business,uncle!"snapped out Meera.
Her father was about to stop her,when Kalki Thakurain,Meera's elder uncle's wife,barged in defence of Lakhan.
"Why are you snapping at your uncle,Meera?He is not lying is he?"she said and smiled cunningly at a fuming Meera.
"He-"Meera was about to argue again,when her father stopped her.
"Enough Miu!And Lakhan why are you teasing her?!"
On saying this he turned back to Meera,lovingly caressed her cheek and with a smile said,
"Go up to your room Miu,and freshen up.We'll talk later."

Meera ran to her room without further ado.Shut her door with a loud bang and sat on her dressing table chair and instantly her mind went back to the strange meeting today.
Meera was well acquainted with city people.She was not a naive village girl.It was true she was born and brought up in the village.But her parents had ensured she got the proper education.She had studied in Delhi and had a Bachelors degree in History.
Meera had lived in hostel and on completing her course had recently come back home as she missed the village.City life was not for her,she had decided long ago.She wanted to do something in village for the villagers,just like her father.But for now she enjoyed running around wild and free just like she has been doing from her childhood.
During her college life she had put many flirts in their place,for daring to come near her.Many guys had called her a shrew behind her back,but she had never cared about those.And none of them had affected her like this tall and strong stranger had.
No one had ever made her feel like the stranger did today.He had made her feel self conscious and uncomfortable,and also that strange pull he had felt towards him.Those eyes..She could clearly remember those eyes...
He had such beautiful eyes..
Meera abruptly stopped her wayward thinking and decided to freshen up.
She started removing her earings when she realised one of her jhumka was missing!
"Oh God!I misplaced my earing again!Where did I drop it?!"she muttered aloud,thinking about the mango orchard...


Prithvi stared at the jhumka in his hand..And smiled for the upteempth time remembering the incident in the mango orchard...
