The actors were brilliant today, Ankita was awesome but Archana the mother disappointed. While her angst is logical and her reaction (the slap) is totally understandable, her disowning Purvi is not. We do have to keep in mind that Archana's reaction is the point of view of someone receiving the damning news for the very first time. For everyone else, it is old hat, to Archana the news about Pari's paternity is hot off the press.
Archana knows Purvi well, she questions why Purvi gave up Pari even though she, Archu had forbidden Purvi from making any more sacrifices. All fine and dandy to this point. Purvi confesses about Pari being Arjun's and hers, Archu slaps Purvi, cliche but to be expected. As a mother, Archana has every right to admonish Purvi, to be hurt, to be ashamed. She has to rant and rave, that is a mother, it is a given. The words that fell from Archana's lips though were poor form on the part of the CVs. A mother, however mortified and deeply wounded, would never say those words to her child ESPECIALLY after knowing the circumstances that had led to this current fiasco. Archana is cognizant that Purvi sacrificed Arjun and her own happiness so that she, Archana, could enjoy her family and wedded bliss with the man that left her for 18 long years.
Was Archana upset that Pari was conceived out of wedlock? If so, a totally reasonable reaction from a mother. But the woman in Archana can hopefully comprehend that however wrong in the eyes of society, the hut incident happened the night before Purvi's wedding after a near death experience, that too with her fiance who loved her to bits and who thought he had lost his soon to be wife. If Archana is angry with Purvi for that sole reason, disowning her after all these months does not somehow sit right. At this age, (50's?) if Archana can romance with her husband of 60(?), the hot blood of youth should at least minimally mitigate what happened between her daughter and her would be husband. Shameful, maybe, understandable, certainly.
Or is Archana unspokenly upset that Purvi had the baby and hence "wrecked" her dear darling daughter's happiness? If this latter is the reason, well, Archana then is not the person she is painted to be. Fair, righteous, always just, Archana could not have reacted this way. It is the fault of the CVs for transgressing from the lines of her character.
Archana should remember her own plight all those years ago when Manav abandoned her. Yes, Archana showed ehsaas to Purvi by giving her a home but Archana was allowed the opportunity to shower her mamta on this child and experience all aspects of motherhood vicariously through this sadak ki beti. Those dark years, Archana was alone, bereft, she has said many a time that Purvi was the one that gave her a reason for living. And Archu was not entirely alone, she had Sulo. The same was Purvi's plight, she though was entirely alone, bereft of family and love, she was an outcast, she had been asked to disappear by her selfish sister and so she did. She carried with her the one thing that was hers alone, her baby, and the memories of the man who loved her.
To question Purvi as to why she did not abort the child, is beyond selfishness to me. It is leagues below self-absorption. But then, Ovi had no qualms about aborting her own baby until that light bulb (Savita) went off that perhaps the baby could be instrumental in making Arjun really her own. Purvi, you have given up your love, your family, how dare you not kill your baby for Ovi's sake, for her happiness? Ovi certainly deserves a couple of smacks along with Purvi. Archana should after she regains consciousness slap that selfish daughter of hers and point out to her the nathija of her deal, pain and suffering for all. Please don't tell me, the deal is not Ovi's fault, that Purvi accepted and she should suffer. She is suffering. But what baffles the mind is "how selfish a hand or eye, could conceive that fiendish deal?" And even more, what baneful heart could overlook that selfishness? Manav constantly harps on Purvi being the fault of his little girl's unhappiness. Yes, when he first discovered the truth, the man was blind sided and blamed Purvi, but since then he has had time to digest the facts, realize that his little Barbie doll was no innocent babe in this tamasha. But Manav will be Manav, he has always worn blinders and will continue to do so.
