Hey guys! So as I said I got to write over spring break! And its completely virika side! So enjoy! See if you can guess who the character in the last paragraph is. Hint... he's not from ehmmbh.

Chapter 5

Viren turned around to look at his wife, a mixture of incredulity and joy in his eyes. Jeevika gazed back at her husband, tears brimming in her own. And then, as if pushed by an unknown force, the two moved towards each other, Viren pulling Jeevika into his embrace. They stayed that way for a long time, reveling in each other, suppressing memories of another such moment of fleeting happiness, of another baby, lost so long ago. It would be different this time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They rode home in silence, both smiling to themselves, hands interlocked, lost in thoughts about the life they had created, a symbol of their love. Viren made a mental checklist in his head of all the baby items that he needed to take out from the storage room. The crib he had lovingly decorated, the countless toys he had excitedly purchased, the photo frames just waiting to be filled' and then those dreams had been shattered by a selfless sacrifice. But that was all over now.. and there is no use dwelling in the past when the future is so bright, Viren berated himself. He glanced over at his wife and his eyes immediately misted over at the sight he beheld. Jeevika sat with a soft smile adorning her beautiful face, her hands cradling her stomach, as though she could already feel the child growing inside her. She looked over at her husband then, and their eyes, glowing with love, met for a second, before Viren willed himself to look away and concentrate on the road ahead of him.

Viren had just pulled up into the rolling driveway outside Vadhera Mansion and gently helped Jeevika out of the car when a young woman, who still looked remarkably like a teenager, almost bombarded them in her anxiety. She stood glaring at them, her hands on her hips, as they entered the house. She was slender, with side-swept bangs covering her forehead and chocolate-brown eyes, which were currently filled with both relief and concern.

"Di! Where were you!? I was so worried!" she shouted. Before either Viren or Jeevika could even attempt to respond, she continued her barrage of questions.

"You said you would come back for lunch! We waited forever and you didn't come! Why did it take so long just to go shopping? You never spend this much time shopping! And you return from such an excessively long shopping trip empty handed! What did you even buy? Did you buy me anything? Why aren't you answering?!"

Jeevika smiled to herself as she watched her sister gesticulate wildly. Her Mannu still hadn't changed; she still was, and always would be, the same kid Jeevika had grown up with twenty-three years ago.

"How can they answer if you don't give your incessant chatter a break? You haven't given them a chance to breathe, let alone speak since they stepped through the front door!" A handsome man walked into the room, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair as he spoke. He was tall, with tan skin and a muscular body. His tone of voice was wry, though his hazel eyes glowed with barely suppressed mirth.

"Quick Bhai! This chatterbox wife of mine has finally decided to shut her mouth! Speak while you get the chance! You might not get another one," he said with a grin, receiving a scowl and a small slap from his dear wife.

Viren grinned too and heeded his brother's advice, quickly speaking before his sister-in-law could begin again. "Actually Virat we were at the hospital. Jeevi-"

Unfortunately, before he could continue, Manvi could not keep silent any longer, especially when the dreaded h word was mentioned.

"WHAT!?! HOSPITAL!?!?! Jeeju what happened? Is everyone ok? Is Di ok?? How long were you there? Why didn't you call us?" she started up again. It was as though she had been charged to the brim full of questions in the short span of a five second interval in which Viren had been talking.

"Manvi! Hear them out first! They both look completely fine, in fact, they're smiling. They must have good news."

"Good news? From the hospital? How could that be?" Manvi pondered to herself

"Manvi, you are such an idiot sometimes! There is only one type of good news that can come from the hospital. Bhabi is-"

Virat abruptly stopped speaking when he saw Viren's threatening glare. "Oh sorry, Bhai! I won't steal your limelight this time. But, quick! Say something while your dearest saali thinks with that pea-sized brain of hers. You don't know when your next chance will be!" Virat stage-whispered dramatically.

"Ok, anyways, Virat, you're right. There is only one type of good news that can come from a hospital. Jeevika is-"

"OH MY GOD! YOU WERE AT THE HOSPITAL?!? WHAT HAPPENED!?!"

This time Viren was interrupted by their house's drama queen, who also had an unfortunate penchant for speaking without pause. Kadambari hurriedly ran over to Viren and Jeevika, the words tripping over themselves in her haste.

"Viren, what happened?! Is everyone ok?! How long were you there? Why didn't you call us??"

Viren shook his head exasperatedly, smiling slightly. Delivering information to this family was impossible. Manvi ran over to Kadambari, recognizing an ally in the other woman.

"I know Chachi! I have been asking them the same thing for so long now except they aren't answering!" At this, both Viren and Virat rolled their eyes, the former indulgently and the latter in irritation.

"Maybe they would answer if you would only let them speak!" Another man, dressed in a suit, walked into the room, loosening his tie as he spoke. He too had tan skin, though he was nowhere near as tall as Virat. However, he too had the same sense of humor as his nephew, his eyes twinkling with amusement as he gently scolded his wife.

"I just got worried. Is that also a problem?" Kadambari pouted as Inder rolled his eyes at his wife's antics.

"Ok, ok, I'm sorry Viren! I will be quiet now. Tell us what happened please. All this tension feels like we are in the Imran Khan movie Luck!" Kadambari exclaimed as Manvi nodded her head in agreement. Both were still confused about what good news a hospital could possibly deliver, though Virat and Inder seemed to have understood quickly enough.

"Well how about we just call the whole family to share the news?" Viren suggested. Most of you are here anyways and I have to tell everyone eventually."

"Sure, let's just do that." Inder replied.

"Shlok! Bauji! Didi! Come to the living room! Viren has some important news to share!"

In a couple of minutes, Vijay Singh Vadhera walked in with an upset Shlok.

"Papa, you made us stop our game of chess!"

"Oh Shloku! You can play chess anytime!! This news is important!" Manvi said, hauling Shlok to her in what she presumed to be an affectionate gesture, though Shlok did not seem to share her sentiment.

"Where is Badimaa?" Viren asked.

"I am right here." Swamini replied as she walked down the stairs.

"Bua, why do you wear so much eyeliner?" Shlok questioned as though just noticing her heavy makeup for the first time. "It makes you look like a cheetah."

And that too a very big one, Manvi couldn't help but think as she snickered to herself.

Swamini merely rolled her eyes and Viren seized the opportunity to speak again. "So I called you all here because I have some very special news to share."

Viren began to narrate the whole story, though he neglected to tell the part about the robber, foreseeing the massive panic attack it would induce in his entire family. "And we found out that she's pregnant!" Viren beamed as he finished.

The entire house was silent for a record of two seconds before chaos ensued. There was whooping, cheering, yelling, and a wolf whistle, provided courtesy of Virat.

"Wow!!! I am going to be a Chachi!" Manvi exclaimed happily, running over to hug her sister.

"And I am going to be a Chachu!" Virat shouted as he thumped Viren on the back.

"Finally, I will have someone else to play chess with other than Dadaji! I can teach the baby all my skills!"

"Wow! Congratulations Viren and Jeevika! Babies are so cute!! I bet this one will look just like the one from the movie Heyy Babyy! Maybe even cuter!"

Inder and Dadaji just smiled, while Swamini closed her eyes, thanking God for another chance.

In the midst of all this, Viren and Jeevika simply looked at each other, happiness brimming in their eyes. And we will be parents.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Viren Vadhera.

It had been a long time since he had felt anything close to fear. He had been far too busy inducing that emotion in others to experience it himself. But when he heard that name, he had felt a spark of trepidation, fear that he would finally be forced to pay for all his sins. The moment was fleeting, though, and the doubt soon passed. And then came the plan, already formulated, as though he had been ready for exactly such an obstacle.

As he looked through his work, his eyes narrowed into a threatening glare and his lips curled into a sinister smile. The message was simple enough. Now he would just have to wait and see if Viren Vadhera was intelligent enough to heed his warning.

Hey everybody! So we're back with chapter 6! I know we haven't updating in a while, and I am not going to try and make promises, but for now enjoy!

Chapter 6

Viren looked over at his wife, smiling at the sight she made; she was curled up on the love seat in the corner of their room, her hand resting on her stomach as she cooed softly. As he walked towards Jeevika, Viren could make out her sweet tones, her voice music to his ears.

"You're my little angel, aren't you? So you won't be naughty like your Manvi Mausi, right? Of course you won't! You'll be my precious baby, my rajkumar!"

Viren smiled as he watched her. The world was perfect now. His wife was happy, the shadows finally gone from her luminous eyes and soon, they would have their very own bundle of joy. He sat next to her, his arms immediately going around her and she, in turn, leaned into him. His hand joined hers, both protecting the life they had created. He stared at their entwined hands before speaking, his words teasing.

"What makes you think we'll have a rajkumar? I'm telling you, soon, I will be holding a rajkumari in my hands!"

"No, no, Virenji, it will be a rajkumar!"

"Rajkumari!"

"Rajkumar!"

"A rajkumari, as beautiful as you." As he often did, Viren silenced his wife with a compliment, noting with tender amusement the blush darkening her face. Before he could continue though, he was interrupted by a knock on the door. Exasperated, Viren carefully disengaged himself from his wife and made his way over to the source of annoyance.

"What now, Manv- Oh Tarun, it's you. Sorry, I thought it was Manvi." God knows, she always seems to interrupt whenever I have a moment alone with Jeevika.

"Oh sorry sir, it's just this courier came for you."

"Ok, thanks Tarun." As the servant left, Viren turned his attention to the envelope in his hands. There was no return address, which piqued Viren's interest and he quickly tore the envelope open. It did not take long for him to read the message within, but he stared at the words for several minutes after, frozen at the door with the paper in his hands, his brow furrowed.

"Virenji? What happened? What's in the courier?" At the sound of Jeevika's voice, Viren's head snapped up, as though he had been abruptly woken from a trance.

"Nothing, just some papers for work." He avoided her eyes while he told the lie, but she did not notice, her focus riveted once again on the baby she imagined was speaking back to her as she muttered nonsensical chatter to it. Viren sat next to Jeevika but he did not join her as he had before, his thoughts circling the words he had read. Who had sent that note? And why?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hari Prakash! Where are the red roses I ordered!? Di will be home soon and time is running out dammit!"

"Hai Devi Maiyya! I still have to make jalebis and get ready too! Mamiji, you put the ladoos in the kitchen right?"

"Hello hi bye bye! Patti Sari the ladoos are right there! I even ate some to make sure they were up to standards. Now excuse me, I have to wear my matching green eye shadow!"

"Can everybody please move?! I can't see the cricket match!! YES! SIXER!!!"

The Raizada house was turned upside down in preparation for Anjali's birthday party. After finally coming home, Arnav and Khushi had found that almost none of the decorations had been set up. Payal had been cooking the meals and Akash had gone to get the birthday cake while Manorama and NK ran off to choose their outfits for the evening. With only two hours left, it had been left up to Arnav and Khushi to get straight to work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nani was very exhausted; she and Anjali had spent practically the entire day outside while the rest of the family prepared for the surprise party. They started out by going to the temple and then went to practically every store that existed buying clothes and puja thaali's and countless other random, useless items. Up until now Nani had done a good job at keeping Anjali busy, but in the last couple of stores, the unavoidable questioning had started.

"Nani shall we go home now? I have everything I possibly need," Anjali said tiredly. She didn't know what was wrong with Nani today, but she seemed to really want to be out. After insisting that they go to the temple, Nani had taken her to every store in the world, saying they needed some "girl time." It was rather ridiculous, considering one of the "girls" was probably seventy years old.

"Nahi! I mean, why do you want to go home so quickly? Are you sure there is nothing else you need to buy?"

"No Nani, there is absolutely nothing more I need and I am tired! We have spent the entire day outside, why can't we just go home now? I promise I have everything."

Devyani scrambled to come up with another place they could possibly go to when she was inspired, and as they all say, desperate times called for desperate measures. "How about Sheila's Secrets? We've never been there together and today is girls' day out right?"

Anjali started choking on the air, her mind suddenly filled with horrifying images of her maternal grandmother decked out in certain scandalous unmentionables. "Well Nani, I actually-"

"No excuses! Now come on! I even heard they got some new stock!" Devyani said with a grin as she grabbed a shocked Anjali and dragged her away.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, back at the Raizada house, the preparations were finally wrapping up, after hours of stress in which Arnav had thought of a thousand ways to kill every single member of his family. Finishing touches were being added and guests were due to roll in any second. Arnav was about to go upstairs to check on Khushi and maybe spend a precious few minutes with her when he was almost knocked over by the human tornado that came tearing his way.

"AHHH! NANNAV MERA BHAI! CLOWN! CLOWN! I THINK IT ESCAPED FROM THE CIRCUS! AND NOW IT'S HERE IN SHANTIVAN!! SAVE ME!! SAVE ME NANNAV MERA BHAI! PLEASE HELP ME!" NK cried in desperation, his arms flailing as he tried to grab Arnav while simultaneously running down the stairs.

"What the! What the hell is wrong with you!? Let go of me dammit! The guests will be coming any time now!" Arnav shouted with immeasurable irritation in his voice.

"THERE IS A CLOWN NANNAV! UPSTAIRS! IN OUR HOUSE! I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE GOT IN BUT SHE IS IN A SARI ALSO! You know how scared I am of clowns, mera bhai!" NK screamed as he continued hugging Arnav, using him as a shield.

"GET OFF OF ME! NOW!" Arnav yelled as he yanked NK's hands off in disgust. "NK if this is some kind of sick joke, then I swear to god I will-"

"Nahi! I am telling the truth! Go up and see for yourself!" NK protested, still cowering behind Arnav.

Arnav started climbing up, cursing under his breath as NK followed behind in trepidation, hiding behind him for protection. Suddenly Arnav froze midway, as the clown came into view.

"Hello hi bye bye! What is going on? Why is everybody screaming?" Mamiji exclaimed as she came down the stairs. And Arnav finally understood what NK had been going on about.

The word clown was probably the best way to describe her. She was wearing a leaf green sari with netted short sleeves and a partially see through pallu. But the most astounding aspect of her outfit was her matching bright green eye shadow that had been almost carelessly smeared onto her face in endless splotches, reaching up to her eyebrows. Her eyes were overly emphasized with green eyeliner and her eyelashes caked with green mascara. Her cheeks were big globs of pink. Somebody who was painting a room could have probably used her face to stamp polka dots onto the wall.

Arnav took a deep breath to calm himself down before he spoke. "Mami what the hell are you wearing? And where did you manage to buy green mascara?!"

"How is it looking Arnav bitwa? Very nice, is it not? Going green is what is in these days, no? So I thought that I also will go green," Manorama explained proudly.

"Nannav why did you stop- AHHH THE CLOWN! IT'S THE CLOWN NANNAV! THE CLOW-"

"SHUT UP NK IT'S JUST MAMI!"

NK stopped screaming and slowly walked up the stairs, closer and closer to Manorama. Once he was on the same step as she was, he moved his face right up to hers, his eyebrows scrunched in close scrutiny.

"Hello hi bye bye! Do I look like a clown? Why didn't anyone tell me Arnav bitwa!" Manorama sobbed as she began to wail. "I was just trying to go green!" she cried as her mascara began to make green streaks down her face.

Arnav was about to explode when another far more welcome sight caught his attention. Khushi came down the stairs, a relief to his sore eyes. Her hair was in soft curls and she was wearing a dark blue sari with simple gold work, a minimal amount of makeup highlighting the natural beauty of her face.

"Wow Khushi you look-" Arnav was about to compliment his wife but was cut off by a loud, indignant screech.

"Patti Sari also looks better than me! What is this world coming to??"

"Mamiji what's wrong? Arnavji, what happened to her?" Khushi asked as she placed a comforting hand on Manorama.

Arnav's answer was cut off by the doorbell. "The guests are coming! Khushi, fix up Mami, quick! Di will be here soon!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anjali let out a sigh of relief as they finally pulled up in front of her home, her face still burning in mortification from the visit to Sheila's Secrets. She had somehow managed to drag her reluctant grandmother home and was now looking forward to a long bath and an early night. As she pushed open the heavy doors of Shantivan, Anjali blinked against the darkness.

"Nani, why are all the lights out? Nani?"

The lights suddenly came back on and she closed her eyes against the sudden burst of light.

"SURPRISE!!!"

So how was it?? Likes and comments below please!
