Chapter 16

Nani, Mami and Anjali sat calmly to talk to Arnav about the latest revelation they were notified by the media.

"Chotey are we hearing right?" said Nani holding her hands together for support.

He nodded his head.

"But Chotey you could have told us before...it wasn't nice hearing about your engagement like this"

Mami got up in her duck walk style and went and patted Arnav's head.

"Hello hi bye bye! Anjali this is not your or my generation..this generation is phaasst..its like sending a text message proposals and engagements...not slow like our days..isn't it Arnav bitua?"

He smiled and looked at his Di for approval.

"Chotey we are happy as we are the ones that wanted you to get married to Khushi betiya...whats done is done but now us elders need to get together and set an engagement date" said Nani sternly.

"But Nani what is the hurry?" said Arnav trying to sound calm.

"Chotey there is...we need to make it official..plus as a sister I have many desires..."

"Yes Arnav bitua I better start losing some weight to fit into a nice sari...oh my god! I need to make appointments for my facials...got so much to do...after all I am your mami need to look beautiful"

Nani and Anjali laughed seeing Mami's antics.

Akash came and joined the family.

"Bro...I knew you and Khushi ji will work out and come together...now the fun will start with lava and fire..."

Arnav tried looking neutral not giving much away about how happy he was getting engaged to his Chamkili. Shyam walked in with his briefcase.

"Look your jija ji is here...Shyam ji our chotey is getting engaged soon...to Khushi ji isn't it great?"

"What?!" he said shocked and then hid his true feelings. "Really Rani Saiba...how did she agree?"

"Who will refuse the great Arnav Singh Raizada? My brother is one in a billion...Khushi ji had to give in...anyway you go and change and we will have dinner together then"

Shyam contorted his face and then walked off fearing he was going to reveal his inner feelings. As he walked off he bumped into NK.

"Jija ji watch where you going...is everything okay?" he asked seeing Shyam look strange.

"Y...yesss I'm just a little tired...had a long day.." he quickly walked off fearing NK's scrutiny.

NK looked towards the other members and then came near Arnav.

"Who would have thought our Nannav would be getting engaged...and in this style...eh eh!" he nudged Arnav while he was tapping away on his laptop.

Arnav gritted his teeth.

"How many times have I told you to not call me that!" he looked exasperated.

"Calm calm...keep your hear on Nannav..I mean Arnav! You are getting irritated that I am calling you that what if Chamkili comes and calls you that..."

Nani, Mami and Anjali froze at the mention on Chamkili. Arnav looked at his family's face and saw the suppressed anger that was spread across their face. He ignored NK had said that.

"Arnav if Chamkili comes and finds out your getting married to another girl..how would she feel..it's not fair is it?"

Arnav tried hiding his smirk and kept a stern straight face.

"NK, Chamkili was his friend...he did not promise her that he will marry her...plus its been years...what if she is fat...too short..too tall...or worse.." said Mami trying to get him off the topic.

"Good point!" he began thinking.

"But if it is true love then these don't matter nah?" he retorted much to Nani's dismay.

"NK I thought you were hungry lets get you something to eat" Mami grabbed him and took him away.

Anjali came and sat near her brother. She touched his face lovingly.

"Chotey you are happy aren't you?"

He nodded his head.

"Of course Di...anyways you sort everything out with Mr Gupta hmmm?"

He shut his laptop and went upstairs. Nani and Anjali looked relieved. Chamkili was the least of their worries now.

"Did you see Anjali betiya he didn't react to Chamkili's name...that means he has got over her...Khushi is his future".

"Ji Nani" she said looking at him walking upstairs.

Shyam put his brief case down and began pacing his room.

"Arnav cannot marry that girl...she is way too clever and will foil all my plans I have of ripping Saale saab...and Anjali will probably have to move from here...and how will I con them off money...I really need to do something...but what?"

He took his shirt off and lay down on his bed. He closed his eyes and began breathing deeply.

After a while he felt a hand on his arm. He opened his eyes.

"Shyam ji what is wrong you look upset?" asked a concerned Anjali.

"Nothing Rani Saiba..just worried for Saale saab...is engagement with Khushi ji...well I'm going to honest with you...that girl is so feisty and clever she will have Arnav round her finger in no time..don't you think you should have found someone a bit timid?"

Anjali smiled.

"Shyam ji...Arnav looks modern but believe me he likes people straight and a girl like that would win his heart...look at Chamkili...till this day he couldn't forget her...Khushi ji will make him more closer to us all than herself...I know my chotey he is only marrying her to please me...so don't be worried"

Shyam smiled a little convinced by his wife. She was making sense.

Standing near his pool he looked towards the sky. A little smile spread across his face, which soon turned to frown.

**Flashback**

Arnav pulled Khushi from the media and grabbed her by the arm and took her to a secluded room.

"What the! What the hell did you do that for?" he asked.

She looked defiantly in his eyes.

"Mr Arnav Singh Raizada, that is what we agreed to do..didn't we?"

"We...I mean you could have told me..."

"I thought you would have approved...as we had agreed on this fake alliance..."

Arnav looked on his Chamkili...he felt gutted...he overcame his emotions and turned to ASR again.

"Fine if that is how you want to play it...let's do it!"

**Flashback ended**

He looked on in despair. He could not believe his Chamkili could just get engaged to anyone at a drop of a hat.

*I don't know Khushi if you are still my Chamkili...I am going to find out through this engagement if you have feelings for me still...you are too complex and I can't ask you straight out as you won't give me a straight answer...Nani, Di and Mami think I have forgotten you Chamkili but I haven't...I don't want to tell them because I'm not even sure if you love me...because we were only kids and now as adults I don't know if your feelings have culminated to love*

He sighed and combed his hair in frustration.

Khushi walked into her office in a maroon coloured sari. Everyone around looked shocked seeing her dressed so traditionally for office.

As she walked in Payal approached to greet.

"Mam...congratulations!" Khushi looked back at her PA and scrunched her eyebrows.

"For what?"

"Your and ASR engagement" she said wearingly.

"Oh that...thanks...ummhhh is Arnav around?"

Payal looked at Khushi surprised but realised that from now on she will casually call him.

"No not at the moment..."

She seemed annoyed but calmed down. She went into her cabin to start her day. After a few moments she got up to look around her office. As she reached the door Arnav stood in front of her.

"Hi" he said in his husky flirtiest tone.

"Hello" she said awkwardly.

He stood there gazing at his fianc to be looking ravishing in her maroon sari with an embroidered black piping. She looked into his eyes and suddenly noticed a soft tone to his smoking eyes for her.

*Rabba Vey*

She shifted her gaze.

"Mr Raizada if you don't mind I have an office to run..."

He immediately stepped aside to allow her to pass. He went inside to set his laptop to work with Khushi on finalising the show schedule. After a little while Khushi came in looking annoyed.

"What the hell you think you are doing?" she stormed in.

"What do you mean Khushi?"

"I mean why are MY employees telling me your plans of our so called marriage...?"

"Oh that...sweetheart.." he changed his tone to a romantic one.

"Sweetheart?" she made an O shape with her mouth. He pointed towards the door. Khushi realised someone was there.

"Yes sweetheart..we need to discuss our marriage plans no?"

He came closer and looked into her eyes while she tried acting romantic too. He touched her face.

"Arnav..." she tried blushing.

"Khushi...stop acting!" he said noticing Mr Gupta retreat seeing the lovebirds.

Khushi realised her father had gone.

"How dare you touch me Raizada..." she pointed her finger. He grabbed it.

"I will...a thousand times..." he looked at her flirtiously.

She noticed her dad back with Akash.

"Ahem" Akash cleared his throat. They looked back at them both.

"Dad you here?" she asked trying to sound surprised.

"Yes me beta...it's lovely to see you both finally taking a liking for each other. I for one am thrilled my daughter chose you Arnav...I knew if anyone can make my girl happy it's you".

Arnav smiled slightly while Khushi contorted her face.

"Khushi I have left some project files with Payal look through them and let me know what you think hhmmm?"

"Yes dad...have a nice day" she made sure her dad had gone.

As she looked back Arnav was picking up his mobile.

"Khushi I need to go and see the new venue...if I need you I will call you hmmm?"

"Raizada, all is okay as far as acting is concerned but don't try your luck with me otherwise I will make you wish you were never born, understand? You better understand!"

She clicked her fingers.

"Khushi you try your luck with a woman..." he walked off leaving his sentence incomplete. She made an O shape and fumed in anger.

Khushi sat looking through the files her dad had left for her. She was carefully reading and taking notes.

"Mam" Payal rushed in.

"Yes?"

"ASR just rang and sent a message asking you to come to this venue..." she gave a piece of paper with an address to it. Khushi sighed and shut the files.

"Fine...tell my driver to take my car out"

Khushi left her office and asked her driver to drop her off. As she reached the venue she turned to her driver.

"Driver you can go...I will come with Arnav"

He nodded his head and left his boss. As she got in she realised the venue looked haunted.

"What the hell...Raizada thinks we are going to hold our event here?" she went inside and the door shut behind her.

As the Gupta office continued to work around the clock to make the show successful, Arnav walked in. Payal and Akash noticed him coming.

"Sir where is Mam?"

Arnav looked on confused.

"How am I supposed to know?"

"Sir you called to ask her to meet you at the venue and she just left 20 minutes ago" Payal said anxiously.

"Did I? But I didn't call her because the venue was not good"

"Bro so who called Ms Gupta?" asked Akash.

"I don't know but this doesn't sound good...Payal give me the address..."

Arnav took the address and got into his SUV and drove off fastly. He was really worried for his Chamkili. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind.

"Raizada? Enough of your jokes come out!" demanded Khushi sounding annoyed.

The place was really dusty and by the cobwebs it seemed no one had ever been there.

"Ar-Nav..." she said feeling afraid for once in her life.

"When I get my hands on you I will kill you...okay...I am leaving..." she turned back towards the door. She felt a pull on her sari pallu.

"Hey number one!" she looked back. Her eyes widened.

"You?" she said shocked seeing Mr Khan's son.

"Yes me..." he said with a lusty tone.

"What the hell you think you're doing?" she charged at him to slap him.

He grabbed her hand and twisted it behind it.

"Taking revenge for the humiliation you caused me and my family...today you won't be able to call yourself number one again"

He tried kissing her and she kicked him in the groin. She ran off while he winced in pain. As she tried to reach the door again he grabbed her and pulled her by the hair and slapped her. He began opening his shirt.

She fell and then got up to save herself. He tore part of her blouse and she bit him. As he got angry he grabbed her sari pallu and began forcefully unwinding it.

"Save me...someone save me..." she pleaded seeing herself helpless.

He grabbed all her sari and threw it only to be grabbed by Arnav Singh Raizada. Khushi covered herself with her hands and noticing Arnav there she hid behind him. Arnav clenched his jaw and covered Khushi with the sari.

"Oi Who are you? Get lost!" said the goon.

Arnav grabbed him by the neck and answered his question.

"I am Arnav Singh Riazada...Khushi Kumari Gupta's fianc...and b**tard how dare you touch her!"

He began beating the guy till the guy fell down. As he got up he saw Khushi had put her sari on properly.

"Khushi come lets go..." he grabbed her by the wrist. She shook his grip.

"Arnav Singh Raizada...why did you do this?" he looked confused. She pushed him back.

"You called me here" she pushed him back again. "To put me in front of this wolf" she pushed him but this time he took her hands and pinned her to the wall.

"I did not call you Khushi...this guy tricked you to come here" he grabbed her wrists and pressed hard.

"Maybe if you came off your high horse and stopped acting like you can do anything than you wouldn't get in to this messes..." he angrily pinned her more.

"I told you I will call you...but you just got some call and believed it..."

As the bangles dug into her wrists she began feeling faint and fell unconscious into his arms.

Her hair hair fell on her face and he looked at her like she was a doll. He smoothed her hair behind her ear and looked at his innocent Chamkili. He picked her up in his arms and began looking at her face all bruised and her clothes torn from places.

*I can't take her home in this condition...I know I will take her to our farm house it's near..."

He walked off effortlessly with her in his arms and looked at her ever so lovingly. It was like a dream come true his Chamkili in his arms.
