I think he is pretty close at redeeming himself, with the hearltfelt sorry-that Zoya did not hear, and the romantic setting.

For me, all this is good, just the perfect amount of romance without making you want to turn the TV off, however the true point of redemption will be when he actually trusts her and supports her openly. (Plus, this will help when Zoya finds out about Gaffur being her father and Asad can support Zoya then- just my imagination)
