Blast From The Past: Saif Leaves Amrita Singh

Despite Saif Ali Khan's Royal Background, it seems that post the divorce, he had given ex-wife , Amrita Singh and his children(Sara and Ibrahim) a royal snub. For those not in the know, Saif and Amrita had a quiet runaway marriage, much to the surprise and disapproval of his parents.

Their marriage went through 13 years, which were faced with several challenges, to be expected for people that married so young and impulsively, but it seemed, Amrita bore the brunt of things. She reminisced with Stardust, that the despite tribulations her relationship, there were many trials, and Saif's Roving eye didn't help. She noted on one occasion, they were giving a lift to a wannabe actress in their car, she stepped out to buy something, and she came back to find them discussing alot more than just a movie. The final nail in the coffin was Saif's affair with Rosa, an italian Dancer, on a tour.

However, post the divorce, Saif pulled yet another brattish stunt, possibly from spite, by freezing all of Amrita's Accounts and all their joint accounts. The now family man, also apparently didnt offer any financial assistance towards bringing up his two children, Sara and Ibrahim. Amrita Singh suddenly resurfaced in search of work on television and the big screen, stating ' "I need to work to support myself and my kids."

Its famously known that now jail-bird Sanjay Dutt, stepped in by offering her financial help, which Amrita politely declined, preferring to stand on her own feet. She does however state how grateful she is. Parts of the film industry also showed their solidarity by being quick to offer her roles with inflated pay packages, however Singh remained selective and has feature in only five films and one tv serial since.

The distance between Amrita Singh and her now ex-in laws became canyons once she publicly declared that their son offered her no assistance, however sources state that Sharmila Tagore, say that she (Sharmila) never made much effort to be in touch with either Amrita or the grand kids
Even during the kids' birthdays the grand parents weren't present. The source further added 'Amrita is single handedly bringing up her kids. She's bitter, feels she got a raw deal from Saif and his family'.

It looks like all bitterness has now been mended and things have turned for the better, with Saif's newfound involvement with the children, but reading the aftermath of the divorce, it was shocking to see the 'Cultured Nawab' turn so sour.
