Walaikum Salam Pine-apple. To answer your question. I practiced the fundamentals of Islam quite a bit such as Praying (not five times but whenever I could), Fasting, observing holidays such as Eid etc) but I never wore a headscarf. My parents were never the strict orthodox type and they always preached the importance of being a good human being first because that is the most important thing (and dont all religions basically preach its followers to be good human beings?)

Today my view on religion is very different from what it was a few years ago but I dont think it has anything to do with moving to the US. People in pakistan even are not immune to such school of thought. But yes living in the US has certainly strengthened my views because this country encourages freedom of thought. I still believe strongly in Praying to God and being a good human being. but as for most rituals I dont follow them too much.

😆I try to be but there are always "some" conflicts between parents and their children. I try to be there for my parents as much as I can but I dont let them dictate every aspect of my life. try to keep a balance. for me the meaning of "good" is very relative. your definition of good will be different from mine and mine will be different from my mom's definition.
