Dilip Kumar, a thespian, a cinematic phoenix or a living legend! Words run short as one thinks of this magnanimous film personality when he celebrates his birthday today. Like all successful Bollywood "Sagittarius", he is a monumental figure who was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan on 11th Dec 1922 in Peshawar, Pakistan. The journey from an Army canteen boy to first stepping in film world started off when actress Devika Rani gave him his first break in 'Jwar Bhata' in as early as 1944. But the first success came in 'Jugnu' (1947) where he played lead opposite legendary actress-cum-singer Noorjahan. It was followed by films like 'Mela', 'Andaz', 'Babul', 'Aarzo', 'Jogan', 'Uddan Khatola' and Bimal Roy's classic 'Devdas' that gave him the tag of "tragedy king".

Dilip's most notable and admirable performances were witnessed in classics like 'Mughal-e-Aazam', 'Naya Daur', 'Madhumati' and evergreen 'Ram Aur Shyam' that shot him to astronomical heights of super stardom. In 50's and 60's, he formed a successful triumvirate with all-time great actors like Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor and proved his dominance at the box office. He married successful actress Saira Bano in 1966 at the age of 44, though he has been linked in the past with Bollywood's most pretty actress Madhubala. The second innings of Dilip Kumar is as colorful as his first one as he played notable and influential elderly characters in films like 'Kranti', 'Shakti', 'Saudagar' and 'Vidhata' opposite favorite actors like Manoj Kumar, Raj Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

Dilip Kumar received the prestigious "Dada Saheb Phalke Award" in 1994 followed by equally esteemed "Nishan-e-Imitiaz", the highest civilian award in Pakistan in 1998. This renowned actor has recently entered into Bhojpuri film production along with his wife Saira Bano and his first presentation is 'Ab to Banja Sajanwa Hamar'. Let's salute this living legend on his birthday today.

He is truly a living legend..I think he is one the first and the biggest star of Bollywood industry. I wish that he live a long and a healthy life 😳
