The above link will take you to an article where a Physician was discriminated against because of her skin colour.
Racism is still very prevalent in our society, and its effects can be disastrous.

It's sad that even in the 21st Century, people can be so ignorant towards others based on their religions, skin colour, beliefs, etc.

The guards apparently held her back because after the Boston Bombings they had to be "careful of people like [her]"

Any views on this matter?

Yes, racism is still alive and kicking; in the land of opportunity and freedom and every where else! Its usually subtle, so this was shocking to read! I have not ever come across blatant racism in the US, but have heard of many; esp. at parties, when a racist remark is slipped in as a "joke"!

Just wanted to share this, from NPR today...

Racism is everywhere! There are stand up comedians who make racists joke all the time, and people take that in good humour, find it quite funny. I guess, it can only be laughed about to a certain extent.

i was watching a documentary show where the statistics reveled that the Police were 28 times more likely to stop a black guy and search him, in comparison to say a white guy. Here is the link, for interested ones

The question to ask here is why is this the case? Is racial profiling because of a reason? are black more likely to be involved in crime hence the greater the security check? Or because West is predominately inhabited by the white people, which makes them feel superior to other race and ethnic backgrounds?

Take India for example, White people in India are rigged/targeted and white or NRI consumers end up paying higher price for everything, and yeah that is maybe not exactly a racist attack, however it is still discrimination, and living in 21st Century there are certain things that don't change, but become better. Racism has become better in time, in comparison to the past.. in the days before Nelson Mandela took a stand against racism, whoever thought a black guy Barack Obama will ever have the power to rule a country? So yes things have definitely become better since the days where a black had to give up his seat to a white person, to a black now ruling a country but there will always be racism and stereotyping regardless of how advanced we have become, there always be some people lagging and such allegations will always be made.

I am tired of comments such as ' All Muslims are terrorist/ Islam is the religion of terror ' or ' All blacks are poor or dangerous. We talk about becoming modernised et al., but i can name you very fine folks who are the first to bark racist comments or consider themselves superior to others because of their experiences, and those people reside on the forum itself and the world is full of them.

PS a very famous quote, i have been brought up hearing and was the moral of my school was be the change you want to be, If you want this racism to stop then stop targeting other ethnicity yourself and embrace the change that regardless of colour, race, background, education we are all human at the end of the day, and nobody is superior or inferior to anyone, regardless if you are a billionaire or someone living in the slum, treat all with equal respect.

Racism is for lazy people who don't take the time to learn enough about someone to dislike them for a much better reason...😊

Racism sucks. Skin color does not mean anything. Fortunately I have seen hardcore racism happening around me. Although, we all indulge in a certain amount of racism in our day to day activities. We tend to get obsessed with and about being fair and take someone with a darker skin to go some sort of lowly goon. 😳 It's all really mild, but we tend to associate fair with 'benign' and dark with 'criminal' and 'ugly'.And that's about it.

I find it ironic that us Indians - or anybody with brown skin - tries to fight off racism, yet we all promote fair n lovely, or appreciate fairness in people. Why?

We dun have the skin of that color. It's always just fascinated us. 'Gora chitta' has always been preferred over 'kala kaluta'. Half the time we don't even realize that our comments could actually be racist. Mostly we're under the impression that it's just somehow better to be fair, it makes you more likable. 😳

Racism or discrimination against people other than Caucasian is what we see now a days in the free country. People who are not Caucasian are subjected to discrimination at some point.

Whether it is discrimination against race, religion or caste or even regions (North vs South, East vs West) it has been prevalent among human beings all over the World for ever.

Hahahaha ...nice Krani nice...And What fairness product are ya slyly marketing here?... be real ..

Alright wait ...tell me this ...How is being covetous of a brighter skin tone Racist ? ..Unless it was a joke eh ! Was it a joke ? ..😆...According to me, the races based on the skin color are ... White people ..Black people and Brown people ...( And also RED Indians, Yellow ? Chinese...😛)

Now how does using a fairness product to get a brighter, radiant skin make people racist ? ...Are ya sure that they all treat the darker ones impudently ? ...There are many white people who Sunbake their lives away to get that coveted TAN ...and a few try and hide the freckles they might get after that ..😆 ...A lotta Chinese repose their trust in Clorox to get that yellow tint off their skins ..Are they all racists ? ..No hell..That can't be a sagacious argument ..

..One may choose a Siberian Husky over a Cooonhound as their pet ...A Red rose over yellow or pink ones ..A fairer person over a darker one ( Or vice versa ) ..Its the choice of a color we make in everyday life.. and that's not racism I guess ..

Vintu...😛

So you have agreed that discrimination against a particular skin colour is racism, yet you say that wanting, preferring and liking a whiter skin tone as opposed to a darker skin tone cause it's "prettier" and more "acceptable" is not racism.
