My 2 cents on this.

The Prithviraj Kapoor clan cannot strictly be called Punjabi. The older members of the clan used to insist that they were Hindu Pathans, not Punjabi. They were from Peshawar so there might be something to this.

Kareena and Karisma have a Sindhi mom

Hrithik is mixed - he's quarter Bengali 😆 (his paternal grandmother was Bengali - Rakesh Roshan is half-Bengali. Which explains the name Hrithik - not exactly a common name among Punjabis)

Karan Johar is half-Parsi.

Anushka Sharma is from Uttarakhand and is definitely not Punjabi.

Raj Kumar - Kashmiri (there you go guess_who - they are trying to appropriate your Kashmiris 😆)

Govinda - Mother was from UP.

Both Sonam and Arjun are half-Sindhis (Sonam's mom Sunita is Sindhi and so was Arjun's mom Mona Shourie)

Aditya Roy Kapoor's mom is either Anglo-Indian or a Mangalorean Christian (can't tell exactly from the name).

For me personally two of the most incredible Punjabi talents in Bollywood have been Balraj Sahni and Gulzar.

even if they're part punjabi they're still punjabi...

^Not wholly. That makes them half or quarter-Punjabis. Moreover, most of them haven't come in contact with the state of Punjab in their lifetime.

Partly yes. But they can be equally claimed by whatever other ethnicity they are part of. Also - how sad that no one seems to be in a hurry to claim full-blooded Punjabis like Harman Baweja and Dolly Bindra 😆 (just kidding - there are tons of awesome Punjabis in Hindi films)

Who is a Punjabi or not is a bit complicated especially in areas with a mixed Punjabi Pashtun influence. I know several Saraiki/Multanis who would swear up and down that they are not Punjabis (at least Multan is part of the Punjab province, unlike Peshawar).

People from Bannu speak a language which is heavily influenced by Pashto - Punjabi speakers would be unable to understand this dialect. I grew up in Delhi so saw enough of these communities. It all boils down to the family's self-identification - Prithviraj Kapoor called himself a Hindu Pathan all his life.
