Hi all!
What is your take on Vrinda and Jalandhar Story?
Here I put my views with some references...
Vrinda an ardent devotee of the supreme dedicated her mind, thoughts, speech, actions everything to the supreme in her daily worship.Destiny made her tie with Jalandhar a diligent disciple of Guru ShukraCharya.
Why only Jalandhar was successful in mastering arts? Did Shukracharya show bias among his disciples?Never. A Guru always comes up with unrelenting efforts to impart knowledge in all of his disciples. But did the disciple show his/her dedication in learning??This makes Jalandhar unique when compared to other asuras/disciples of Shukracharya.
Due to Shukracharya's grace Jalandhar gained proficiency in arts and spiritual sciences.
Jalandhar not an ordinary man anymore , could even reach MahaDev's place(abode of paramatma)which is a hard nut to crack in the spiritual path (experiencing the supreme)
Call it his greatness(being an ansh of MahaDev) or Shukracharya's effort or Vrinda's chasity(it is said that it's not one's wife's/life partner's chasity which makes one experience the supreme,it totally depends on thy self that particular person's qualification in attaining it)he was indeed a blessed soul(at that point) no comparision but it is fact.
But what went wrong???Who's responsible for this???
How foolish he was!He casted an evil eye on mother of all worlds Parvathi!Infact MahaDev was testing Jalandhar in the form of Parvathi!
Vrinda his wife was a chaste lady but her husband couldn't maintain his loyalty towards her.
If he really loved his wife and was dedicated to her the question of desiring another woman doesn't arise.
He prepared to fight with to whom he planned to surrender earlier.
Vrinda did her duty tried her level best in saving him but destiny rules...
Note these :
In some texts it is said that Lord Vishnu disguised as Jalandhar and had physical relationship with Vrinda to spoil her chasity?!Also it is said that MahaDev and Ganas were deeply engrossed in Apsara dance created by Jalandhar. How can the one who is beyond all worldly affairs, emotions, temptations and can be experienced only in the state of equanimity be referred to such an act?How can the supreme being suffer infatuation? It is said that he is poles apart from all this sickness.
According to a spiritual discourse...
Jalandhar neglected his Guru's instructions after conquering the world, ego played on his head and made him blind! However learned a man may be,or however deep his study of Vedas and Vedangas (sacred literature) may be, he cannot go to his destination safely. For traversing this path, the help of a good guide (Guru) is absolutely necessary.
Vrinda was worshipping the supreme in view of her husband's safety when he went to fight with MahaDev.MahaDev couldn't punish Jalandhar when Vrinda was deeply concentrating on him(Shiva){he gives first preference to devotees},so he knocked him down only when Vrinda lost the grip of her meditation due to an illusion of her husband(his image) that arose in her mind(i.e she started recollecting her romance with Jalandhar and let her mind loose away from worship)
Cosmic nature has 3 phases the creative, the preservative and the dissolving states ; governed respectively by Brahma,Vishnu and Shiva.
As our sustenance and actions are governed by Vishnu he is held responsible for the occurence of illusion in Vrinda's mind and nothing to blame on him as it was their destiny and a result of their past actions.
Though Vrinda had to suffer due to lack of alertness at that crucial time , she was blessed for her unfailing devotion and was given the sacred Tulasi Form!
