Nothing much. Kareena Kapoor, here, talks about lying low and making time for the things that she loves doing

It's going to be eleven months since Kareena Kapoor last faced the camera. But the actress has no regrets about this self-imposed exile, because it is purely her decision. Her hiatus is proving to be an eye-opener as she is now concentrating on herself, her home front and losing weight.

It's been reported that inspite of having no work in hand you have been refusing films?

The last time I faced the camera it was for 'Yeh mera dil' in Don. It's going to be eleven months now. It is a bit shocking when the realisation that you have been out of work for so long strikes you. But it is a conscious decision. I have only two films in hand, Mani Ratnam's Lajjo which will start from August next year and Zoya Akhtar's film which is going to start from April end.

You have not even touched the 30 age limit as yet. Don't you think it is too early too get so selective?

But I have done 30 films in five years. That's something which no one has done so far. I have done some terrible films and there have been days when I have been on the sets of a film without knowing what my role was all about. Inspite of this, I have been honest to my role. But now I am recuperating.

From being the busiest star in town to doing one film a year, don't you get bored sitting at home?

I guess it's good to be at home once in a while. I started my career as an actress when I was very young. I think I have done a lot over the years. I used to work three shifts a day. Now I need to take a break. Shahid calls me every morning to find out my plan. But frankly speaking, I don't have a plan.

It is a well known fact that keeping to the Kapoor tradition you loved non vegetarian food especially lobsters and chicken. What made you turn into a vegetarian?

I think it's my spirituality. I am not a religious person and I don't keep fasts. But I feel good that I am not killing any animals these days. It's true that I used to love non-vegetarian food and everyone at home is a big foodie. In fact, my dad is still wondering why I am intent on loosing weight? They like the healthy and 'hatti katti' kind of people. These days when I have two chapatis and dal, dad looks at me and then asks my mom, 'Yeh kucch khaati kyon nahin?' In fact, he told my mom that I used to look better in Refugee and I should not lose so much weight. Dad is so cute...

It was alleged that you walked out of Harry Baweja's film because you wanted to work with Ramu who was making a film on the same subject with Shah Rukh. Now that Ramu has shelved the film, do you think it was a mistake to have walked out of Harry's film?

I have always mentioned that my not doing Harry's film had nothing to do with Ramu's film. My career was going through a metamorphosis and I realised that I wanted to do something completely different. I waited for them for two years. By then I had outgrown what I had signed two years ago. As far as the astronomical signing amount is concerned, I returned the cheque to them.

Do you feel cheated when a filmmaker of Ram Gopal Varma's stature announces a film with Shah Rukh and you first and then unceremoniously shelves the project?

Frankly speaking, I treat a film as a film and don't take it personally. I have survived 15 flops. I am still counted among the top three heroines. So, I don't think that one film would matter in my life. And trust me on the professional front I am very confident.

Everyone was taken aback when you signed Zoya's film with Hrithik Roshan, considering the speculation about a romantic alliance between the two of you. It was alleged that you both were not talking to each other after K3G. Have both of you patched up?

What rubbish! We never had any differences, so why talk about a patch up? After K3G I have not been offered a film opposite Hrithik. So where and when do I get a chance to talk to him. Also, I have signed Zoya's film because I wanted to work with her. The subject is new and it's going to be a fun film. It's a bonus that Hrithik and I make a look great as an on-screen couple.

Are you in touch with Suzzane Roshan?

Yes. Whenever we meet at a party or social gathering we do talk to each other. And please, don't make an issue out of this now!

It seems that after befriending Karan Johar he offered you a film?

No, I am not working in any of Karan's film. For the record you only fight with people you love and who matter to you. Our friendship is above all these trivial controversies.

Karan offered you Soham's film and now Soham has walked out of Karan's camp. So will you be doing his film?

Yes. I am doing Soham's film, but I don't know when he plans to start the project. My doing his film has nothing to do with my relationship with Karan.

Each time your sister is in town, there are rumours about her marriage being on the rocks? Is everything okay between Karisma and Sanjay?

Inshallah, they are very happy. But why are people so concerned about her personal life? How does it matter to them? I think it's their life and we must respect their privacy. I am happy that she is enjoying life. Samiara keeps Karisma very busy. Samiara is the biggest star in our household. (Laughs)

Kumar Sanu wanted to cast Karisma and you in a film, which he wanted Satish Kaushik to direct?

Oh really? No one offered us a film together. I would love to work with Karisma, provided I like the script and she is ready to take up her acting career again.
